DAVIS COMPLETES 90 MINUTES FOR RESERVESPosted on: Tue 15 Mar 2011
Northampton Town's reserves were beaten 2-1 by a Queen's Park Rangers reserve team in a behind closed doors friendly in West London on Tuesday afternoon.
The game gave new Town boss Gary Johnson the chance to run the rule over some of the players who have not had much first team football in recent weeks, and the Cobblers side included Steve Collis, Paul Rodgers, Ben Tozer, Francis Laurent, Kevin Thornton, Nathaniel Wedderburn, Michael Built and Alex Konstantinou as well as a number of trialists. Liam Davis also featured, and he confirmed his return to fitness by completing the 90 minutes without any problems.
"It was a good game for me to get a decent look at the lads," said Johnson.
"I had a chance to assess the fitness of the squad, and get a better look at some of the lads who have not had too much football in the last few weeks. It was good for me to see them in a match situation.
"I got the opportunity to get a good look at Liam Davis and I know a lot more about some of the other lads as well now.
"Both sides played their part in a competitive game of good quality and I learnt a lot more about the squad and the players we have available to call on. It was very worthwhile."
The Cobblers goal came from youth teamer Malachi Farquharson.
