A few weeks ago in my thread "Sounds of the Sixties", or something like that, I missed out OUR song for Alec. Later copied by Luton & Fulham.
"To the top with Alec stock Do Dah, Do Dah, To the top with Alec Stock Do Dah, Do Dah Day"
If any manager deserved a song of his own then Alec was that man.
Thank you Sarah for posting. As I said before, Alec Stock - A GREAT MAN

Don't think that song would work with "Harry Redknapp" somehow.

I am delighted to see that Gramps is in favour. I wrote to QPR 1st (via Facebook) as advised by someone on here, proposing the naming of a stand and asking for advice, but heaven`t heard anything yet. To be honest, I know very little about how the club is run and the proper channels to work through for this kind of thing- do the Official Supporters Club meet with club officials sometimes? It would not be difficult to try and gather support from fans through the different forums and on matchdays, perhaps organising a petition, and if that was deemed a good idea, I would be happy to do my bit. If there is anyone who knows the workings of the club better then me who would like to lead this mini-campaign, that would be great. Perhaps we could have a supporters vote on naming one other stand after a player- Marsh, Bowles or... Bosingwa, perhaps.

I will be at a meeting with a club official week after next and I will talk to them about it then.
Supporters club does not exsist any more.

Great. I know a new stadium is a long way off, but we might as well try to get a commitment early. Better The Alec Stock Stand than The Sellotape Stand (in the Air Asia Arena).

I don't have a problem in renaming "The School End", The "Alec Stock Stand"

Unless the club is going to want the "The Tunes" Stand in the "Air Asia" Stadium (or other sponsors)
If the club is going to name Stands or areas after prominent QPR People, I would imagine that for most QPR fans - Alec Stock would be one of the most popular - Of those who actually know his name!
And for the club - The 1967 Link is something I'd imagine they' want to promote..

A stand out legend in over 100 years of history v Branding. I genuinely wonder who'll win!
Tony Fernandes and the board are not the same as Vincent Tan or Carson Yeung, at least on the face of it. However, their grasp of the 'soul' of a football club still falls short, culturally at any rate. TF might be a little more sensitive than some others and he may sincerely seek to understand - but he doesn't. He has no roots in this respect.
Out of all the names in QPR's varied past, Alec Stock commands a special position and I applaud Hadders for his idea. I truly hope it gains enough support to carry it through.

The idea of naming a stand after Alec at a possible new ground is good.
However, in the meantime I love the sugestion that we SAR is renamed.
While there at it the other three areas could also do with changing the names (perhaps not so important for Loftus Road).
I won't sugest names for these as we would all have our own preferences, but the one condicion is that they are real Rangers legends.

Personally I would wait for a new stadium. We all love Loftus Road for its memories, and I am as sentimental as anyone, but it is a pretty shabby place these days, and I don`t think it would be much of an honour to have one of these run-down stands named after you. I envisage a stylish, gleaming new stadium with a large, elegant sign outside, The Alec Stock Stand, next to a giant photo of the great man, like at the Emirates.

True but what if the new stadium doesn't happen? After all this is QPR, builder of hopes and dreams that don't materialize.

Flashback a couple years (and they got the date wrong) qprreport.proboards.com/thread/7927/flashback-alec-stock-leaves-arrivesPFA's Give Me Football - John Harding On This Day In History: November 4 Managing QPR was no cakewalk for Alex Stock Alec Stock leaves Queens Park Rangers after taking them from the Third to the First Division in just eight years. The ostensible reason given was his poor health - Alec had suffered all his life from asthma attacks - but he says he has never had a day off in all his time at the club. Of his dismissal, he later says: “I was treated as though I had pinched the petty cash.” Alec had many fallings out with QPR directors during his time at Loftus Road. His wife Marjorie once recalled: “At one game, 2-0 down at half time, Alec was abused by a club official as he walked back down the tunnel for the half time team talk. He thought ‘I don't sodding need this’, and walked out of the ground and went to the cinema. “When he got back after the end of the game he discovered the team had turned it around to win 3-2 - and the same official was now singing his praises.” Alec had the last laugh as his replacement, Tommy Docherty, lasted just 28 days. Alec died on 16th April 2001. www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/on-this-day-in-history-november-4Read more: qprreport.proboards.com/thread/7927/flashback-alec-stock-leaves-arrives#ixzz2jTAxoVdK

The John Clifford Family Area, anyone? Seriously though, let`s not let this one go. Though I am fairly neutral about re-naming parts of our current stadium, I would back any movement to name a stand after Alec Stock. And I think we should be ready to spring into action right away if and when meaningful plans for a new stadium are announced. It is a small request really, the sort of thing that`s easy to give and yet creates the impression that the owners understand the fans. If we need to show fan`s support for the idea, we should be aware that younger fans might not know about Alec Stock (at 45 I was born in the year following our League Cup win) so some element of education of younger supporters might be valuable- sharing that Guardian article, for example. I see no good reason why this should not happen, so let`s do it.
