600+ Games for Spurs... Flashback a decade BBC - Sunday, 25 February, 2001, Perryman linked with QPR job Perryman has coached in Japan Former Tottenham captain Steve Perryman has emerged as a late candidate for the QPR manager's job. Perryman, who has enjoyed notable success as a manager in Japan, could pip favourite Ian Holloway to succeed Gerry Francis at the struggling First Division club. The Rangers board will definitely appoint Francis' successor this week, but are set to speak to Perryman before making a final decision. Francis confirmed a new appointment would be made imminently. "I'm assured there is a new manager coming in this week and he's going to need a lot of help from the players and the supporters." Pole position Perryman guided Brentford to the FA Cup quarter-finals in 1989 and the play-offs the following year, before suddenly resigning days before the start of the 1990-91 season. He was assistant to Ossie Ardiles at Spurs between 1993 and 1994 and had one match as Spurs caretaker manager in November 1994 before Francis took over. He recently returned to England and agreed to take up an informal coaching role at Exeter. They have since climbed away from the Third Division relegation zone after an excellent upturn in form. Holloway is said to have been strongly recommended by Francis, although the outgoing boss insists he has had no influence on the appointment of a new manager. Francis has been told that Saturday's 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Wimbledon will be his last in charge. Assistant boss Iain Dowie has also applied for the job, as have ex-Rangers players Terry Fenwick and Clive Allen. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/q/qpr/1189254.stm

I met him in 1975 when Spuds came down-under for a couple of game. As CPR says, very nice guy and yes, a magnificant midfielder for Spuds. All the best for a speedy recovery Steve.

BBC THURSDAY 10 May 2012 Last updated at 17:02 63 Share Facebook Twitter print Steve Perryman 'very ill' says Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale By Brent Pilnick BBC Sport at St James Park Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says the club's director of football and former Tottenham Hotspur player Steve Perryman is still "very ill" after undergoing heart surgery. Perryman was taken ill at Exeter's last game of the season on Saturday and has been in intensive care ever since. "He is very ill and will be for a while to come, we are hoping that he will recover," Tisdale told BBC Sport. "We don't know the full extent of this episode and how it'll affect him." Tisdale added: "It's going to be a long process whatever happens." Continue reading the main story “The biggest issue in all this is him, and his family, and him making a full recovery as opposed to the job he does at Exeter City†Paul Tisdale Exeter City manager Perryman was taken ill during the second half of Exeter's game with Sheffield United, but Tisdale did not know about the problem until after the game had ended. The former Spurs midfielder's role as director of football at Exeter is particularly important as Tisdale tries to secure players for his squad for next season. The club were relegated to League Two last month after three years in League One. "He's got a great deal of worth and a lot of value, particularly now," Tisdale said. "He's been a cornerstone of the coaching department, the advice and experience he brings and the tenacity and energy he brings for doing things in a proper way and making this place function. "He's going to be sorely missed for that work he does, [but] that's not to say we've given up hope that he won't be back here helping us again. "But the reality is that when you have someone so valuable, clearly when they're not here you recognise that value. "The biggest issue in all this is him, and his family, and him making a full recovery as opposed to the job he does at Exeter City." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18027114EXETER OFFICIAL SITE THURSDAY Steve Perryman Update: Thursday Lunchtime Posted on: Thu 10 May 2012 Steve had a comfortable night and remains in a serious but stable condition in intensive care. I too really hope that Steve pulls through- I have a special interest as I actually played with Steve in the same Primary schools District team and then against him for our secondary schools! -at that time he played on the wing but gradually became a very hard working midfielder. He was very determined so I'm hoping that character will help him in his recovery!
