Great news. Especially great that his future is now sorted and he can concentrate on his football unlike last season where all the transfer talk effected his game for the worse.
Fernandes has done magnificently in the transfer market so far and to sort out Adel so soon was a masterstroke.
Hughes has turned him into a more reliable and consistent player in a short space of time, given longer and with the added quality around him he's every opportunity to cement himself as a legend in that shirt.

You are inclined to take a slightly cooler line on it, Mac? Why, out of interest?
Is it that signing a player who has been at QPR for the past couple of years doesn't look like much of an advance? Well, on the face of it, it isn't, I suppose.
But would we want someone better? I assume that's why you suggested this isn't really BIG news. If there are better players than Taraabt, we haven't signed them. And he isn't new.
I haven't followed the bidding war for Taraabt in the close season, if there was one, although these things don't always find their way into the public domain.
Was there much competition for his signature? If so, were you concerned that we wouldn't get him, or that we would! Are we progressing to that 45,000 capacity by re-signing him?
He reminds me of Marsh and Bowles, not just in his skill and temperament. The sort of player a small Club signs to get a higher profile, without having to commit itself to the sort of large-scale long-term team building required to compete at a higher level.
We had Bowles at his peak in 1976, the year Paisley won his first title. For Paisley, and Liverpool, 1976 was only the beginning of a dramatic rebirth.
For us, it was the peak. When they were winning Leagues and European Cups, we were getting relegated. But we came back, not so good, and not so exciting - no Stan or Rodney, no Taraabt - but quite consistent for a time.
If you're underwhelmed, that's understandable. If they produce the performances they produced at home in the last 5 matches or so, they will be quite a different kettle of fish this season, although strictly speaking, they can't - they were all wins ;D. But they could do much better (which may not be saying all that much).
Perhaps being realistic about Taraabt is no bad thing, any more than being realistic about Hughes is. If it is possible to know what 'realistic' amounts to in advance.
Raising expectations and hardly ever coming near fulfilling them has always been a major failing. We are easily persuaded our time has come, and we become dissatisfied equally quickly.
The manager, particularly, yesterday's hero is soon fit only to be ridiculed as the latest has-been.
The higher the expectations, the harder it is to match them, although Hughes himself is being admirably vague - something about going in the 'right direction'.
Well, good idea.
In the Premiership, Clubs much bigger than QPR have only 2 options by and large. Once they've gone up a bit, they can only stand still, or to go into decline. Unless vast sums are available to taking things 'to the next level'. Without that funding, most of them haven't a clue how to go on improving. But they've sold their supporters on the idea, and it becomes a bit of a millstone around their necks.
Anyway, to specifics. Who WOULD you have considered a BIG signing. Why? And what would signing him - or them - have said about the Club, and the 'direction' it is going in?

As I said, I think signing Taarabt is truly wonderful. Giving him Number 10. Perfect. And fully agree how much he improved.
But I expected him to stay. I didn't see a lot of press re other clubs wanting him. and always the 40% payment to Spurs.
My point was the HYPE? "BIG NEWS" which I dispute... And the Hyping of giving him the #10 Shirt and the Bowles/Marsh...analogies. Allstuff could have done last year.
So it is NOT a problem in the slightest with the deal. That is great. It is the Hype.
And as I tweeted - which got a couple of Snide responses- If you REALLY want to link to QPR History: Also remember..,Thick HOOPS!

Yep, I know I am an old codger but we also had a great number 10 some 65 years ago in Cyril Hatton. Prolific goalscorer who did play in other positions although more at 10 than anything else.

He played his best football under Warnock...don't rewrite history I think he was referring to something that Dave McIntyre wrote earlier, essentially saying that Warnock's genius was not in man-managing Tarbs, but man-managing the rest of the squad, and in many ways this is correct. During the Championship-winning season Tarbs was basically allowed to get on with his game and the rest of the team had to make up for his lack of defending and throwing toys out of the pram, etc. This was never going to be acceptable behaviour and only when Hughes come in did we see Tarbs expand his skillset, eg. defending, etc. The wording was wrong, but Tarbs certainly didn't progress under Warnock.

Warnock built the team around Taarabt, Hughes is building Taarabt into the team.

Cheers Fraser , hadnt seen that video of Tarbs giving his reasons etc very nice. You have to say MH seems to a have a bigger draw attraction of players coming to work under him than what Neil could have attracted , i know the wages and plans help but Players do consider the Manager aswell i believe. Not forgetting what NW did for us but on Neils ability alone could he have got this level of Player in?

there are a lot of reasons why supporters think that mh will get a higher profile player in than say warnock or any other lesser 'well known' manager. his playing career, his time at man city, his demeanor, his coaching staff. but not his achievements. that still has to be proved. so for me its all about the package, as a club, how we are perceived by potential signings . at the moment tf has blazed this great journey QPR are on, new stadium, training ground, airplanes, f1, global recognition. and he has presented it to them. i dont think warnock had that, we had the talk and the marquee signings of barton and swp but no one else wanted them. warnock was just a few games away from what hughes has got. but he never got those points and hughes is our manager now. i could make those big signings with the backing of tf the way he is at the moment

Sporting Life Taarabt welcomes added pressure Last Updated: July 12 2012, 7:38 BST Adel Taarabt believes the increased competition at QPR will result in him and his team-mates raising their game next season. The west Londoners only narrowly escaped an immediate return to the npower Championship last term, with only a point separating them from relegated Bolton. QPR have been quick to improve their squad over the summer, with Park Ji-sung and Robert Green among the six signings made by Mark Hughes. Taarabt, who signed a new contract at Loftus Road on Wednesday, has welcomed the additions and believes they will help motivate the squad. "It is good because before we didn't have the big names and some people knew they were going to play all season," he said. "Now we know we are bringing in players and if you don't play good then maybe you're going to lose your place in the starting XI. "This is good, it puts on pressure to make you play well. "With the signings we have made, hopefully we will not be fighting relegation again. "We want to improve and we are going to do our best to get as good a place as we can." Taarabt admits such changes played a major part in him signing a new deal. The 23-year-old has long been linked with a move away from Loftus Road, but yesterday signed a three-year contract extension to keep him at the club until 2016. Asked if he could have envisaged playing alongside the likes of Park when he first joined the club, Taarabt said: "No, not at all because when I signed we were in the Championship. I was not thinking of the Premier League. "Even last year when we were there we were not thinking the club would have this ambition and sign players like Park Ji-sung, but the chairman has big ambitions. "We have a great manager and they want to improve so that is why I have taken the decision to sign a new long-term contract with Queens Park Rangers." As well as signing a new deal, Taarabt has been handed the number 10 jersey at QPR - worn previously by the likes of Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and Kevin Gallen. The move, which will see the vacated number seven shirt worn by new signing Park, has been welcomed by the Morocco international. "I am very proud to wear that shirt," he said. "I am very happy to have this number. "There is a little bit of pressure but it is good pressure." www.sportinglife.com/football/news/article/165/7890235/taarabt-welcomes-added-pressure

Bump 2 Years ago today “@ijtaylor81: Big news for #QPR fans at 4.30pm ... keep them peeled to @officialqpr. #QPR #TheFutureIsRs”Read more: qprreport.proboards.com/thread/32260/years-adel-taarabt-extends-gets#ixzz378mFIyVOQPR Official ADEL: 'THE #10 SHIRT IS SPECIAL' Posted on: Wed 11 Jul 2012 Adel Taarabt is relishing the opportunity to wear the number 10 shirt for QPR next season and readily acknowledges how 'special' the famous jersey is at Loftus Road. Taarabt, who has penned a new long-term deal, will follow in the footsteps of R's legends including Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and Kevin Gallen by pulling on the famous shirt and he told http://www.qpr.co.uk: "This means a lot to me personally. "I was happy with the '7' but I know '10' is very important at QPR. Special players like Bowles and Marsh have worn this. "The Club told me that the fans want me to have this shirt. So if this makes the fans happy too, it is even better for me." Taarabt, who has scored 29 goals in all competitions during his time at Loftus Road, added: "Before I came to the Club I didn't really know too much about the number 10 shirt and what it meant, but I have heard lots about it, and about what fantastic QPR players wore it. So to have it is very, very special for me. "If the fans believe I have the ability to become as good as these players before me, that is massive. This puts a little bit of pressure on me but I am ready for the challenge." The now vacated number seven shirt will be worn by Ji-Sung Park next season. *A complete list of squad numbers for 2012/13 season will be announced soon. www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2837358,00.html QPR talisman Adel Taarabt has signed a new long-term contract at Loftus Road. The magical Moroccan - who will wear the number 10 shirt next season - has put pen to paper on a three-year extension, tying him to the Club until the summer of 2016. The 23 year-old - who signed permanently from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2010 following two successful loan spells at Loftus Road - has made 123 appearances in all competitions for the Club, scoring 29 goals. Article continues Advertisement Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, the Moroccan international attacker said: "I am very pleased to have signed this new contract. "When I first arrived here I honestly thought it would just be for a short period but I love this Club and the people here have really helped me and I am very happy to be here. "I had a tough start to the season last year, but I worked hard and I have really enjoyed it under Mark Hughes. "The Club is getting bigger and bigger, and with a new training ground and talk of a new stadium it is very exciting. "In the time I have been here QPR's ambition has changed. Last year the aim was to stay in the Premier League. We achieved this and now we want to progress and improve. Nobody is speaking about what we can achieve but we really want to move up the Premier League table. " QPR boss Mark Hughes, who Taarabt credits with his return to form in the second half of last season, expressed his delight at the deal, commenting: "It is important that we keep good, young players at QPR because that is going to drive what we want to do and Adel is a big part of that. "There is no question he can produce moments of skill that not many players can. "And you need those game-changing players who can do something unexpected because that can be the difference between winning and losing in tight games. "Adel had a period here where it was a little bit difficult for him and the Club, but he came through that. When I came to the Club, in my eyes it was a clean slate for him and he had a real opportunity to be part of what we are doing." He added: "I have seen a real effort from Adel and the quality of his work last year was good, both in an attacking sense and defensively. He has embraced what we are trying to do. "He is undoubtedly a talented boy but he understands he has got other aspects of his game which he needs to work on and he has shown a real effort to do that. "Defending is not a natural part of Adel's game but he understands that there is an obligation for any player who plays for me to recognise it's not all about playing when we have the ball in our possession. "Adel and many of the players here understand that the Club is looking to go in a forward direction and they want to be a part of it." www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2837404,00.html Sporting Life Taarabt welcomes added pressure Last Updated: July 12 2012, 7:38 BST Adel Taarabt believes the increased competition at QPR will result in him and his team-mates raising their game next season.
