Ugo Ukah may was likely the mystery player Sigi Schmid was referring to.
There are about three more weeks remaining until MLS roster freeze and the Seattle Sounders are apparently trying to bolster their lineup.
"We're always looking," Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid said at Friday's training, according to the Tacoma News-Tribune. "We were close on something. It didn't come off, but we're still looking."
Although Schmid did not go into details about who that player was, a report out of Nigeria suggested it was former Queens Park Rangers center Ugo Ukah but that the two sides had never been able to agree on a contract. The 30-year-old had most recently been playing in Poland and had been identified as one of a handful of players the Sounders brought in for trial earlier this summer. He has now signed with a Serbian club.
Adding a center back would probably be wise, as none of Chad Marshall's partners have exactly inspired confidence on a consistent basis. Zach Scott seems to have won the starting job for now, but Djimi Traore continues to get minutes and Jalil Anibaba has been used there as well.
If the Sounders are to make any additions, it would need to be by Sept. 15 when rosters freeze. With the transfer window now closed, the only players available to the Sounders would be unsigned internationals or players traded from within MLS.
