Your viewEmailPrintGot a story?..To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in. .. CONNOR Wickham went over heavily on his ankle against Hull on Saturday, but the good news for Ipswich Town fans is that their 17-year-old star man will be fit for tomorrow’s big match at league leaders QPR. Manager Paul Jewell revealed, at this lunchtime’s press conference, that he has a clean bill of health and no new injuries, so Wickham is again set to operate on the left side of a 4-3-3 formation. “Connor went over on his ankle on Saturday, but he’s OK,” confirmed Jewell. The Town boss will welcome back Jimmy Bullard into the squad, after the Hull loanee was not allowed to play against his parent club in Saturday’s 1-1 draw. Bullard looks likely to go straight back into the side.

Yann Tear/Fulham Chronicle QPR sweat on duo ahead of Ipwich clash RANGERS are likely to start with the same XI as at Preston tomorrow night – providing Matt Connolly and Wayne Routledge shake off slight knocks picked up at Deepdale. The players were due another training session this afternoon (Monday) to finalise plans for the visit of the Tractor Boys to Loftus Road. Tommy Smith's hamstring injury keeps him out of the side and makes it likely he will also sit out Saturday's game at Middlesbrough, while Hogan Ephraim completes a three match ban for the red card picked up at Reading a fortnight ago. Ipswich should provide a much sterner test than the last time they visited west London – when they were hammered 7-0 by Chelsea in the FA Cup last month. They had just parted company with Roy Keane then, but have since appointed Paul Jewell, who has more than steadied the ship. The Tractor Boys, 13th in the Championship, are unbeaten in their last six league games – which included a 6-0 win at Doncaster when the much-coveted Connor Wickham claimed a hat-trick. Rangers are unbeaten in eight league games themselves in 2011 and looking to repeat a 3-0 win at Portman Road in September that ended a nine game search for a win against Town. www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/london-qpr/2011/02/21/qpr-sweat-on-duo-ahead-of-ipwich-clash-64767-28207897/#ixzz1EbTfwoQm

BBC (Presumably Dave McIntyre) Striker Troy Hewitt may be included in the QPR squad if his proposed move from Harrow Borough is completed in time. Hogan Ephraim remains suspended, while forward Tommy Smith is still out with a hamstring injury. Ipswich are still without David Norris (ankle), but Connor Wickham is expected to be passed fit despite picking up a knock against Hull City. On-loan Hull midfielder Jimmy Bullard is available again after being ineligible for Saturday's game. MATCH PREVIEW Ipswich have won on three of their last four visits to Loftus Road, and their form could hardly be better ahead of their trip to face the team that are five points clear at the top of the table. Town have won four of their last six matches and have scored 11 away league goals in 2011 - more than any other Championship side. Six of them came in a demolition of Doncaster in their last match on the road. However, they have lost all their away games this season against teams currently above them in the table, and their goalscoring credentials will be tested against Rangers, who boast the division's best defensive record - despite showing some frailty at the back at times. The London side are unbeaten in eight outings and will be keen to get back to wining ways after back-to-back draws. They have netted 33 times at home this term - more than any other second-tier club - but have found goals harder to come by recently. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Ipswich have won 26 and QPR 20 of the 63 previous league matches between these clubs. • A win for Rangers would complete the first league 'double' over Ipswich since the 1999/2000 season. Queens Park Rangers • QPR are the only side not to have lost a Championship match this season in which they were level at half-time. • They have been involved in six goalless draws - more than any other team in the division. • Heidar Helguson is in line for his 350th appearance for an English club, and Kaspars Gorkss his 150th league start. Ipswich • Ipswich have won four matches, drawn two and lost two since Paul Jewell took over as manager. • Goalkeeper Marton Fulop is set to make his 150th start for an English club. • Damien Delaney is poised to face his former club. news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/9402103.stm

By Carl Marston Tuesday, February 22, 2011
GARETH McAuley is looking forward to “getting his teeth into QPR” when Ipswich Town take on the league leaders at Loftus Road in West London this evening.GARETH McAuley is looking forward to “getting his teeth into QPR” when Ipswich Town take on the league leaders at Loftus Road in West London this evening. High-flying Rangers are five points clear at the top of the Championship, and red hot favourites to win promotion to the Premier League. They also gave Town a lesson in football last September, when Neil Warnock’s men romped to a crushing 3-0 win. But Town are a different proposition these days, under new manager Paul Jewell. The soft underbelly that was often in evidence under Roy Keane’s regime has gone, leaving Town as one of the in-form teams in the division. And Town also have recent history on their side tonight – they are unbeaten in their last four visits to Loftus Road, winning three of them. “We didn’t do ourselves justice against QPR at home, but we’re looking forward to getting our teeth into them,” enthused McAuley. “It’s a nice tight little ground, and I think as a club as a whole we have got quite a good record at Loftus Road. “It’s games like these that you relish, and really want to play in. “When you’re on a good run, you don’t mind playing on Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday. It gives you a chance to put some points on the board quickly,” added McAuley. Centre-half McAuley has been in outstanding form for Town this season, and a week ago celebrated his 100th league game for the club with the headed fifth goal in a 6-0 win at Doncaster. Town have taken 14 points out of a possible 18 in their last six league games. In fact, Jewell has not suffered a league defeat since the 2-1 reverse at Millwall in his first game in charge.

QPR Official Site MATCHDAY PREVIEW: TRACTOR BOYS Tonight the R's play host to in-form Ipswich Town in the npower Championship. QPR go into the match on the back of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Preston, while the Tractor Boys experienced the same scoreline at home to Hull. Paul Jewell has been at the helm at Portman Road for six weeks and has wasted no time in changing the fortunes of the Club. His men are unbeaten in their last six fixtures, and showcased their potential seven days ago with a stunning 6-0 win at Doncaster. Connor Wickham has revelled under Jewell's guidance, scoring a hat-trick in that victory at the Keepmoat. At just 17 years of age, the powerful front man stands 6'2" tall and could pose a real threat to the Rangers rearguard this evening. At the other end of the pitch, former 'R' Damien Delaney has been a regular under Jewell at centreback and he will be looking to get one over on his old team-mates at Loftus Road. In September, QPR travelled to Portman Road at a time when Ipswich were flying high in the play-off places. A brace from Jamie Mackie helped Rangers to a 3-0 win in Suffolk. The Numbers Game *1878 - The year that Ipswich Town Football Club was formed *30, 311 - The capacity of the Tractor Boys' Portman Road home *£6.5million - Record transfer fee received for Kieron Dyer from Newcastle United in July 1999 *591 - Most league appearances made for the Club by Mick Mills between 1966 and 1982 *7-0 - Ipswich's biggest league over Portsmouth in November 1964 *£6.5million - The biggest transfer fee paid for Matteo Sereni from Sampadoria in July 2001 *47 - Most international caps won while at Town by Allan Hunter, Northern Ireland *203 - Most league goals scored for the Club by Ray Crawford between 1958 and 1969 Pre-match Talk *Neil Warnock - "Ipswich are on a very good run, unbeaten in six and with that fantastic 6-0 win over Doncaster recently. It shows how difficult tonight's match will be. "But I have said to the players that they have got to enjoy this moment in their careers, irrespective of the pressures that allegedly we are under." *Paul Jewell - "QPR are tough to beat, they don't concede many goals and they've got matchwinners in the team as well, and that makes a huge difference."
