FERNANDES HAILS 'WATERSHED' MOMENT
Posted on: Fri 29 Jun 2012
QPR Chairman Tony Fernandes believes the arrival of Samba Diakite to Loftus Road is a 'watershed' moment for the Club.
The box-to-box midfielder put pen to paper on a four-year deal earlier this week and Fernandes - who has overseen a number of top signings since his arrival in W12 last summer - told http://www.qpr.co.uk: "Signing Samba is a watershed moment for us.
"He's a very good player with great potential.
"He's got a great future ahead of him, so we're very happy to get him on board permanently."
He added: "Samba was raw when he arrived, but he grew from strength to strength.
"He scored the winner against Arsenal and produced some great performances - he was a very key player for us last season and I'm sure he will be next term as well."
Echoing the views of R's boss Mark Hughes, Fernandes also revealed why the Club are aiming to do the majority of their business early in this transfer window.
"We're very busy at the moment in terms of transfers," he said.
"We've got time on our side this season, unlike last summer when we came into the Club quite late in the summer window.
"We're trying to get our business done as early as possible to give Mark and his player's time to settle.
"Things are going to plan - and it's a case of so far, so good."

Queens Park Rangers have completed the permanent signing of the Mali midfielder Samba Diakité from the French side Nancy for a reported fee of £3.5million.
Diakité has agreed a four-year deal with the Loftus Road club having initially joined on loan last season.
The 23-year-old made nine appearances for Rangers last season, receiving a red card on his debut against Fulham and scoring the winning goal against Arsenal.
The QPR manager Mark Hughes told the club's website: "Samba was a real find for us in January, so we're delighted he's joined us permanently. He's a very accomplished footballer and he's made to measure for the Premier League.
"He's got good pace, strength and ability on the ball and he's going to be a great asset for us going forward. There's still so much more to come from him.
"He's only been exposed to the Premier League for a handful of games, so I'm sure he's raring to go and get back into the action again."
Diakité was equally pleased to seal the move. "It's a dream come true to sign this contract," he said. "I loved my time here on loan and I couldn't be happier to join QPR on a permanent deal.
"It's a fantastic club to play for and the owners have great plans for the future – I am just delighted to be part of it. This is a really exciting move for me."

Diakite, 23, had been allowed by Mali coach Alain Giresse to fly from Gabon, where he is playing in the Africa Cup of Nations, to London to sign his contract.
"It will become a permanent transfer if the London club stay in the Premier League," Nancy said in a statement.
QPR, who are two points above the Premier League relegation zone, will have to wait to see when Diakite can join them as it will depend on how far Mali get in the Africa Cup of Nations which runs until February 12.
Mali are third in their four-team group with three points from two games, level on points with second-placed Guinea with one Group D game to play.
