saphilip what a superb post.
I remember some time ago reading comments about how awful some premiership fans were only interested in the short term with no interest about the whole game and only concerned with someone who continued to write cheques without question to fund acquisitions on an open ended basis. QPR was supposed to be different, a 'proper' football club etc etc, well it did not take long for some to become just what was previously ridiculed and loathed.
Maybe Warnock was not the right man for the job but I for one thought he deserved a season. If then we stayed up but the chairman still thought a change was needed to get to 'the next level' (whatever that means) then he could have departed with his feelings less bruised able to look back on a fantastic story.
If we had been relegated he would (I am sure) have picked himself up and taken the club back up again, wiser and with a better squad as much of the contracted mistakes of the old regime would have been long gone and there would be greater financial flexibility. This would have no doubt coincided with the better training facilities and probably some concrete plans about a new stadium. Again that may have provided a suitable point for a parting of the ways. The price for loyalty from us fans? Best case we stayed up, worst case we would have had an exciting premiership season with the sadness of relegation but with an extremely good chance of returning in much better shape as a club.
Of course I may be wrong but I personally would have had a great deal more to feel proud about supporting my club for doing things the right way. Of course we are where we are and just like everyone else I am excited to see what the new management team do, what new players arrrrive and so on, the difference now is that if we still get relegated I will feel entirely different (and more concerned) than if we had stuck with a guy who performed nothing short of a miracle given the mad house he entered at QPR.
Having read his comments (I accept that there is a need to tug at the heart strings to make it a good read) I agree entirely that the very least we owe him is respect and focus on the very good things he did.

The sad thing is. We can criticise the board for not showing enough respect to Warnock. However we all know that a couple more defeats would have probably had some fans booing him. Already saw on message boards some already wanting him out. I have already gone on on another post about the despicable attitudes in football today. The ability to develop and improve players and teams is replaced by the ability to buy players and teams. Warnock is old school, now school is out.

I think the most impatient ones are actually the owners. (And to be fair, they've got a lot of their money at stake)
Personally I could have with some equanimity (with disappointment of course), accepted bouncing between Premiership and Championship as we gradually improved...Used the Parachute payments, etc, etc....
My pride in QPR comes from overcoming adversity as the underdog - as " little QPR" ...in developing players and buying lower leagues...and watching them flourish. Not so much in being a big spending/buy already-there players.

was we not one of the biggest spenders in the chmpionship over the last two seasons under warnock?

Oh there's no doubt that Briatore and Paladini wasted a lot of money on players!

If I can add my tuppence worth:
Did NW fulfil his obligation to QPR? - I'd say absolutely, and over and above what was originally expected, did we really think we'd go from relegation candidates when he took over to Champions the next season.......
Did QPR fulfil their obligation to NW? - NO, the mission statement for this season was to stay up and I will always think that given an entire transfer window for NW to get 'his' players in, we would have stayed up, the mantra last season was In Warnock We Trust............
But that's football these days, and we can all thank Murdoch for his contribution in taking the beautiful game and turning it into a cut throat business

Neil, in the pain of dismissal, can take heart from one fact
He Made A Difference
He'll be forever in the Pantheon of QPR managers who Made A Difference
Up there with Magnall, Stock, Jago, Sexton, Venables and Holloway
We shouldn't be dissecting and analysing his words - the man is hurting, he has every right to sound off.
He'll always be a welcome sight at Loftus Road

Warnock is now not the rangers manager due to nw and no one else. He doesn't seem to have grasped that. Seen too many people of late down at rangers who think/act bigger than the club or simply use it. It has been the clubs downfall for years. Maybe tony has realized this.

I think thats a little harsh! I don't think NW thought he was bigger than QPR but he does often come across (In interviews) that he's a bit big headed but I think thats just how he is! But results are what keep you in football leagues & what keep managers there jobs............& they ain't been good so far!!!

Yea maybe. Just getting a bit old hearing him bleating away. Not enough on the training ground when he was actually there and his attitude, like all the stuff at liverpool away also cost him his job.

Like charging the players to park at the training ground or taking a 6 figure cut on a transfer on a player who has never played for us. Bernie wasn't happy Warnock is a self promotion and publicist which is different from big headed. Financially he's done ok from qpr just his pride hurt, or he's been found out. You decide

I don't know anything about either points... Who got the money from parking...and who wanted Warnock to buy the player for which he got the cut! (Shades of Sousa's Portugese?)
But what is an undeniable fact is that for fifteen years, rangers ran through manager after manager after manager and through player after player after player player...tens of millions of pounds spent (wasted) on players, loanees, wages, paid-off coaches and who knows what. (Oh yes...Big fines to the FA and to lawyers). And none of that is attributable to Warnock.
And then Warnock came on along. From a club heading back to the Third Division...We became a club that was saved. And then twelve months later, we became a club that were Champions of the Division. And then a Premiership club.
Not TOO shabby...

Agreed Mac 100% just a few more sides to his character that didnt help his cause with or without the results. It's Tony's money now and I'm sure he wants to know where every penny goes. It's what the club needs In my view.

What's sad too is he didn't get to say goodbye to tarbs...they had a bit of a love -hate relationship but really I think warnock saw him like a son...remember him going out to morocco etc. As already said nw will go down as a qpr legend

Exactly Mac - reading some commenst here has convinced me that I supported QPR ina parallel universe - and in the other one they were doing well, fighting for trophies, the title and regular Euro spots.
The QPR that I supported was anything but that and the fact remains that in my universe NW has left QPR in a much better shape and position than when he took over. The question is will QPR remain there?
As I pointed out in another thread, many clubs have used NW to better themselves only to discover too late that once he left them (sometimes on his own accord, sometimes because he was pushed out) they tend to end up in a much worse position than where they were when he went. I hope to God we don't suffer the same result.

"I do envy Mark Hughes. I have never taken over a club that just needs the icing putting on the cake. I've always had to scrap for the ingredients to make the cake in the first place. Mark has taken over a fabulous club with the cake already made, he just has to put the icing on. With the fixtures coming up it is a great time to take over." OH PLEASE! like i said above, for all those moaning about todays preformance, neil warnock is proud of "his cake" but i think it needs more than icing.
