Love to know what he'd say about Briatore ;D The Shields Gazette IAIN Dowie today revealed the part of Alan Shearer he most admires – his "cojones". Dowie will assist Shearer at Newcastle United for the rest of the season along with trained barrister Paul Ferris, formerly a physio at United, who will oversee the club's medical department. And Dowie – who has had spells in charge at QPR, Coventry, Charlton, Crystal Palace and Oldham – believes Shearer has what it takes to make a success of his managerial career, having known him since their playing days at Southampton. Asked about Shearer's decision to take charge of relegation-threatened United for the remaining eight games, Dowie said: "First and foremost it was mark of Alan – he's got cojones! "He's always been very single-minded, and he'll be a top-class manager. "There's always been something very single-minded about him. He doesn't tread on eggshells. We'll have frank discussions, and Alan will pick the team. "I've come in to try and shape the team Alan wants. It's important that Alan's clear and single-minded in his team selection." Referring to his well-publicised dispute with Palace owner Simon Jordan, Dowie joked: "We've also got Paul Ferris on board. "He's a bright lad – he's a trained barrister. I could have done with him a few years ago!" www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/The-one-thing-Alan39s-got.5137460.jp
