Bradford City defender Zesh Rehman has been placed on the transfer list and stripped of the captaincy because of a club disciplinary matter.

Rehman, 27, recently questioned why he had been overlooked for first-team selection and will now be available for a free transfer in January.

The captain's armband has been handed to midfielder Lee Bullock.

Pakistan captain Rehman has featured in 12 games this season, but has been an unused sub for the last two matches.

In a live BBC Radio Leeds interview on 29 November, Rehman said: "I'm not going to lie, it's left a bad taste in my mouth having to watch the last few games from the bench.

"I've led the team to good results and performances and then I've had four young loan defenders, with 10 league games between them, come in and play ahead of me.

"Now, no disrespect to them, but at times like this I think you need experience.

"I'm club captain, have played over 200 games in my career so far and I think my experience could help the team right now.

"It's not just me that's baffled as to why I'm not playing, but my team-mates as well and I've been stopped by a number of fans too.

"But, at the end of the day, the manager [Peter Taylor] has to pick the team that he thinks can win and you have to respect that and get on with it."

Rehman joined Bradford in January 2009, originally on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

He then agreed a permanent deal at Valley Parade in July.

"The manager has spoken to me about it and he feels the right-backs he has brought in are a bit more attacking than myself," added Rehman.

"But the last game I played at right-back was in a 5-0 win [against Oxford] and that was probably our most attacking performance of the season.

"So I won't necessarily agree with that opinion but you have to respect it."

He probably wants games at his stage of career and wouldn't get many at QPR, although ts always worth having a wide range of nationalities in the squad as it increases the range of overseas support and he's a rare Asian origin player over here who has been good enough and may still be. Might be worth a look?

The time we had him as the big buy from Fulham our back four were a living nightmare.I always had to take strong tranquilizers in last 10 mins.. He led the retreat and also, in falling over,
and stopping playingwhen he thought opponebt was offside. Curious Genleman.But he really should have stuck with Cricket.

Bradford City defender Zesh Rehman has expressed his surprise and disappointment at being stripped of the club's captaincy and placed on the transfer list.

Earlier this week Rehman spoke of his frustration at being forced to watch the struggling Bantams from the sidelines, comments that manager Peter Taylor reacted to.

The 27-year-old is confused by the latest developments as the action has put a black mark against his name when he has never had any problems with previous managers.

The former Fulham and QPR stopper, who will hold fresh talks with Taylor on Monday, feels he was justified to voice his dissatisfaction at being unable to help the first team, but now accepts that he will move on in January.

Rehman remains fully committed to Bradford while contracted to the West Yorkshire club and would have no qualms playing under Taylor when he is called upon for first-team duty again.

"I'm at the club and will continue to give 100 per cent when called upon as always," he told skysports.com.

"I've worked 24/7 on and off the pitch for the club, as I have done for every club I've been at. The fans have been good to me since I've been here and I really appreciate their continued support.

"I'm aware of how quickly things can change in this game and you can never say never.

"I have played in all four leagues and have always received praise for my professionalism, work ethic and attitude."

Still though Mike, remember the other one that came in at that time?. It was Blackstock who turned

out to be a great acquisition, as he and Jones RIP kept us up when his manager ntk was fired for Gordon.

Then Dex got into the choppy waters of the river Briatore and was exiled.

But 50%aint bad for that time and remember we couldnt afford a scout so it was up to Giannis

judgement and the best deal for him, cant bame him, a guys got to make a living you know.

Blackstock was a good signing...

But of course we could afford a scout...Even if we had to pay Padula for Gianni's error - and various agents...and various players who weren't too good...and Holloway/Penrice/Breacker gardening leave wages for a whole year...etc

Indeed everyone has to make a living - but off not the teat of QPR! QPR is not a cash cow. (Sorry, I'll rephrase that. QPR should not be a cash cow for someone)

Well you 100% correct with the timing guys cause a remember dex signing in Aug 2006 as it was near my birthday and Rehman signed 2 days after !
He could possibly still compete in league 1 or 2 but i would not say he could never compete in the Championship !
Was there some fall out with Taylor ? seems a strange way to go !
Mind you we have seen our fair share of incidents over the last 10 years at our Club so we know what can go on !
Wish him all the best at his new club and he does do a hell of work in the community!


Its strange though that most of our recent managers to my knowledge are not working again ?
Why is this , their names should not be tarnished by the way QPR treated them ?
