Victor Chandler: Palace can shock the leaders4:06pm Wednesday 9th March 2011 Crystal Palace had a cracking win against Cardiff City at Selhurst Park on Tuesday and they continue to impress me. They picked themselves up from the defeat against Burnley and they are grinding out results. Sheffield United winning didn’t help but they are now 1-3 to stay up and 9-4 to down, and I wouldn’t be backing the latter. They do have a tricky trip to the league leaders QPR on Saturday, but a sell-out crowd will ensure plenty of support for Palace and I wouldn’t put anyone off backing them at 13-2. QPR lost on Tuesday and they could be vulnerable. Palace have two home games after this, against Derby and Barnsley, so Dougie Freedman must be thinking that if he can get at least a point at Loftus Road, they could start to pull away from their relegation rivals in the next fortnight. www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/sport/8899243.Victor_Chandler__Palace_can_shock_the_leaders/

I was standing in the front in the corner of the Ellersie Road/Loftus Road. Taken by this guy (Bertie Levy, RIP) who headed the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade group at Loftus Road (and who used to be rather critical of Jim Gregory!) And yes it was a freebie!

Yup - But I was just a kid.
Although funny thing is I did make note of this "freeebie" in my Vital QPR Interview a couple of years ago. And as I recall that was "used against me" by a certain individual poster.

Palace boss Freedman excited to pit himself against Warnock 11th March 2011By Graham Moody » Dougie Freedman has started the mind games with counterpart and former manager Neil Warnock ahead of their meeting tomorrow. The Crystal Palace manager will compete against the man who ended his Eagles playing career when he released the Scot in 2008 having made it clear he was not in his plans. The pair meet again tomorrow as Palace, with just one win on the road all season, travel to Warnock's Queens Park Rangers, who have been defeated only once on their own patch and are seven points clear at the top of the league. All that has led Freedman to proclaim Rangers as favourites for the game but that his squad will battle them all the way. "It is a game that QPR on paper should win, on form should win and pretty much will win," he said. "But my lads will not go there and roll over, they will fight and Neil Warnock's team are going to have to fight to beat us. "They probably will but so what, my lads will turn up and they won't lie down. "It will be good a game and I am really looking forward to this. "I have got an idea that hopefully will come off and it is a good challenge for my players." www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/sport/8898985.Freedman_excited_to_pit_himself_against_Warnock/

Defender set for QPR return By Jacob MurtaghBOSS Neil Warnock is forced to restore Matthew Connolly to the starting XI for tomorrow's clash at Loftus Road. The former Arsenal defender was dropped from the squad for Tuesday night's defeat at Millwall after a poor performance in the win against Leicester 72 hours earlier. But with Danny Shittu suspended and Fitz Hall still struggling with a hamstring problem, Connolly is set to return to partner Kaspars Gorkss in the centre of defence. Warnock is unlikely to ring the changes despite the 2-0 reverse at the Den, but Tommy Smith could be handed a start after his comeback from a hamstring problem. Jamie Mackie, Patrick Agyemang and Peter Ramage are still sidelined. www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2011/03/11/defender-set-for-qpr-return-82029-28319615/#ixzz1GHmNtcGI

Fulham Chronicle By Jacob Murtagh
Winger playing through pain to help QPR get promoted TOMMY Smith is playing through the pain barrier in a bid to get QPR promoted. The former Watford winger made his return from a hamstring injury in Tuesday night's defeat at Millwall. Smith came through the final 20 minutes of the 2-0 defeat at the Den unscathed, unlike his previous comeback when he lasted less than a half against Nottingham Forest four weeks ago. The 30-year-old still isn't fully fit, and admits he might not have been risked if Rangers were floating in mid-table. He said: "It's hard when you're coming back from injury and needed on the bench, especially on a cold night. "When you come on you're always a bit wary of your hamstring. I had a hot water bottle to keep my legs warm before hand. "I felt it a little bit and was aware of it. I've done it a couple of times and if it happens a third time it's a real problem. "I don't know if I would be playing if we were in mid-table. I would want to play as that's the only way of testing an injury properly, being out on the pitch." www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2011/03/11/winger-playing-through-pain-to-help-qpr-get-promoted-82029-28319586/#ixzz1GHmlu8oQ

CRYSTAL PALACE OFFICIAL SITE Next Up: QPR Posted on: Fri 11 Mar 2011 Palace go to Loftus Road on the back of a morale-boosting home win over promotion chasing Cardiff and will be looking for an element of revenge after a late winner saw Rangers take all three points home from Selhurst in October. The game though has been somewhat overshadowed by events off the pitch. On Wednesday the FA hit QPR with seven charges relating to the signing of Rangers midfielder Alejandro Faurlin. A potential points deduction has put a dampener on what has been a fantastic season for Neil Warnock's side. They sit top of the league by seven points and seemed to be set for a return to the Premier League until the events of the last seven days. Palace welcomed Kemy Agustien to the club on loan and will be boosted by the added creativity the Dutchman will offer against a QPR side that has a fantastic record at Loftus Road. Team News QPR: Neil Warnock has doubts over the fitness of Fitz Hall while Danny Shittu is suspended following his sending off against Millwall. Tommy Smith returned from injury off the bench against the Lions and may start. Peter Ramage, Patrick Agyemang and Jamie Mackie are long-term absentees. Crystal Palace: Alex Marrow is expected to remain sidelined with an ankle injury but new loan signing Kemy Agustien is available. QPR Official SiteTHE FRIDAY PREVIEW: EAGLES Posted on: Fri 11 Mar 2011 Rangers return to Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon for a London derby against local rivals Crystal Palace. Following Tuesday night's defeat to Millwall, the R's will be keen to bounce back to winning ways against the Eagles and with it strengthen their stranglehold on top spot in the npower Championship. The Hoops left it late to beat the SE25 outfit earlier in the season, with Heidar Helguson bagging a last-gasp winner to help clinch a 2-1 victory for Neil Warnock's men. George Burley was in charge that afternoon, but he has since departed, leaving Dougie Freedman to attempt to steer the Eagles clear of the dreaded relegation zone. Tuesday's win at home to high-flying Cardiff City lifted them four points clear of the trap door, but Palace's away form continues to be a burden on their survival hopes, having recorded just a solitary league victory on the road this term. The Numbers Game *1905 - The year Crystal Palace Football Club was formed. *11 minutes - The time it took Dougie Freedman to bag the Eagles' fastest ever hat-trick against Grimsby Town in March 1996. *£8.6 million - The record transfer fee received from Everton from Andrew Johnson in May 2006. *£2.75 million - The record transfer fee paid to Strasbourg for Valérien Ismaël in January 1998. *1990 - The year Crystal Palace finished runners-up in the FA Cup, losing to Manchester United. *1991 - The year the Eagles won the Zenith Data Systems Cup. Pre-match Talk *Shaun Derry - "They're a very capable side. "Dougie's done a really good job since he took the hot-seat at Selhurst. "Their away record isn't great, but they've tightened up of late. Dougie's regenerated them and it'll be a tough game." *Dougie Freedman - "Our away form, as far as results go, has been disappointing but our performances I am very comfortable with. "The players always react well in training and that's what we encourage, so we'll dust ourselves down, turn up for work with a smile on our face and look forward to the game at QPR. "We have got good characters, good ability in the dressing room and I feel confident that if we keep on fighting for each other, then it will turn." BBC Queens Park Rangers are without central defender Dan Shittu, who is suspended after being sent off during the midweek defeat against Millwall. Fitz Hall is still struggling with a hamstring problem and remains a doubt. Crystal Palace include new signing Kemy Agustien in their squad after signing the midfielder on loan from Swansea City for the remainder of the season. Alex Marrow, who has missed the last six games with an ankle problem, could be among the substitutes. MATCH PREVIEW Queens Park Rangers will look to bounce back from their defeat at Millwall - and put the threat of a points deduction to one side - when they take on manager Neil Warnock's former club Crystal Palace. And having done Rangers a favour by beating promotion-chasing Cardiff in midweek, Palace will be aiming to spring an even bigger surprise against the team that are seven points clear at the top of the Championship and boast the division's best home record, not to mention the country's best defensive record. Palace, on the other hand, have the worst away record in the second tier. Their climb out of the bottom three has been based on their excellent home form under boss Dougie Freedman, which continued with that triumph against Cardiff. On the road, Freedman's side have suffered three consecutive defeats, not won in 12 matches, and have taken only one point in 2011. So they may have their work cut out against the R's, whose loss at Millwall was their first defeat in 12 league games. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • QPR have won 37 and Palace 30 of the 96 previous matches between these clubs. • Rangers are unbeaten in their last five games against the Eagles. Queens Park Rangers • QPR are unbeaten in seven home matches. • A goal for the R's would be the club's 900th at home in the second tier. • This season they have conceded fewer league goals (22) and kept more clean sheets (20) than any other team. • A goal for Tommy Smith would be the 100th of his career. • Akos Buzsaky is in line for his 100th appearance for Rangers. • Shaun Derry, Clint Hill and Wayne Routledge are set to face their former club. Crystal Palace • A defeat for Palace would be the club's 900th away loss in league football. • The Eagles have picked up 72 cards this season (four red, 68 yellow). Only Leeds exceed that. • Palace have lost all three of their London derbies so far this term news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/9418796.stm

Derry auditioning ex-factor against Eagles Shaun Derry reckons the ex-factor will shrink the gap between leaders QPR and relegation strugglers Crystal Palace today. Rangers, who were hit with FA charges over the ownership of Argentine Alejandro Faurlin this week, have lost only one match in 18 at Loftus Road. While the Dougie Freedman’s Eagles have the worst away record in the Football League. But former Palace captain, who crossed London to join Neil Warnock along with Clint Hill last summer, said the club’s shared history means this is no simple top versus bottom clash. “It’s not just QPR versus Crystal Palace,” said Derry, who made 228 appearances in two spells for the Eagles. “It’s a Palace manager who played under Neil Warnock along with his coaching staff. Saturday has got so many things going for it and that makes it exciting. I couldn’t call what is going to happen, you never can in this division but that is even more the case this time. We’re still taking nothing for granted. There are sides capable of going on fantastic runs and it’s so important we don’t get carried away because it would be tragic for us to lose our lead now.” Derry, who led Palace to on-field survival last season after the club entered administration, returned to Selhurst Park when QPR won 2-1 in October. “I didn’t enjoy that game at all,” he admitted. “It wasn’t pleasurable to take the points off Palace but that’s football and you can’t help these situations. “Playing further down the season - when the result is really crucial for both clubs - is going to make the day even more tense. Ultimately you’ve got to get your professional head on and if the three points come to the detriment of Palace, then it is just unfortunate.” Palace’s record of taking only six points from 18 Championship away games this season explains why they sit in 21st place. But Freedman has no fears of taking on his former boss Warnock, who left Palace at the end of last season to join cash-rich QPR. The Scot said: “It’s probably the least pressurised game I’ve had to manage yet because they are the favourites with a Premier League wage bill. “They are really strong at home and our away record is terrible. Nobody expects us to win. I’m relaxed about it. We’ve got nothing to lose and my lads can just give it a right go and see what happens. I’m looking forward to it.” Read more: www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/QPR-s-Shaun-Derry-wants-a-result-against-former-club-Crystal-Palace-article712891.html#ixzz1GKtgyqxw

So we had the crucial (6-0!) relegation final game against Palace And the crucial FA Cup Quarter Final Game against Palace (1-0) And the first game under Don Howe at Palace (3-0)
And now today, another crucial game to show the football world and QPR that the wheels are not coming off the promotion waggon.
