Ince hits back at Wilkins
Chelsea's win at Blackburn ended in a war of words after Rovers boss Paul Ince confronted Ray Wilkins and accused the Blues assistant manager of talking "garbage".
Ince had been incensed by Wilkins' remarks in the build-up that Blackburn were aggressive and over-physical, and he made his feelings clear in a heated exchange at the final whistle...
Ince said: "Of course I was a physical character as a player but you don't play for the teams I did if you are just that. All the teams I have managed have played football.
"For him to come out with that garbage, that we are over-physical - well we weren't like that, we played some decent football.
"I just said to him next time you are going to say something make sure you get your facts right.
"I told him that in no uncertain terms."
Wilkins had said the match would be "one of aggression" because Blackburn played in the image of their manager.
Ince argued that Blackburn were the better team in the second half and were "a bit unlucky", but the fact they were not several goals down at the break was due solely to goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who could now be contemplating an England recall.
Ince added: "The performance of my 'keeper was fantastic, as far as I am concerned he's back to his best.
"There was an element of luck to both their goals and in the second half we really took the game to them and were by far the better team."
Wilkins himself said the Chelsea players had proved a point after the midweek defeat by Roma, and did well in testing conditions of driving rain.
He said: "A lot of people would have said we might slip up here especially when they saw the conditions so there was a lot of pride in this performance."
