Forest looking to take Dex on loan with a view to a £2.2 million purchase according to the People today.
Read it this morning then saw it was on the blog but no thread.
Would you take that for Blackstock?
I know I would but on the proviso it is properly reinvested in a player, not for additional chandeliers or the like.

Hate to say it, as I like Dexter, but that is a very good offer and I would take it or certainly let Dex talk to them. I'm sure Sousa can find a striker he wants for that money. (I'm not saying that he doesn't want Dex, just a player he wants and not one bought by another person, whoever that might be.)

I like Dex a lot but if Sousa wanted to use the money on another player that's fine by me.
Would we need to buy another so called 'homegrown' player because of the new rules?

I spent a lot of last season defending Dex against accusation of being lazy etc but he is the wrong striker for Sousa's formation. In the end Dex doesn't play well with his back to goal (which is why SDC gets the nod) or running onto through ball played into the space behind the defence (like Vine & Agyemang did last year), he needs lots of crosses which he can convert or knock downs he can poke in. In Sousa's system the wide men in the 451 are really forwards not wingers and run into the box while the fullbacks should overlap on the outside. Dex is now the proverbial square peg in a round hole and if he is allowed to go it will suggest either (a) PS has asserted control and will stay or (b) DB has just decided to move on and will not sign a contract or (c) Briatore doesn't fancy him and doesn't want to offer him a new contract.
What ever he chooses I wish him well as he undoubtedly kept us up 2 years ago and he has been resolute in his application if somewhat one dimensional in his play.

And Forest acknowledge interest (although if relegated...?) Nottingham Evening Post - March 25, 2009 Davies: Blackstock is a Forest targetNOTTINGHAM Forest are targeting a £2m move for QPR striker Dexter Blackstock. But the powerful front-man is unlikely to arrive at the City Ground before the summer.Reds boss Billy Davies believes Blackstock can add some physical presence to his attacking arsenal at the City Ground. But he may have to pursue other targets to bolster their fight against relegation, with the 22-year-old unwilling to commit himself to a move until Forest's fate is confirmed. QPR's 12-goal striker is stalling on a new contract at Loftus Road and the London club are willing to do business – at a price. , while they might be willing to allow Blackstock to move to the City Ground on loan if a fee can be agreed for a permanent deal in the future, the player himself is understood to be concerned about the prospect of Forest being relegated. www.thisisnottinghamforest.co.uk/news/Davies-Blackstock-Forest-target/article-840498-detail/article.htmlAnd manager Davies admits the former Oxford, Southampton, Plymouth and Derby player might have to be a target for the summer. "We are looking to bring in one or two before Thursday, but we are also putting one or two things in place for the summer as well," said Davies. "We are looking at several targets and making several enquiries and Dexter Blackstock is among one of those names we are asking about. "He is one of several players we are looking at. "We know we have a rebuilding job to do, we know we have to plan for the future. "At this moment we are looking at possible targets and doing all we can to look at possible targets now. "We do not want to get to the summer and then be scrambling for possible targets. We need to get ahead of the game now." Davies admits that Forest are having to prepare a Plan A for a future in the Championship and a Plan B for if they are relegated. "That is the situation, we have to prepare for both eventualities (League One or the Championship) but there is no doubt which one I am preparing for more," he said. "I see the determination and spirit in that dressing room and it convinces me that we should be preparing for life in the Championship." Davies accepts that Forest's fight against relegation will be a negative influence as they try to sign players. "I am sure if you were the player, then you would like to wait to see what happens. You can understand that," he said. "But we will continue to identify possible targets, we will continue to make enquiries. But it will depend on where we are. "We just have to go and get the job done. Once we are through this season, we will not be too far away." www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/

If everything in that article were true, my first reactions are:-
Should Blackstock be "stalling" on a new contract I would have thought being wanted and offered a contract would be attractive.
If he is really concerned about what division they are in next season, take the bull by the horns, go on loan, score the goals that keeps them up.
Simples
Conversely, he is happy where he is although unhappy with a lack of starts. He would like a new contract but one is either not on offer or possibly, not as good as his current one.
As someone who's playing days are well behind them, there is no substitute for playing the game. I wouldn't want to be warming a bench all the time that's for sure. ;D

Hi. Similiar story in the BBC: news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/n/nottm_forest/7960639.stmGood analyses above. I think it would be a negative move for him, although he would undoubtedly get game time. Notts Forest are going to be scrapping until the end of the season. I agree that he's best when facing the keeper. He's an out and out striker and Sousa seems to prefer the single striker who is inclined to also play deeper (I'm possibly wrong about this..). Just saying, why are Notts Forest talking about this so openly while the season is still on? Surely it's a distraction for our squad. I know there's no ulterior motive on behalf of Forest as we're not playing them, but it's not really cool Davies making statements like this when there's still a fair bit of the season left, I think.

It's cos the (loan) transfer deadline is tomorrow. He also has some comments on the Nott F website saying how he's being trying to bring in people after Harewood fell through. (Doesn't mention Blackstock by name). And looking to do now, get ready for end of season. (Also trying to save his job!)

I think we should take it. Flav needs money and he will decide what he does with it.

I'm sure Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Morinho, Rafael Benitez, Arsene Wenger and Roman Calderon would all agree with you! ;D ;D Couldn't help but wonder if Leigertwoods' loss off form was connected to Mick McCarthy's 'attempt' to buy him, unsettling him somewhat, perhaps?

Good points Mark and DreamR, good ponts indeed.
Is there any truth in this:-
Dex signed a new contract and FB promptly tore it up.
I read that somewhere

I think we should take it. Flav needs money and he will decide what he does with it. A new exhaust pipe for the renault? To get a bit more down force going round the bends. I do vaguely also remember something about Dex signing a new contract and it being overturned by Briatore. It could be a Charles Sale story though.

Would imagine if we get that deal fixed so Nott F have to pay, would be great to get that deal done today. In the summer, with so many players out there, might be worth less...

And cryptic ITK on the WATRB about a player going out on loan... Well I think many are expecting Blackstock or Camp to do exactly that. And the deadline is today.

Sorry, I meant wages for the loan. If it was permanent, I doubt it would be anywhere near that amount but that's just my guess. No ITK cobblers from me.

And what Nott Forest say
Nottingham Forest Official Site - Billy Gets His Man Nottingham Forest have ended their search for a striker by swooping for Queens Park Rangers forward Dexter Blackstock. The 22 year old has been on Forest's radar for some weeks but hopes of clinching a loan deal for him looked to be fading. But only hours before today's closing of the loan window Forest man Billy Davies got his man. Blackstock has signed for the remainder of the season and Rangers have no recall on the player in that time. Forest have also agreed an undisclosed loan fee with the Londoners. Blackstock signed for Rangers from Southampton in a £2.75m deal in August 2006. The former England under-21 striker has scored 32 goals in 94 starts during his time at Loftus Road. Blackstock started his career with Oxford, where he was born, but joined Southampton before making his debut.

And Nott F Managerial Comment
Nottingham Forest Official Site - Billy Delighted
- Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies could not hide his delight at securing the services of Queens Park Rangers striker Dexter Blackstock. - The 22 year old completed his loan move until the end of the season today and Davis enthused: "I'm sure he will prove to be a great acquisition. - "It's no secret that we have been looking for a certain type of striker and Dexter certainly fits that bill. - "I've been watching him with great interest for several seasons and he's got all the attributes of a top striker. - "Most importantly he scores goals but he's also got presence and good movement in his play. - "In addition to getting goals himself I'm sure he will provide a lot of openings for others." - Blackstock will train with his new Forest team mates for the first time on Monday.

Actually I'll give the Blackstock signing to Paladini (But he has to take responsibility for the others from that era including Armel Tchakounte)
