Football League - LEAGUE SUPPORTS NADS
Posted on: 09.03.2010
The Football League has announced its support of the National Association of Disabled Supporters 2010 'Level Playing Field Weeks of Action' which is taking place this March.
Level Playing Field is a disability awareness initiative promoting the need for an inclusive and equal experience for all fans and brings together all clubs in the professional game.
Between 13 and 28 March 2010, all clubs will have the opportunity to show what they have achieved for disabled supporters.
"The Football League fully supports the Level Playing Field Campaign," said Gavin Megaw, Director of External Affairs at the Football League.
"We are delighted to be working with NADS to provide seminars for clubs on the needs of disabled supporters. The League is committed to continuing a positive relationship with the organisation as we work to improve the customer service experience of all disabled supporters."
Around 30,000 disabled fans attend League matches each season but with more than 10 million disabled people in the UK, NADS want to see disable attendances increasing.
The challenges faced by disabled people are numerous and often unexpected and NADS works alongside the football family and government lobbying for continued improvements and sharing good practice.
Many people will imagine someone in a wheelchair when thinking of disability and around 1% of the population uses a wheelchair. However there are many types of disability, some more hidden, and each with specific access needs.
This year's campaign is focusing on ambulant disabled supporters - people with a wide range of disabilities who are not regular wheelchair users. This could include diabetes, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis or Cancer and the facilities they require would vary depending on the specific effects of the illness or disability.
