BLAKEY: "In fact, it was Coventry who scored first. Ian Wallace headed against the bar and put the rebound past Derek Richardson, and that was after nine minutes.
"Ten minutes later, Clive Allan scored his first for Rangers, slipping though the defence to put the ball wide of Les Sealey. One all, and that was the score at halftime.
"One minute into the second half, and Rangers began their slaughter of the Goventry defence, martin Busby running the full length of the pitch before presenting young Allah with his second. Two-one for Rangers.
"After fifty-two minutes, Rangers attacked once more. The cross from the left came from Walsh and Shanks was there to put the ball away. Three-one for Rangers.
"Goddard had missed an open goal for Rangers, but Coventry were caught once again. And once more it was Clive Allan, scoring a hattrick in his first full game, and his name wasn't even in the programme.
"Five minutes later, Rangers were attacking again, and this time they were awarded a penalty as a defender punched away the ball.
"The penalty was taken by Mark Walsh. Five-one for Rangers, and the people who had come to mourn at what they thought would be a funeral will have to wait a little while longer."
