FIFA, UEFA criticize WADA doping rulesadd this RSS blog email print Updated: February 18, 2009, 8:25 AM EST Comment BRUSSELS (AP) - FIFA and UEFA are demanding more relaxed out-of-competition drug testing rules.
The world and European football bodies are against the whereabouts provisions in the World Anti-Doping Agency code. Under the rules, athletes have to specify in advance one hour a day when and where they can be located for controls.
In an interview Wednesday with The Associated Press, FIFA medical committee chairman Michel D'Hooghe compared some of the current rules to the "inquisition."
He says less than 0.1 percent of doping tests in football are positive.
UEFA president Michel Platini says his organization is "completely against" the idea of players being available 365 days a year for testing. He says players should be exempt from testing when they are on holiday.
