MANAGEMENT DUO DEPART
Posted on: Tue 04 Jan 2011
WALSALL Football Club have today announced the departure of first-team manager, Chris Hutchings, and assistant manager, Martin O'Connor.
The duo have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect and Head of Youth, Dean Smith, will take temporary charge of first-team affairs as The Saddlers begin the search for a new manager.
Chris and Martin arrived at the Banks's Stadium in January 2009 in difficult circumstances and helped the club finish the 2008/09 campaign in 13th place in the League One table. Last season the pair guided The Saddlers to a tenth-place finish but, after just five wins during the current campaign and with The Saddlers bottom of the League One table, the club believe a change is necessary.
"Chris and Martin have both worked extremely hard during their time at the club," said Chairman, Jeff Bonser. "They have been professional throughout and have conducted themselves with great dignity in what have been difficult times.
"Their preparation and professionalism has been second-to-none but we are in a results business and, unfortunately, results have not gone their way.
"We wish Chris and Martin all the very best for the future and hope they find future employment in the game and enjoy the success that their hard work and professionalism deserves."
The club can also confirm that Chief Scout, David Hamilton, has also left the Banks's Stadium.
"As with Chris and Martin, I would like to place on record my thanks to David for all his hard work and effort and hope he finds future employment in the game," added Mr. Bonser.
