GROUNDSMEN OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED
It's awards season at the moment and not just for the players as the winners of the Groundsman of the Year awards have been announced.
As ever it was a tough call for Dr Stephen Baker, Head of Spoil and Sports Surface Science, at the Sports Turf Research Institute who carried out in depth analysis of the three pitches short-listed in each division.
In the Championship Swansea City's Dan Duffy was celebrating after he was named Groundsman of the Year for his superb pitch at the Liberty Stadium.
Peter Ashworth of Preston North End and last year's winners Andrew Gray / Graeme Mills of Southampton were highly commended.
In League 1 the award went to Milton Keynes Dons' Groundsman Joe Aylett for the excellent playing surface at the stadium:MK.
Edward Mowe of Leicester City and Terry Roberts from Cheltenham came highly commended.
Grimsby Town's Mike Phillips was also celebrating after he picked up the League 2 award for the pitch at Blundell Park.
While AFC Bournemouth's Groundsman Ricky Rawlings and Steve Speed of Port Vale were highly commended for their efforts.
