Anyone know whee they are now?
QPR Official Site - June 2005 - Scholars to Depart
Eight second year Centre of Excellence Scholars are to leave the Club at the end of the season.
The youngsters have been informed that the Club do not intend to take up the third year option on their scholarships and their details will now be circulated to all Clubs.
The players are John Fletcher, Luke Townsend, Daniel Murphy, Lee Barnett, Andrew Judge, Scott Mulholland, Lee Craig and Sonny Farr.
Centre of Excellence Director Joe Gallen is sad to see the players go but believes that a tough decision had to be taken.
"I am disappointed when any players are released," he said. "They have represented the Club well and their effort has been outstanding.
"But we have to ask whether young players are likely to make an impact in the first team and, if we don't believe that they will, we have to do what is best for the Club."
All the players are now available to go out on trial to other Clubs and one is already about to confirm a third year placement with a leading League One outfit.
The players will also complete a third year of funded education, regardless of their next step in the game.
"It is important that we take good care of these young men and ensure that they continue along the right path," Gallen admitted.
"Although they will not be continuing a football career with Queens Park Rangers, we certainly do not want them to just flounder and we wish them nothing but good fortune in whatever they choose to do."
But although this particular crop of players have not made the grade at Loftus Road, Gallen is optimistic about the future of youth development at the Club.
"We have a new structure at QPR and standards are being raised throughout.
"We are at a higher level this season and we want to be even higher. And with the arrival of John O'Brien on the recruitment side we intend to be more selective and look to develop players that can play for this Club in the Premiership."
Gallen also confirmed that Ryan Johnson will be offered a third year, following the signing of Pat Kanyuka on a professional deal.
Oher youth prospects such as Scott Donnelly and Shabazz Baidoo are currently First Year Scholars and will begin their second year next season.
