And on the Gillingham Official SiteQPR LADIES 2-0 GILLS LADIES Posted on: Mon 25 Oct 2010 By Chris Dicketts Gillingham Ladies slipped to a disappointing defeat away at Queens Park Rangers on Sunday afternoon. Despite dominating large parts of the game they fell behind through a Sandra Scalzi strike in the 18th minute. As the Gills pushed for an equaliser they were caught with a sucker punch from Beth Curtis to hand QPR their first win of the season. The Gills were terrorising the QPR defence with Vicky Ashton-Jones having the beating of the full back time and time again. Half chances came and went through Ashlee Hincks, Lauren Phillips and Danielle Carlton as the Gills goal scoring touch deserted them. The QPR goal came from a long clearance out of the back, when the Gills defence allowed a goal kick to bounce. The initial shot was brilliantly saved by Becky Spencer in the Gills goal but the rebound fell to Sandra Scalzi who slotted home from close range. The Gills continued to press the ball well through Jodie Mugford in the midfield as well as create half chances for the strikers through Danni Farmer and Danielle Carlton. In the second half it was like a totally different Gillingham team came out as they were virtually nonexistent from the off. The best chance of the second fell to substitute Natalie Crinean who sent her shot high over the bar from close range. As the Gills huffed and puffed and tried to find their way back into the game they were getting no reward in front of goal and ultimately got caught on the counter attack. With just ten minutes left on the clock QPR secured their first win of the season as they broke with the Gills chasing the game. The ball broke to Beth Curtis who showed brilliant awareness and calmness under pressure to lift the ball over Becky Spencer for an expert finish. The defeat leaves the Gills in mid table with seven points from their opening six games of their debut season in the Southern Premiership. Full Time 2-0 Gills: Spencer, Williams, Cheedy, Lyon (c) (Crinean, 60), Jones, Mugford (Cooper, 69), Carlton, Farmer, Phillips (Jeffery, 60), Hincks, Ashton-Jones Subs not used: Martin, McConville www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/page/LadiesReports/0,,10416~2195546,00.html

About QPR Ladies (Not sure when this was dated, so a couple of specific planned future actions might be outdated)From "QPR in the Community"
QPR Women’s FC In this their 12th season connected to the Club, QPR Ladies continue to represent the R’s in the fastest growing participation sport in the country. And currently the Ladies are showing the Rangers boys how to do it, standing as they do, at the top of the South West Combination Women’s Football League. The team has been led by Martino Chevannes who oversaw the side’s only major trophy win in 2007, when Rangers won the South West Combination League Cup. That was the only final the R’s have won, but have been beaten finalists in the Middlesex Women’s Senior Cup numerous times in the past few seasons, whilst have also recorded a number of runners-up spots in the League. The Hoops have been in the second tier of Women’s football ever since they were relegated from the FA Women’s Premier League in 2002, after merging with top flight side Wembley Mill Hill in 2001. Chevannes is well aware of the differences this time around: “When we merged, it was thought that the former Mill Hill players would continue as the First Team for QPR and the QPR players would act as the youth side and the reserve team, who would play in the FA Women’s Premier Reserve League. “However, we lost a lot of the Mill Hill players and unfortunately, those original R’s players who replaced them lacked experience and we went down. But over the years we have collected together a team of real quality and depth and its showing so far.” The Ladies boast a Wales Under-21 international in Ceryl Guard and also have an England ‘B’ international in Susannah Abbott, but the real jewel in the crown has been free-scoring striker Cherrelle Albert. The team, along with the Girl sides at Under-11s, -13s, -15s and -18s (with Under-9s added in the Spring of 2009), moved under the organisation of the Football in the Community department in 2005, after former Rangers chief executive Mark Devlin decided the change would ensure a smoother operation. And it has been just that, with the Ladies side not the only ones enjoying success. Community coach Steve Quashie heads the youth section and under his guidance every age group is challenging not only for top spot in their respective leagues in the Home Counties League, but are also all in the hunt for the Middlesex Girls Cup at every age group. It is familiar territory for QPR’s Girls as over the years the Club has won no less than 13 League titles, been three times winners of the Middlesex County Youth Cup and recorded five League Cup wins across the age groups. Back to the present day, it is the intention of the Club for QPR Ladies to head to Bahrain in the coming months to face the country’s national Women’s side, with a return match scheduled for later this year. Add that to the prospect of Premier League football, and the future of the Ladies side of QPR looks very healthy indeed. www.qprcommunitytrust.co.uk/qpr_womens_fc.aspx

GIRLS GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH Posted on: Wed 20 Oct 2010 Following an extremely busy pre season training programme, the Club has increased the amount of registered players and now boasts five under-age squads ranging from Under-11 to Under-18. The Girls programme is headed by Steve Quashie, and the philosophy which is shared by all staff is; work ethic; to support the players during their contact hours at the Club; and facilitating the players learning in order to help them reach their ultimate potential. Throughout the technical training programme all outfield players are encouraged to express themselves on the ball, demonstrating high levels of skill and competence whether performing individually or as a collective unit. Article continues Advertisement The goalkeepers are coached by Scott Loughran, and his hard work and enthusiasm on the training pitch has paid off as many of the goal keepers have kept clean sheets in the games to date. The goalkeepers across the age groups have shown good ability, which naturally helps them to become confident and improves their decision making both in training and competitive games. U-11 During the summer we recruited no fewer than nine players which enabled the Club to field two squads that compete in the Home Counties Girls League. This is the final season that this age group will be playing seven-a-side football before making the transition to playing on an intermediate 11-a-side pitch. All players have made a positive start to the training and games programme, with the emphasis being on technical development and trial and error learning. This age group is coached and managed by Anthony Hennelly, Kerri Coombs and Scarlett Hanrahan. U-13 This age group is managed and coached by Dale Mcginnes and Daniele Denyer. The Under-13's have started the season on a positive note scoring 25 goals and only conceding five in the league. The talented squad have shown great character in a recent fixture coming back form 4-0 down at half-time to finish all square in an eight goal thriller with Croydon Borough. We are looking to build on our strong start to the season and dominate games in terms of skill and possession. The girls are forward thinking intelligent footballers. We also excited about the league and County Cup games ahead. U-15 The U-15's had an amazing season last year winning the League, League Cup, Middlesex County Cup, Tesco Southern Region and Tesco English National Winners. They also represented England at the Reebok Stadium in the Tesco UK Home Finals. This season we have signed three new players and have now joined the Surrey County League to try and give the squad a different challenge. Craig Preston has also acquired the services of ex QPR Ladies and Girls player Sharon Odofin as his new assistant. The team has a 100 per-cent record to date this season, and have continued to progress from the previous league campaign. The squad continues to play very attractive football and they have applied themselves tremendously well when developing their individual and collective skills. U-18 Following a successful U-16 campaign last season the Club decided to enter the squad into the Surrey Girls and Women's U-18 Premier Division. The U-18 division bridges the gap between Girls and Ladies football and allows players more time to develop their tactical, social and mental skills. Following successful trials Manager Steve Quashie made six new additions to the squad which has improved the dynamics in this age group. The U-18's play attractive and penetrating football and at this stage are currently top of their respective league. This month the team has important league and cup matches however Steve and assistant manager Scott will keep the players motivated and won't allow them to lose focus.
