So it would appear ! QPR Official Site Match Report
YOUNG R'S PUSH INTER ALL THE WAY Steve Brown was full of praise for his youngsters after witnessing them lose narrowly this afternoon (Monday) to their Inter Milan counterparts in the Coppa Carnevale tournament, the most prestigious Under-20's Club competition in World football. Facing the reigning holders in the opening fixture was always going to be a tough test for Brown's side, and their task was made even more daunting when the hosts grabbed the opener inside the first minute. QPR refused to buckle, however, and quickly regained their composure with some slick, passing football. Their determination and spirit were rewarded before the half-time interval when some good approach play involving Romone Rose led to Antonio German (pictured) being presented with a fantastic opportunity to level matters - and he didn't waste the chance, coolly slotting home. In the second half, the R's continued to play attractive, attacking football and really tested their illustrious hosts. With little more than 15 minutes remaining, however, QPR were dealt a cruel blow when they conceded what proved to be the winner from a set-piece. Following the game, Brown focused on the positives of a fantastic display. "This is a highly creditable result," he told www.qpr.co.uk. "Paulo Sousa came to the match, and he said to me afterwards that many people will have come here today expecting to see Inter win 4-0 or 5-0. But they have left talking about QPR, which is great." Brown added: "We really challenged the holders, and took the game to them. That makes me immensely proud. "In my opinion, a draw would have been a fair result. We definitely deserved something from it, but football can be a cruel game. "Now I am really looking forward to our next game against Australian side A.P.I.A. Leichhardt Tigers on Wednesday, as are all the lads." Brown opted for a three-pronged attack, with German, Angelo Balanta and Rose leading the line - and he was pleased with what he saw from the trio. "I know all about the three of them, having worked closely with them over the last couple of years," he added. "They've got plenty of goals in them, I've got no doubts about that. "I must also give a special mention to Matteo Alberti, who played much of the match so soon after Saturday's fixture at Nottingham Forest. "He's full of confidence after his two goals for the First Team, and he gave a good account of himself this afternoon." QPR: Nicki Lee-Bulmer, Elliot Cox, Aaron Waters, Joe Oastler, Ed Harris, Lee Brown, Terry Smith, Matteo Alberti (Josh Parker, 75), Antonio German, Angelo Balanta, Romone Rose.

Without being a downer - who me? - based solely on how it's been: Year after year after year - I have to wonder if most of this batch is goingto be any more successful than previous youth team players. Hope so, because home growns are the best. But sceptical...

1. What the hell is with the red uniforms?!! We do hoops not red solid outfits. What is that all about?
2. Nice goal by German. Nice build up, nice running at the defense, nicely taken shot for the score. Well done to the lad!

THREE-SY DOES IT FOR YOUNG R'S Steve Brown's U-20 side beat P.I.A. Leichhardt Tigers U-20s 3-0 this afternoon in the Coppa Carnevale tournament, thanks to goals from Romone Rose, Josh Parker and Antonio German. Following their narrow loss to Inter Milan on Wednesday, the R's were in confident mood and had their Australian opponents on the back foot from the early stages. They made their domination count mid-way through the first half when Matteo Alberti's precision pass released Rose. With only the keeper to beat, the QPR striker made no mistake, giving his side the lead their performance deserved. In the second half, QPR continued to pose problems on the artificial service and their advantage was doubled with 15 minutes remaining. This time it was Parker who raced clear of the Tigers' backline, finishing in style. Five minutes later, the match was well-and-truly over as a contest when German made it two goals in as many games for himself in this competition. Closing down what appeared to be a lost cause, German's presence led to confusion between the Aussie 'keeper and his centre-back, and the R's front man nipped in to tap the ball into an unguarded net. Following the final whistle, Brown told http://www.qpr.co.uk: "I'm absolutely delighted with this result. "The recovery time is very short between the games here, so the players are being pushed very hard, but they're responding brilliantly to the demands we're putting on them. "We want to stay in this competition for as long as possible, and I think this performance underlined our desire to do well. "No disrespect to the league they play in domestically, but this level of competition is far better for my players' development. "They're having to cope with different tactics, different referees, it's a great challenge for them. "It is fantastic that the Club entered us into this prestigious tournament, and I'm pleased with the way my players are handling the whole occasion. "On and off the pitch, they have made me proud. Their conduct and professionalism has been spot-on, and now we've given ourselves a real chance of making the quarter-finals. "A win on Friday against Palermo should be enough - it's up to us to complete the job." QPR: Nicki Lee-Bulmer, Aaron Waters, Joe Oastler, Ed Harris, Lee Brown, Danny Maguire (Danny Davenport, 82), Terry Smith (Andy Perrin, 46), Matteo Alberti, Romone Rose (Cyrus Vanterpool, 70), Josh Parker, Antonio German. www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1553886,00.html
