While Tuesdays win was against a good team who perhaps didn't play well, today's win was against a good side who played well and yet we won. We had an atrocious referee and yet we won, we lost Connolly to injury and had to play Leigertwood at CB and yet we won, we played the much maligned 451 and yet we won, we surrendered a lead late on but yet we won. The win was not lucky and we again missed several chance to burry City before they equalised but yet we won.
Points to note: Lopez goal was a stunning top lefthand corner strike, not ferocious but unstoppably placed The return of Routledge and Cook both looking good. Another good performance by Taarabt though perhaps too elaborate at times, took his goal very well. Good performances by both our fullbacks (though I thought Orr looked a class apart at rb for City). Excellent atmosphere at HQ and I even got two excellent stewards today who managed the exit to T block very well (polite & sensible chaps).
Elated by the result and entertained by the football, happy days

Great to hear our 'less popular' players had good games and also to read your match reports again mate. I didn't know about our injury/subs at the time and I have to say it makes the result all the more impressive. Also nice to hear the atmosphere was good.

Getting money back from clairvoyance trainer. But Z called it without any training. He is my new guru.

All in all a good performance. Cerny has improved throughout the season into a more complete keeper, catching the ball instead of punching it for example and again had a good game, looking solid throughout. The defense coped with the aerial threat all game, Connolly and Gorkss rarely looked troubled, Ramage again solid at the back, but still poor distribution. Delaney, gets beat just a little to often for my liking, but his run and cross for Taraabt's goal was fantastic. Midfield - Alberti was poor and rightly taken off at half time, Lopez scored a quality free kick and was tougher on the pitch all game. He has quickly comes to terms with the championship. Really hope he stays. Hogie picked up from Tues. night with another good performance. Taraabt tried all his tricks, though they rarely came off today and at times I wished he just put his foot on the ball and played a simple pass, rather than lose posession so easily. Took his goal well, I hope Helguson got a good view of it. Attack - DiCarmine, he's got a nice touch at times, but seriously why are we giving a Fiorentina player, who definately won't be here next season, playing time when we've got Balanta, German and Rose crying out for experience? As long as the playoffs are a mathematical possibilty?
Overall the future's bright. The future is Sousa's. And Blue and White.

Cheers for that Mark. Did you rate Cook and Routledge performances when they came on?

Cook - showed flashes of his old self. Still seems to be coming back from his injury and is not 100% at the moment. Going forward he looked dangerous with the ball at his feet and played some nice passes with Hogie and Taraabt, linking up well but is still well short of the standard he was at 2006/2007. Hopefully he will be back to his best next season.
Routledge - also not 100% fit. Not everything is coming off for him at the moment, but when he regains full fitness he will be terrorising the oppositions' full backs once again. Kept the pressure on their full back when we didn't have the ball and like Cook gave 100% effort.
With both these two fully fit and after a pre season with Sousa, if we buy a decent striker (or two, please) we will score goals next season. Our defense is solid, and if it remains intact with the addition of some cover we will be there or thereabouts next season. This time next year we will be fighting for a top four place, I'm sure. Lovely jubbly!

Good stuff, cheers Mark.
You are spot on re strikers. I find it hard to understand why we still haven't brought in a goalscorer. I have lost count of the points dropped due to shocking finishing.

CnP only because Johnson accepts Bristol were second best and also his very astute point about momentum i.e. BC feel deflated and out of it and we feel like we've now got a chance yet we're 2 points behind them. Oh and it interesting that managers who win at HQ never complain about the pitch, do they. www.thisisbristol.co.uk/wdp/sport/football/Johnson-offers-excuses-Bristol-City-s-poor-showing/article-788865-detail/article.htmlBristol City boss Gary Johnson refused to make excuses after watching his Championship play-off hopefuls come up short at QPR. Beaten 2-1 at Loftus Road, the Robins struggled to come to terms with a poor pitch and had reason to take issue with referee Grant Hegley, who twice turned down apparently valid claims for a penalty. Although disappointed by the circumstances, Johnson was in no mood to offer excuses. And he afterwards served up a brutally honest assessment of his team's performance, admitting: "We were second best on the day." He declared: "We didn't do ourselves justice and, for whatever reason, that wasn't my game we were playing out there. "I didn't recognise anything we were doing. We lumped the ball too much and hoped to get on the end of things, and that isn't the way we play. "We had enough of the ball but didn't give ourselves a chance. We didn't create enough opportunities and the quality wasn't there, especially in the final third." City looked set to claim a valuable point when Michael McIndoe cancelled out Jordi Lopez's opener with 13 minutes to play. But the visitors were level for just four minutes and Moroccan Adel Taarabt stole in to net a late winner which puts a huge dent in City's play-off prospects. Johnson acknowledged: "At 1-1 we were back in the game and looking to go on and win it. But I don't think we played well enough to deserve anything. The work-rate was there, but too much of what we did was misdirected." Johnson refused to use the poor state of the Loftus Road pitch as an excuse. He said: "Neither side created a lot and it wasn't a great game. The ball was bobbling around and it didn't make for an attractive spectacle. "We all like to see football being played, but it was exactly the same for both teams and QPR deserved their three points. On the day, we were second best."In terms of quality, we didn't do enough in the final third to win the game." Dele Adebola and Nicky Maynard felt they should have been awarded first-half penalties and Johnson argued: "They both said they were fouled and I believe them. "It's disappointing when decisions like that go against you, but that isn't why we lost the game." City slipped to ninth in the table and are now five points adrift of the play-off places with six games to play following the two-week break for international matches. Johnson faces a difficult challenge to lift his players ahead of what now becomes a must-win fixture at home to play-off rivals Preston North End on Saturday, April 4. He admitted: "You can only rely on other teams to do you a favour when you're winning yourselves and we have to do something about that. It won't matter what the others do if we don't win our next game. "It changes every week. If you get a result, it changes the mentality of players and fans and you feel you have a chance again. " QPR will feel they have an outside chance of making the play-offs after beating us and they will be enthusiastic about that. They are still a few points behind us, but we're all feeling down after this result."Named in the first team squad for the first time since suffering a muscle tear in his groin at Plymouth in late January, Marvin Elliott made his long-awaited comeback as a substitute, replacing Lee Johnson three minutes from time. The midfielder is expected to feature in tomorrow's totesport.com Combination fixture against Forest Green Rovers at City's Failand training headquarters (2pm).
