CHELTENHAM Town boss Mark Yates was impressed by the pair of trialists who took part in the reserve team's 4-0 win at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, writes Jon Palmer.
Queens Park Rangers left-back Lee Brown and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Olumide Durojaiye both completed 90 minutes as the Robins' second string reached the final of the Gloucestershire Senior Cup with a comfortable win at the Memorial Stadium.
Brown, 20, has been on loan at Blue Square Bet Premier club Hayes and Yeading United this season but was given permission to play for Cheltenham and looked composed and assured.
He has made one substitute appearance for his parent club, going on in a 1-0 win at Barnsley at the end of last season after a loan stint with Salisbury City.
Yates has only one specialist left-back at his disposal in Danny Andrew and he may be looking to add another option in that position for next season.
"The trial is through an agent friend of mine," the Robins boss said.
"Lee is not sure what's happening at QPR at the end of this season and I have seen him play for their reserves before. This is an opportunity for him and he acquitted himself very well."
Combative midfielder Durojaiye was also praised by Yates for his performance as two goals each from Ethan Moore and Theo Lewis earned Cheltenham an impressive victory.
"He is a scholar at Tottenham and I thought he was excellent," Yates said.
"He is a big strong boy, who is only 18 and he did really well.
"The game was everything we needed it to be and some young players did themselves the world of good."
Hammersmith-born Durojaiye, who can also play at the back, joined Spurs as a seven-year-old and has progressed through the ranks to complete his scholarship.
He has also had a recent trial at Colchester United, who are managed by ex-Robins boss John Ward.
Cheltenham's head of youth John Brough hopes some of the youngsters who performed so well against Rovers are given a chance in the first team in the remaining weeks of the campaign.
"The boys performed really well," Brough said.
"Rovers had ten pros playing and they should have given us a better game than they did on paper.
"We had a gameplan to stay narrow as a midfield four and we had people who could finish in Ethan and Theo, who were the difference on the night. I'd like to think some of them will have a chance of playing."
