They're tough down there! (Ex-QPR's Dean Wilkins Acting Manager ) Southampton Official SiteOfficial Club Statement Posted on: Mon 30 Aug 2010 New First Team Football Manager and Coaches to be Appointed Following a review of the current status in and around the First Team, the Club has decided that, to achieve its well known targets, it is essential to make changes to the First Team management and coaching. These targets for sustained and significant progress embrace both the First Team and the Football Development & Support Centre as integrated, co-operative units. Consequently, the First Team Manager, Alan Pardew; First Team Coach, Wally Downes; and Goalkeeping Coach, Stuart Murdoch have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect. The Club wishes them well for the future. While we have commenced our careful evaluation of our candidates and longer term requirements, Dean Wilkins has taken on the caretaker role for the First Team and he will be assisted by Martin Hunter, the Under 21 coach. We recognise that frequent changes to the football management are unlikely to assist in the winning of trophies and promotions. However, we are taking these steps to achieve our aims, which we share with all supporters, to get promoted this season, and secure long term stability and progress for our football operations. - ends - Enquiries: Jordan Sibley, Club Spokesman +44 (0) 2380 711988 David Bick/Paul McGoohan Square1 Consulting +44 (0) 207 929 5599 www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2139306,00.html

Southampton Daily Echo Sacking Alan Pardew is a crazy decision by Southampton, says Mike O'Callaghan 11:10am Monday 30th August 2010 Print Email Share Comments(13) By Simon Carter ยป Sports Editor "It's a crazy decision, and a crazy wrong decision as well." Those are the words of Southampton Independent Supporters Association chairman Mike O'Callaghan in the wake of Alan Pardew's shock departure this morning. "I don't understand it, just like I don't understand a lot of Nicola Cortese's decisions," he said. "We had stability again, now it's been taken away. "It beggars belief. "I would say 90 per cent of the fans would not agree with Pardew's sacking and will be sad that he's gone." "Pardew has been very harshly treated, he did a good job last season and won us a trophy. "He's only had three games this season! "Why not sack him last week, why wait until we've won 4-0 away. "I wouldn't have agreed with sacking him if we'd lost 4-0 at Bristol Rovers. "At least give him until the end of November." www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/8360829.Pardew_s_sacking_a__crazy_decision_/?ref=rss
