Binfield's fortunes away from home slightly improved with a hard-fought point during a tight encounter at Scours Lane in the Hellenic Premier Division on Tuesday night.
Former QPR midfielder Ollie Burgess made his debut for Binfield and, in the 70 minutes he had on the pitch before jarring his knee, he showed plenty of promise.
The first half hour was altogether forgettable, with both sides cancelling each other out and chances few and far between.
As the half wore on, Binfield did start to exert some pressure, but failed to seriously trouble Chris Rackley in the Town goal.
The best chance of the half came on 32 minutes as Gary Callaway rose superbly to meet a corner, but his effort bounced off the top of the bar and away to safety.
Binfield took the initiative once again at the start of the second half, and after squandering a couple of half chances, the Moles took the lead on the hour mark.
Ian Davies flicked the ball into the path of strike partner Carl Davies and he ran into the area and blasted the ball into the bottom corner.
But as has been their recent away trend, the Moles gifted an equaliser to the home side.
A harmless looking lob from the half-way line was flicked on by the Binfield defence under little pressure, despite a clear shout from Chris Adams in the Binfield goal not to.
Second-half sub Marcus Richardson gladly accepted the gift to nod in unmarked at the far post.
The night was to get worse for Adams in the 72nd minute as he raced out of his area to prevent a clear run on goal and, as he dived, the ball hit his arms in front of his chest and the referee inevitably showed him a red card.
It was probably one of the less contentious decisions of a poor refereeing performance that saw a ridiculous amount of yellow cards shown in a match that hardly saw a bad challenge.
With no keeper on the bench, Carl Withers had to replace Adams in the Binfield goal and Reading sensibly tried to put balls into the box at every opportunity to put him under pressure.
But the defence protected Withers admirably and, apart from another Richardson chance when he got goal side of the defenders in the 90th minute only to miscue his shot, the match petered out to a draw.
On the night, the draw was probably a fair result, but Moles manager Mark Tallentire is worried about a run of form that has seen them fail to win away from home so far this season.
“The rub of the green just isn’t quite going with us away from home at the moment,” said Tallentire.
Binfield have the home comforts of Hill Farm Lane to look forward to at the weekend, with a league match against Pegasus Juniors, which is a must win as they aim to get moving up the table and back towards the title-chasing pack.
