The reason I am contacting you is that exactly 100 yrs ago my Grandfather Arthur Smith played for QPR for the season 1911/12. It was clearly a successful season for them as they won the league, then the Charity shield. They also won the Ealing cup. I have enclosed some , unfortunately not very good quality photographs, of some medals I have that my grandfather won with QPR that season. They include the league medal, the charity shield medal ( which has Titanic on it). There is also a medal for the Ealing cup and a medal for an inter-association match between a combined London team against a Birmingham Team. I do not have much information on him and would be grateful if there was some way of obtaining some more information of the history of QPR at this time. He was called "nipper" smith and played on the wing. He lived in The Midlands in Dudley and used to travel to London to play. I think he also played for Birmingham City. The fact that QPR have recently been promoted to the premier league and that this successful season was 100 yrs ago I think adds to the interest. Lets hope that QPR have a successful season. Regards Dr R A Smith Arthur "Nipper" Smith's Medals can be seen on the History Board. Southern League Champions 1911-12 season. There is statistical info on Arthur Smith in Gordon Macey's Complete Record Bman, but I assume you have all that and have communicated it to Dr. Smith.

Remarkable stuff indeed thankyou Bushman and Dr R A Smith for posting . Travelling from Dudley to London must have long journeys back in 1910 with the road network etc .

I received this yesterday from Arthur "Nipper" Smith's grandson after I had given him some more info on Nippers playing career. Thanks for this. It is interesting and helpful. It comes at a difficult time as his son Antony Smith who was also good at football and played for Aston Villa died last week and his funeral is on this Friday. (I asked him what the initial R stood for his grandfathers middle name) The R was for Richard (He was born in 1887) I think he lived to the age of 84 he died of a stroke He became a headmaster of a primary school in Tipton West Midlands and retired to Bournemouth. I understand during the first world war he was at Ypres and survived. He was a bomb disposal expert so he did well to come back.
I of course gratefully thanked him for the info on Nipper.

This is fantastic Bushman. How did this all come about? Is DR A Smith a QPR die hard? Surely the club should be doing something to put things like this and other bits you have together!

Thanks Calders. Lots of people visit the QPR Report Board and contact us for more info on family members that have played for the Rs.

I know it is a long time since anybody posted on this thread but I have just found it because I am researching all British Olympians and thought you may be interested to know that Arthur Smith was one of the 15 non-playing reserves for the Great Britain squad at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics.

Query from Granddaughter - Any one have anything?.
"Dear Mike
I do hope you can help me, please. I saw on the QPR Report Messageboard a thread about Arthur ‘Nipper’ Smith’s medals, highlighted in a posting from his grandson, Dr R A Smith. My grandad, Joseph Windmill, won the FA Cup with Aston Villa in 1905 and family history has it that his medal was passed on to Nipper who was a cousin or a brother-in-law. I’m just wondering therefore if Dr Smith also has in his possession my grandfather’s medal. Is there any way I can get in contact with him, or would you be able to contact him on my behalf?
I’d be really grateful for any help you can give and I look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks and all the best
Alison
