Weird if Accurate re Newcastle contract Evening Standard
QPR to tie up Wayne Routledge dealIan Gibb 20 Apr 2011 Queens Park Rangers are set to sign Wayne Routledge permanently after the on-loan winger had his contract mutually cancelled by Newcastle.
[/u] The 26-year-old joined Rangers on a temporary deal in January and has become an integral part of Neil Warnock's table-topping side with four Championship goals. QPR have moved quickly to keep him at Loftus Road, with Routledge now expected to sign a four-year deal with the club who can secure their place in the top-flight with a win over Cardiff on Saturday. The former England Under-21 international had two years to run on his contract at St James' Park but was surplus to requirements under Alan Pardew and agreed a pay-off in exchange for terminating his deal.Meanwhile, Warnock is happy that Cardiff will have to go for it against his side when they meet in the Welsh capital. Rangers endured a frustrating night on Monday as Derby ground out a 0‑0 draw at Loftus Road. But with Cardiff second in the table, just a point ahead of Norwich and three ahead of Reading, the hosts will have to attack, leaving possible gaps for QPR. Boss Warnock said: "It's good we're playing a team who will want to have a go at us. If you look at their forward line you know there's no chance they'll put 10 men behind the ball looking for a point." www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23943169-qpr-to-tie-up-wayne-routledge-deal.do

Great news as far as i am concerned. 4 years might seem long but at 26, we will get his best years.

Just strikes me as unlikely he'd be a free. He may not have been a super success at Newcastle. But I don't think he became a valueless flop either

Pleased to have him on board again when he signs , gives us options next year. Should never have gone to Newcastle in the first place ! 4 yrs a bit suprised about that but he is good enough for that deal. Maybe we can try and get Camp back from Forest as back up for Paddy if Cerny doesnt stay.

Certainly looks like it will be free if his contract has been terminated. Alan Pardew's not the sort of manager to know what to do with a Routledge type player. Watching Newcastle the other day they looked very static, like foosball/bar football players. No interchange or movement at all. Routledge thrives in our system. And a great piece of business, thanks Toon!

If he signs the dotted line it will be a big boost for the squad and a signal of intent. On a free would be a fabtastic piece of business.

Wayne Routledge in line for permanent switch to QPRQueens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock still expects to complete the permanent signing of Wayne Routledge from Newcastle. Routledge's agent recently suggested the player was set to return to Tyneside when his loan spell finishes at the end of the current campaign. But Warnock said: "I really don't see any problems, to be honest.
"It's up to us now to dot the Is and cross the Ts. I think he's set his mind on coming here now, and we want him."Routledge, 26, was loaned to Rangers in January - only a year after leaving Loftus Road to join Newcastle. His return was with a view to a permanent move should Warnock's side reach the Premier League, and the Championship leaders are now one win away from sealing promotion. Warnock has been linked with a host of other players ahead of his club's expected return to the top flight. "There are players being bandied around that I've never even thought about. Let's get there [the Premier League] first," he addednews.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/q/qpr/9463567.stm

Not sure that you could read too much into Newcastle's performance though, they clearly set up shop for a draw, and hoped for a goal of the long ball to their lone striker... and did everything in their power NOT to loose!

Great news as far as i am concerned. 4 years might seem long but at 26, we will get his best years. But imo he's a transition player who will only play until we get someone better

Very pleased about this piece of news if it is true, lets hope he is more successful with us in the Premier League than he was with Newcastle.

Or maybe he is not free...(The "Free" struck me as strange)United will demand a fee for Wayne Apr 24 2011 by Mark Douglas, Sunday Sun WAYNE Routledge is heading out of St James’ Park this summer – but not on a free. The winger was hoping to resurrect his Newcastle career after a stunning loan spell at QPR. But Alan Pardew has deemed him surplus to requirements and he will be leaving for the Championship leaders in the close season. Newcastle WILL be asking for a fee, though, despite reports in London that they have terminated the player’s contract to allow him to depart on a free. United are furious at those claims and insiders say there is no way they will let a star with two years left on his deal leave for nothing. A fee of around £1million is expected to be agreed as soon as QPR clinch their promotion – allowing Toon to recruit a couple of wide men from the Continent. United have watched Rangers highly-regarded playmaker Adel Taarabt but their interest in him will not be dictated by what happens to Routledge... www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2011/04/24/united-will-demand-a-fee-for-wayne-79310-28572782/
