"£20,000-a-week wages to be paid in full as well as a guaranteed £5m transfer". Wages ok but guaranteed £5m! We would be bonkers to pay that, it's hardly pathetic Report.

OK, first assuming what you cited is actually what Sunderland were actually going for, and not just 'pie in the sky..." it's not "pathetic" if we stop talking about all the things we're going to be doing; and actually go out and do them. They could have bought forward - what we all knew was needed - in the summer. Throw in Ainsworth as manager... Almost pathetic!

Surely, it is too early to know. Right now they are presumably securing the right manager. It would be crazy to spend big money on a player before the manager's position was locked down.
