I received an email from a QPR fan who said he bumped into our ex center half, Vic Mobley (1969/1970-1970/71) about three years ago in Auckland, New Zealand where Mobley now lives, selling insurance.... Vic Mobley: Born October 11, 1943 - Signed from Sheffield Wednesdsay by Les Allen, in October 1969 for 55,000 pounds. Unfortunately Mobley was shortly after injured (or was "pre-injured" when QPR signed him), and only played 30+ games for QPR." Rothmans Football Yearbook 1973/74 Fen: "Q.P.R. are suing Sheffield W. over the transfer of Vic Mobley. They paid 55,000 pounds for him, but shortly after the deal in 1969, Mobley had to give up football on medical advice" - dspace.dial.pipex.com/bob.dunning/thirty33.htmWikipedia Profile - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vic_Mobley

Remember him well.
He was the stereotypical big centre half and when he arrived I was pleased to say the least but.....
I'm staggered to read above that he in fact played 30+ games for us because in my rapidly fading/failing memory, I was sure he only played 3 or 4 times?
Good luck to the fella though.

I also remember his arrival, we had great expectations but due to the injuries never settled into the side. I too would have guessed that he only played a handful of games for us, still more than the lad we signed from Blunderland a few years back, was his name Steve Orr?

Even Vinnie Jones made more appearances than Ord. Vic Mobley, I remember reading about him in the 70's in some old QPR mags etc. Keith Pritchett also lives in New Zealand (75/76 squad) as well as Richard Johnson and Reece Crowther.

Bump from a couple years...
Occurred to me if anyone in New Zealand is interested, might try and contact them and ask about their QPR days and post here...Do a full interview or just a couple questions...Mobley wasn't the greatest at QPR but he was here with Marsh and Venables and Brigdes etc...

At the time he signed Shankly stated " Rangers would have won promotion but now it is a certainty"!
Unfortuntately he still remains the worst centre half I have seen wear a Rangers shirt, and boy have I seen quite a lot of dross!

What about Nick Ward of the Phoenix Andy. Also not QPR but sort of as Gary Locke x Chelsea, Crystal Palace, He supported QPR lived in Willesden, was at the same Game as me when Mark Lazarus lost His Shorts and Sprinted down the line in His Jock Strap and Scored. His Father in Law Eric Tompkins (deceased) was also a QPR Fan. Gary Locke now works for The HB Today Newspaper here in Napier.

I did an unofficial interview with Reece Crowther, Richard Johnson and had a chat with Nick Ward. What they said is best kept in my head. Although Nick did say he felt he was too immature when he arrived at QPR and perhaps did not appreciate the opportunity as well as he could have. He blows hot and cold down here after a short stint somewhere else. Last season he was very good for the Phoenix.
