HULL CITY: I believe in our match winners, says Pearson, as Tigers face QPR Nigel PearsonNIGEL Pearson believes Hull City now have the match-winners to deliver a promotion statement against league leaders QPR at the KC Stadium tomorrow. City are looking to extend their march towards the play-off race when they welcome the Championship's red-hot title favourites. Beaten just three times in 27 games this season, QPR represent the stiffest test of the Tigers' promotion ambitions to date. But with confidence soaring on the back of one defeat in their last 12 Championship games, manager Nigel Pearson believes his side can be a match for any in the division. "We'll have to be at our best, there's no doubt about that, if we want to win it," he told the Mail. "We know they are a very effective side and an exciting side as well. "They've got players who are match-winners but we feel as though we've got more match-winners in our side. "It's important we show the stubbornness of last week at Reading, but couple it with a performance that's a lot better with the ball to give our forwards better opportunities." A 1-1 draw at play-off rivals Reading last week maintained a promising run of form which has yielded 23 points from the last 12 games. Currently 12th, a win could see City climb up to 10th and within five points of sixth-placed Leeds, who visit the KC on Tuesday. Pearson remains calm over the season's final target of promotion but believes there is still room for improvement. "If you ever think you can't improve you might as well pack up and go home," said Pearson. "There's always going to be something where you can improve. "I know there's still exceptionally mixed reviews from within our fan base and that's pretty natural but we're striving to be as good as we can be. Whether that's good enough this season remains to be seen. "People might say these are big games and if we don't win them it could be the end of it for us this season, but we have to be focused on the job in hand." www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/sport/HULL-CITY-match-QPR-s-match-winners-says-Pearson/article-3156113-detail/article.html

QPR Official Site Preview THE FRIDAY PREVIEW: TIGERS Posted on: Fri 28 Jan 2011 The KC Stadium is the destination for Neil Warnock's table-topping charges on Saturday afternoon, as the R's aim to cement their place at the summit of the npower Championship. Rangers head to Humberside buoyed by a fine victory against Coventry City last time out, with two stunning goals from Adel Taarabt and Wayne Routledge sealing maximum points for Warnock's men. Article continues Advertisement Hull, however, will provide a stern test for the R's. Nigel Pearson's ever-improving Tigers currently occupy 12th spot in the second tier, and with former Rangers loanee Jay Simpson finding his feet at the KC Stadium and Matty Fryatt and Aaron McLean beginning to gel, many expect them to gate-crash the top-six in the coming weeks. "We thrive on going to the big stadiums though and we'll head to the KC full of confidence." *Jay Simpson - "QPR have done very well this season. "Last season they started well and then were battling against relegation, so to maintain their place at the top shows how well they've done this year. HULL OFFICIAL SITE Looking Forward To The Test Posted on: Fri 28 Jan 2011 Craig Shakespeare is looking forward to seeing how the Tigers shape up when they take on league leaders Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. It will be the first time the two sides have met this season and with QPR having led the way for most of the campaign, Shakespeare is looking forward to the test they will provide for City at the KC Stadium. "We've had a good week in training after getting a good result at Reading and we're feeling confident going into this one," said Shakespeare. Article continues Advertisement "We know QPR have a good record and are top of the table, so I think this will be a good test for us. "Neil Warnock is renowned for getting his teams 'at it' and they have been up there all season. The recent loan signings they have made show that they have some clout behind them and they are up there on merit. "It will be a tough game for us but it's one that we can look forward to. We have to take some confidence and positivity from our own performances and everything points towards an open game on Saturday. "We want the three points and I'm sure with the way in which they play, they will be coming for that as well." With just one defeat in the last 12 league games, Shakespeare is pleased with the way the City side is gelling together and is looking forward to the rest of the season. "You always hope that new signings will settle in quickly," added Shakespeare. "I think Matty Fryatt's record since coming here has been okay, James Chester will only get better and Corry Evans showed what he can do last weekend. "The lads that have been here since we arrived have slowly bedded in to the way in which we want them to play and the results show that and suggest that we're getting better. "We'd like to finish on a high for the rest of the season, but I still think there is room for improvement."
