Gareth Ainsworth scored his first League goals in a QPR shirt to help the London club to an impressive win over Blackpool.
Ainsworth, who signed from Cardiff during the close season, took just three minutes to give Ian Holloway's side the lead with the most straightforward of goals.

Gino Padula's corner drifted over the Blackpool defence and Ainsworth was left unmarked to turn in the loose ball at the back post.

On the stroke of half-time Richard Langley effectively secured the points by steering home a cross from Kevin Gallen, who then got his own reward when he bundled a rebound into the net in the 56th minute.

Ainsworth then drove a close-range strike past Phil Barnes and Steve Palmer wrapped up an emphatic win in injury time.

Blackpool had Richie Wellens dismissed for a second bookable offence after bringing down defender Clarke Carlisle.

August 9, 2005 - QPR 2 Ipswich 1

First-half strikes from Kevin Gallen and Martin Rowlands were enough to give QPR their first home win of the season.

Rangers were on top in the opening period and could have been further ahead, but Ipswich improved after the break and were lifted by Sam Parkin's first goal for the club since his summer move from Swindon.

Parkin was denied a second only by a remarkable Marcus Bignot clearance, while Rowlands and Paul Furlong had goals disallowed for Rangers, who just about merited their victory.

Out-of-favour Charlton defender Mark Fish made the first appearance of a month-long loan spell at Ipswich - but his lack of match sharpness was evident as QPR captain Gallen continually got the better of him.

It was no surprise, indeed, to see Fish taken off at half-time and replaced by Matt Richards.

Rangers posed the greater attacking threat early on - but it was Ipswich who created the clearest chance of the game's opening phase.

Jim Magilton sent Nicky Forster - a summer signing from Reading - clear, but the striker's powerful drive drew a fine save from keeper Simon Royce.

In the 29th minute, the unmarked Gallen missed an equally good chance for Rangers, shooting well wide from 10 yards.

But the experienced forward gave his side the lead eight minutes from the break, deceiving Fish before turning and firing past Lewis Price from eight yards.

The imposing Dan Shittu nodded away Forster's goalbound header in the 39th minute, while at the other end Marc Bircham was convinced he should have had a penalty following an apparent trip by Ian Westlake.

But Rangers doubled their lead in the 45th minute, Gareth Ainsworth crossing from the right for the unmarked Rowlands, who volleyed in a simple chance at the far post.

Price saved at the second attempt from a Furlong drive five minutes after half-time, before Parkin lifted Ipswich spirits with a terrific 54th-minute goal.

The one-time Chelsea trainee robbed a dawdling Georges Santos inside the box before curling a precise effort into Royce's top-left corner.

Furlong was Rangers' top scorer last season with 18 goals, but he was far less accurate tonight - the former Chelsea striker put a free header too close to Price in the 61st minute, and seconds later Gallen hit an angled drive just wide of the left post.

The home side had an incredible escape 15 minutes from time, Bignot somehow clearing Parkin's close-range effort off the line when he seemed certain to equalise.

But two minutes later, it was Ipswich who were grateful when Rangers had another goal ruled out, Furlong adjudged offside when he tapped in Rowlands' cut-back - and the 36-year-old was frustrated again shortly afterwards, his diving header trickling wide.
