Jobi named Royal ambassador
Posted on: Tue 12 Oct 2010
Royals winger Jobi McAnuff has been named the club's ambassador during the upcoming Kick It Out campaign.
Our designated home fixture during the Kick It Out weeks of action is Saturday's match with Swansea City, kick off 3pm.
The Royals will be showing their support for this hugely important campaign, and Jobi said, "I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to be the club's ambassador for this, it's an honour because it's a very important role."
The winger, who was captain in our last game at Preston, continued, "I think it's vital that football continues to eradicate racism at every turn. A lot of hard work has already gone in, but that doesn't mean we can become complacent, we have to be vigilant and make sure it never creeps back in. I can't imagine what it must have been like many years ago and we need to make sure we never go back to that.
"I think this country absolutely leads the way in making sure we are an open, inclusive culture, and we extend that into football as much as we possibly can. It seems like a lot of countries could lead from our example and long may our good work continue."
From the 14th-26th October, professional football will join up with the grassroots game and schools and community groups across the country to celebrate equality and inclusion, both within football and the wider society.
Players across all four divisions will be taking to the field in the iconic One Game One Community t-shirts to show support for the campaign and the work that football is doing to promote equality and diversity. This support will also be replicated by the England men's and women's teams.
Kick It Out also has a number of t-shirts which are available for fans to purchase to help them show support for this important message. Sweatbands, beanie hats, badges, pennants, lanyards and flags, are available for individuals or groups wishing to organise an event during the period.
Football fans everywhere can stamp their own mark on the campaign by getting their hands on a range of resources at www.kickitout.org, including official t-shirts for just £6. To find out how you can show your support for the One Game One Community message visit www.kickitout.org or call 020 7684 4884.
