BBC - QPR v NewcastleBarclays Premier League * Venue: Loftus Road * Date: Monday, 12 September * Kick-off: 2000 BST * Coverage: Watch live on Sky Sports 1; listen on BBC Radio 5 live and local radio; text commentary on BBC Sport website and mobiles TEAM NEWS Joey Barton is set to make his Queens Park Rangers debut against his former club, while new signings Luke Young and Shaun Wright-Phillips may also feature. Clint Hill is back after completing a three-match ban, while DJ Campbell returns to the squad following a virus. Davide Santon could make his first Newcastle appearance, although manager Alan Pardew has hinted that the Italian full-back may begin on the bench. Goalkeeper Steve Harper is back in training after a knee injury. MATCH PREVIEW Queens Park Rangers brought in half a dozen players in the final week of the transfer window, but on Monday attention will inevitably focus on Joey Barton, who is set to make his Rangers debut against the club that surprisingly allowed him to leave on a free this summer. Continue reading the main story Joey [Barton] is a controlled animal now on the football pitch... He hasn't got anything to prove to me or the staff here Newcastle manager Alan Pardew Barton was one of Newcastle's outstanding players last season but was damned with faint praise by chief executive Derek Llambias, who pointedly thanked Barton for his "on-field contributions". The midfielder had repeatedly criticised Magpies owner Mike Ashley for his lack of ambition, particularly his reluctance to reinvest the £35m raised by the sale of Andy Carroll. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew admits he was disappointed at the failure to land a striker before the window closed, but it's not all doom and gloom - the club have made their best start to a top-flight campaign since 1995-96. That season was also the last time Newcastle won away at Rangers, with former Hoops favourite Les Ferdinand on target for the visitors in a 3-2 victory on 14 October 1995. The Toon Army would dearly love a centre-forward of Ferdinand's class to take up the vacant number nine shirt at St James' Park. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head * Newcastle are unbeaten in their last four games against Queens Park Rangers, winning three of those matches. * There has never been a league meeting between these sides which has finished goalless. QPR * Adel Taarabt has attempted 14 shots without scoring, more than any other Premier League player prior to the latest round of matches. * Rangers have lost four of their last five games in all competitions. * They have lost their last three games at Loftus Road. Newcastle * The Magpies are unbeaten in their last six league games, winning three of those matches. * Newcastle have made their best start to a Premier League season since 1995-96, when they finished second. * Last season, Newcastle won just one of the 13 Premier League matches in which they were level at half-time. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14799558.stm

GUARDIAN Squad sheets: Queens Park Rangers v Newcastle United Tony Fernandes's first home match as the QPR owner should prove a humdinger. Under the Loftus Road lights, and in front of the live TV cameras, Joey Barton makes his bow for Neil Warnock's side against his former club, Newcastle United. While his acrimonious departure from St James' Park provides a spicy sideshow, both managers will want to get on with accruing points. Alan Pardew has overcome being unable to reinvest most of the £35m yielded from Andy Carroll's sale on a replacement striker to take an impressive seven points from three games, while Warnock's tally is three. Each would be content with a draw. QPR Official Site
PARDEW WARY OF NEW-LOOK R'SPosted on: Sat 10 Sep 2011 Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has revealed he is wary of the threat posed by QPR ahead of Monday's Barclays Premier League clash at Loftus Road. Speaking ahead of the Sky live fixture in W12, Pardew said: "I know the new Chairman (Tony Fernandes) from my West Ham days and he's been eager to get into a Football Club. He will try to capitalise on that. "QPR have signed some good players, they have an experienced Manager, and you would expect them to pick up and do well. "It makes the Premier League that much tougher when the teams who come up invest and spend - it always makes it more difficult for the established Clubs." Pardew added: "They have a number of options available to them, and I noticed one or two of the players who have been playing regularly didn't even make the squad. There have been some considerable changes there. "We've had a great start and are looking to build on that. It's been one of the best starts we've had at this Club for a long while. "Two wins and a draw, a victory in the cup, and we are looking forward to QPR." www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2445522,00.html

Lawro's Prediction for Newcastle v QPR (Sunday)New QPR manager Mark Hughes has got a lot of work to do but this is a great time for him to take over. They haven't won a league game for such a long time that there is no great pressure on him. Going to Newcastle will not be an easy start but we should remember the Magpies have lost Demba Ba to the Africa Cup of Nations and I think a point is a possibility for Rangers. Hughes brings with him a good coaching staff in Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki. They are clever boys, who have been watching a lot of Premier League games since leaving Fulham last year. They will have been looking at players and thinking about who they might go for if they get a job with a top-flight side. That's why I think the QPR team you see on Sunday will be quite different to the one we will see in a couple of weeks, because of who they are going to bring in and the way they are going to start playing. Rangers' next four games after this one are Wigan, Aston Villa, Wolves and Blackburn. Those are the games where you pick your points up and I think they will get a decent return. Prediction: Newcastle United 1-1 Queens Park RangersHere are all 210 of Lawro's Premier League predictions for the 2011-12 season, together with how the League Table would look like if he was correct... www.myfootballfacts.com/Mark_Lawrensons_Predictions_2011-12.html

www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2012/01/14/simpson-hughes-will-want-to-make-his-mark-61634-30120414/Simpson: Hughes will want to make his mark by Stuart Rayner, The JournalJan 14 2012 inShare FOR the second time this season, Danny Simpson believes Newcastle United have caught Queens Park Rangers at just the wrong moment. When the sides met at Loftus Road in September, the newly-promoted Rs were awash with early-season optimism. After a late cash injection from Tony Fernandes, five players – Anton Ferdinand, Armand Traoré, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jason Puncheon and Joey Barton – were making debuts. Tomorrow there will be almost as many new faces, but all in the dugout, as Mark Hughes and his backroom army take control of the west London club. Simpson knows that alone makes them a more dangerous prospect as they launch their season for a third time. “QPR always seem to have a lift when the play against us,” said the right-back. “Last time we played them they had just been taken over and had a lot of players making their debuts. “Everyone will be flying at the moment. “When a new manager comes in you are always trying to impress him. It is a clean slate for everyone. “It is always exciting when a new manager is appointed. “There will be different training methods and a different way of running the club. There are always different ideas and new ideas. “It is exciting and you just want to take it on board as quickly as you can. “The old manager might not have fancied one or two players, but when the new manager comes in you sometimes find he likes you. “QPR’s season will have started again this week.” Neil Warnock was desperate for January so he could start spending Fernandes’ loot. Instead he got a P45. Hughes, though, will be no more shy with the chequebook and the likes of Alex and Roque Santa Cruz have already been linked to him. Simpson added: “QPR are a club who always seem to have a lot of money. “A lot of big names have been bandied around and I am sure everyone is thinking about which players are going to come in during the transfer window. “They will be looking forward to people coming in who can improve them as a team, but as a player you just have to concentrate on what you do.” www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2012/01/14/simpson-hughes-will-want-to-make-his-mark-61634-30120414/#ixzz1jQ8qXzRw

Sunday Sun Mark Hughes arrival forces Alan Pardew rethink Jan 15 2012 by Mark Douglas, Sunday Sun ALAN PARDEW admits the appointment of Mark Hughes has forced him to rethink his plans to ambush QPR today. The Toon chief reckons the sacking of Neil Warnock and subsequent appointment of Hughes has made the clash a more difficult one to call for him and his coaching staff. While he is sure the Rs will be set up defensively to try and stifle his seventh-placed side, he knows the pressure is off Hughes for his first game in charge. Pardew said: “This is a ‘give’ for Mark – he is not expecting to win and that makes it more dangerous for us. “Therefore he can probably attack it a little bit if he felt that way inclined. “So I am on my guard tactically for what he is going to do. “Mark can set his teams up to be very, very solid and disciplined. Probably that is the way he will go. “Therefore we will have to unlock the door – but we have the players to do that. It is going to be an interesting game.” The United boss reckons today’s contest could be key to their European ambitions. He added: “I think as far as we are concerned, Sunday is a key game because we have put ourselves into a position where we can look up. “It is a game where people might expect us to win but we still have to win it.” www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-united/2012/01/15/mark-hughes-arrival-forces-alan-pardew-rethink-79310-30123618/
