As our much-beloved former Chairman once said: "...I have been called all sorts of things - Mafiaman, waiterman and pizzaman. I was called a W*nker recently by some supporters. I want to know, when the club had to borrow 10 million pounds to stay open, when they were out with a bucket raising money for players, whether they needed a W*nker like me. Because I am saving the club, they didn't. If every W*nker is like me, vive les W*nkers" qprreport.blogspot.com/2007/03/chairman-paladini-interviewedspeaks.html

"QPR fans are just getting to know me...I started an airline with 2 planes, I've been through SARS, bird flu, tsunamis, earthquakes, terrorism, airports closed for 7 days. Relegation isn't going to scare me. Its a long-term project and Rome wasn't built in a day and along the way there's going to be hiccups but when you look back over 15-20 years I think we'll be proud of what we achieve so NO, I'M NOT GOING TO RUN AWAY.
We have amazing fans and week in week out, through disappointment, through joy, they have been an amazing group of people. I got a bit of a hard time on Neil, but we were open, transparent, we were able to answer questions, and I'll never change that view, both positive and negative. I'm not just going to talk about the good things. But I have to say that QPR players, manager and the owners of the club are blessed with amazing fans. Its easy to be a fan when you win everything, its a lot harder and a lot more value to me when things are not going well. Thats when you see the true value of support and QPR are blessed with amazing supporters who have been there through thick and thin and I'll do my best to reward their faith in this wonderful club."

Tony is a good guy. But good guy'ism is not what we need right now. Loyal fans, intelligent manager, helluvaguy owner, you're awesome!, no, YOU're awesome!... Maybe the environment is too soft, too comfortable.
Forget the heart, make them show their balls, Tony.

I'm assuming that a successful businessman ain't as nice and such a Softie/ "good guy" as he comes across... So I'm assuming that even if he stays (hope he does) he ain't going to be taken for a fool.

Or maybe football is a different kind of 'business'... I don't believe he's yelling at players behind the scenes.
If I'm a player - one of the many - who occasionally fails to give his all on the pitch, and I see my modern employer tweeting it's all good... it just encourages me to blend in and give another 'professional' autopilot performance.
If I was Fernandes, I'd be expecting a lot more from my employees and choose a better way to transmit that. Maybe I'm wrong. The table isn't, though...

I wouldn't expect him to say anything else than that on Twitter. It's not as if he's going to come out and say "oh yeah we were crap, we're going down".

I wouldn't expect him to say anything else than that on Twitter. It's not as if he's going to come out and say "oh yeah we were crap, we're going down". Yet he's not entitled to say we were quite good when we weren't. We know that, the players know that (Joey: "we need to dig in" etc etc). This 'controversy' doesn't make fans happy, it makes them (me!) question whether the owner really knows what he's talking about/doing. He has an option and a right to say: a) we were shIt, or b) we weren't that good, must do better, or c) not to say anything. Yet every time he chooses A, perhaps thinking the players will reward his kindness with performances. But they don't.

INDEPENDENT Fernandes 'will not run' from QPR DARREN WITCOOP WEDNESDAY 29 FEBRUARY 2012 Tony Fernandes, the owner of Queen's Park Rangers, said yesterday that he was not "scared" by relegation from the Premier League. Only goal difference is keeping QPR out of the bottom three and there have been doubts whether the Malaysian, who took over the club at the start of the season, will stay if relegation ensues. Fernandes said: "The QPR fans are just getting to know me. So no, I'm not going to run away. I started an airline with two planes, been through SARS, bird flu, a Tsunami, an earthquake, terrorism and airports closed for seven days. Relegation isn't going to scare me. It's a long-term project and Rome wasn't built in a day. Along the way there will be hiccups. But when you look back in 15 and 20 years' time, we will be proud of what we achieved." QPR face Everton on Saturday after three defeats in a row. Fernandes said: "Mark Hughes has brought new energy to the club but we haven't had the best of luck. But we have a good squad. We have a tough few weeks but if we come through that I'm really looking forward to the future. "The main aim is to stay in the Premier League, but other plans have to go on. The training ground is looking good and the stadium is something I have been working on. Amazingly, it's easier buying 100 planes than building a stadium in the UK www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/fernandes-will-not-run-from-qpr-7462506.html

SKY Fernandes won't run from QPR Owner looking 15 or 20 years into the future Tony Fernandes: Committed to a long-term project at Queens Park Rangers Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has insisted he is not frightened by the prospect of relegation and is committed to a long-term project at Loftus Road. Fernandes took over the club last summer but his financial backing has failed to keep QPR clear of the scrap for Premier League survival. They are only above the bottom three on goal difference and there have been doubts about whether Fernandes would stay if the immediate future lies in the Championship. The Malaysian has now moved to reassure supporters, insisting he has the strength of character to come through tough times. "The QPR fans are just getting to know me. So no, I'm not going to run away," he told The Independent. "I started an airline with two planes, been through SARS, bird flu, a tsunami, an earthquake, terrorism and airports closed for seven days. Along the way there will be hiccups. But when you look back in 15 and 20 years' time, we will be proud of what we achieved." Fernandes has been encouraged by the way new manager Mark Hughes has gone about his business since replacing Neil Warnock at the helm, and is hopeful they can get back on track against Everton this weekend. "Mark Hughes has brought new energy to the club but we haven't had the best of luck," he said. "But we have a good squad. Obviously we'll see what happens if/when do we go down. But personally, I have to say that he (and Bhatia) are the bright shining stars that give one of any semblance of hope for the future...It's certainly not the players on the field (most of them) - or even off the field. And while Hughes I'm happy to have (still!) I don't feel this deep emotional bond like I felt re Warnock, Holloway, Venables - and yes Jim Smith
Certainly after the Bernie (I don't give a shit; hope they don't go up) Ecclestone and Flavio ("It's my club not yours...I'll make the decisions ...You're Fired) Briatore. This is just a breath of fresh air.
Yes mistakes may have been made. And yes I may disagree with decisions. But the sense of alienation. Of people coming in and stealing OUR team has gone..
Now whether this excessive hope or naiveté, time will tell

What is the motivation of business? To make money right? So TF took his business from 2 to 100 planes employed people and rewarded them with bonuses, pay rises and promotion as they worked harder and helped ensure success.
So, he now signs already wealthy football players with huge egos and gives them contracts guaranteeing them more wealth. So, what is their extra motivation to succeed? Perhaps it is pride in their profession, in their own performance, loyalty to their employers and the thousands who chant their names and give them cult status?
I wonder, if he has spent time talking to these over paid under performing prima donas and asked them what it takes for them to work as one, as a team that actually gives a damn about winning football games, what does it take for them to stop the infighting the bickering the point scoring (not in football terms though), what does it take for them to stop the bullsh!t interviews and talking a good game and actually giving 100% effort as a unit for 90 odd minutes on a matchday?
Surely until that time, whatever he tells the people in the stands or the pubs will equate to not much more than the stuff the players and manager come out with after each dire performance and defeat.

Ahh but it isn't Tony that signs them is it?? It was Warnock and Hughes who identify the targets then Beard who does the contract negotiations and you can bet Tony and Amit only allow or disallow the signing. Can't blame Tony on the players we have signed, that's down to the manager (with the exception of that tw*t Barton)

Where does the buck stop Rory?
Who's vision is it the manager and CEO are following?
It was the owner who talked of signing Parker, Beckham and others and it was he who sanction the signing of Barton, not the manager, causing an instant problem. Perhaps if he had let the manager manage, choose the players he wanted and kept out of the team matters we wouldn't be in the mess we are in.
The buck stops with the man at the top buddy.

Yes I get that and Barton was his mistake but it is still down to the manager. If Hughes had come in and said I don't need any new players Tony wouldn't have forced him to buy.

The west London club is perilously placed in the Premier League table, with just goal difference keeping them out of the drop zone. But the Loftus Road chairman believes the long-term project he’s building at the club means they would be able to survive demotion to the second tier. “ We’ll have some setbacks and if we go down, we go down ” Tony Fernandes “We’ve got to be real, it’s tough in the Premier League,” the 47-year-old told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “I came in at the start of the season with wide open eyes thinking we could go down. The first game I watched was a 4-0 loss to Bolton, so I’m a realist. “If we go down we’ll have to deal with it. It’s a long-term project though, we are building a great team with the backroom staff and the squad we’ve got. We’re developing the academy and we’re making plans for a new stadium. “We’ll have some setbacks and if we go down, we go down. But I’m resolute, I love what we’re doing and once you put a good structure in the results will come.” www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/1595/64/exclusive-qpr-chief-admits-he-planning-relegation

That's what we all won't to know #RTID” Not sure how many times I can pledge. Hahaha. But I'm pledging. Aint going anywhere as long as the fans want me. RT @c14r4n: @tonyfernandes can you, right now, pledge that you'll be sticking with us for many seasons to come ? It really would settle our nerves tony! “@tonyfernandes: I will. Everybody else has written us off but I haven’t. I still feel we’ve got a chance." Harry Redknapp HARRY REDKNAPP insists there is still ‘all to play for’ in QPR’s fight for survival after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United. Rangers began well at Loftus Road against the league leaders but Rafael’s stunning strike midway through the first-half broke the R’s resistance. Redknapp’s men battled bravely for a leveller before Ryan Giggs sealed maximum points for the visitors in the closing stages. “Today was always going to be a tough game,” the R’s boss told www.qpr.co.uk. “I thought we were bang in it and there wasn’t a lot going on. “Suddenly the right-back hits a worldy; he’ll never probably score a goal like that for as long as he plays football. He’s hit one out of the clouds that’s gone right in the top corner.” Saturday also saw the return of R's frontman Loic Remy from injury, replacing strike partner Bobby Zamora on the hour-mark. Despite defeat leaving Rangers seven points adrift of safety, Redknapp remains confident the pair can still hold the key to safety. “I still feel we’ll get out of it,” he said. “It [defeat] leaves us bottom today but we won’t be bottom at the end of the season. “With Bobby Zamora and [Loic] Remy coming back from injury I see two forwards that can start scoring some goals between now and the end of the season for us. “That’s been our problem, we don’t score enough goals. “Between them I can see them doing some damage to teams.” Rangers face a trip to Southampton next in the first of five matches against challengers in the bottom half. Redknapp knows the odds are firmly stacked against his side but the R’s boss hasn’t given up faith of beating the drop. He added: “Every game is important now. With 11 games to go there’s still all to play for. “They’re going to be tough games but I think there’s enough there [in the squad] to give us a chance. “Everybody else has written us off but I haven’t. I still feel we’ve got a chance.” www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/230213-harry-man-utd-673824.aspxRead more: qprreport.proboards.com/thread/35221/qpr-man-reports-comments-fernandes#ixzz2uPcWqiW5Read more: qprreport.proboards.com/thread/35221/qpr-man-reports-comments-fernandes#ixzz2uPcOUqS9qprreport.proboards.com/thread/35221/qpr-man-reports-comments-fernandes
