Dons manager will not push his luck over Langley
aberdeen’s move for midfielder put on hold due to budget restraints

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown’s move for Jamaican midfielder Richard Langley is on hold until the summer as Brown does not want to push his luck with the Pittodrie board.
Brown revived his squad with five new additions in the January transfer window, with two players departing.
He is assessing former Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City midfielder Langley this week but any deal is now likely to be completed in the summer because of budget restraints.
Brown is wasting no time in making plans – but also has designs on the present.
The Dons travel to face St Johnstone tonight and he knows the higher his side finishes in the SPL, the more funds he may be allowed for the summer.
Brown said: “It might be Langley will be postponed until next season because I think I may have hit the budgetary limit. There will be no complaints from me.
“The board has been great and I do not want to push my luck. I do not want to sign anyone for the sake of it but, if there were injury or suspension issues, I am sure the board will consider it.
“If we are to get through in the Scottish Cup and have more games we might need to plead to push out the boat.
“But we will look at Langley with a view to next season.
“We take the chance we could lose him but the same goes for any player who is out of contract.
“There will be other options out there in the summer. There will be plenty of players out of contract but he is one we have looked at and we will know his capabilities. It saves bringing trialist after trialist in during the summer, as has happened in the past.
“Where we finish is important because the prizemoney on offer equates to a new player for every place.”
Brown will not give up on reaching the top half before the SPL split but insists the pressure is on others.
Kilmarnock and Motherwell are fourth and fifth and, while Caley Thistle occupy the sixth position in the top half, Dundee United are two points behind with three games in hand.
Brown, whose side has five matches remaining after tonight, believes United are favourites to claim the last spot.
He said: “I have never mentioned the top six.
“We would need to go on an amazing run and others would have to falter.
“It looks to me the top six will be the current top five plus Dundee United.
“If Kilmarnock and Motherwell failed to win another game and we kept winning we might sneak in, but others would be kicking themselves.
“It would take quite a collapse from others for us to get into the top six but, while it is mathematically possible, we have a great incentive.”
