QPR OFFICIAL SITERaheem Sterling has joined Liverpool for an undisclosed fee. The QPR youth product has been a regular in the QPR Under 18s this season and has also featured in the Reserves. The 15-year-old made his debut for the England U16s in November as a second-half substitute against Northern Ireland, and has gone on to make two further appearances for Kenny Swain's team. QPR's Youth Development Manager Steve Gallen said: "It is obviously disappointing to lose Raheem. I know him very well, having worked closely with him for a number of years. "We wanted to keep him, but Raheem was keen to play for an Academy, and Liverpool is obviously an excellent move for him, as far as that is concerned. "Liverpool's bid matched our valuation of him, and we all wish him well. "Raheem is a fantastic lad with a brilliant attitude. The players and staff are going to miss him around the place. "I hope, and I firmly believe, that he will have a great future in the game." The Club wishes Raheem well for the future. www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1979175,00.html?

Good luck to Raheem and his family. Congratulations on joining the club you support, just a shame it's not the greatest team the world has ever seen though.

Only question I have: Is there anything we could have done to have kept him? If he wants the bigger club/better coaching environment and academy/play for his club, fine. If it's anything an ambitious club could have done to have kept him, and we didn't; or if we sold him for the money: Well that's another matter Parrett...O'Brien...Sterling

Gallen said they matched the clubs valuation so I guess we got 90k for him -30k for you-know-who of course. (cough cough, nudge nudge) Shame the club does rebuild the former Academy but then that might have brought results.

And an article a couple months earlier (Nov 2009) November 2009 Mail/Standard
LEO'S LONDON: Forget breaking records, QPR must convince teenage sensation Raheem Sterling to snub Chelsea and CoIf QPR's best attempt to keep teenage wonderkid Raheem Sterling is the promise to throw him in at the deep end in the Championship, they really must try harder. Reports suggest that manager Jim Magilton is preparing to make the forward the Football League's youngest player by blooding him soon after his 15th birthday next month. They are so desperate to keep Sterling out of the clutches of the Premier League clubs who are tracking him they are resorting to a shallow gimmick. Golden boy: Raheem Sterling in action for England under 16s Reuben Noble-Lazarus currently holds the record as the Football League's youngest player after making his Barnsley debut aged 15 years and 45 days near the beginning of last season. But he has made only one additional substitute appearance since and not been seen at all this term. The previous record was set in 1929 and there is a reason it has not been broken frequently - high-level professional football is played by men, not boys. Sterling, by all accounts, is already an excellent player: quick and skilful. He has made an impressive debut for England's under 16s and volleyed a stunning winner for Rangers under 18s last Saturday. But he is small, still has some growing to do and plays in the hole, a position where he would be a prime target for a less-than-sophisticated defender. For a club with lofty ambitions and some of the richest owners in the game, QPR should be able to offer so much more that a meaningless gesture which risks a talented player's health. And I am not talking about the ultimately lucrative contract which Sterling looks set to attract. If QPR invested in an academy rather than a lower-quality centre of excellence, maybe they would have a better chance of holding on to the forward. Maybe then they could convince him he was getting the best chance to develop his talent with the best facilities and highest standards. QPR are way behind many of their London rivals with their youth set-up. They have good people in Steve Gallen and Marc Bircham but they need to put in greater resources, to invest in the future if they are serious about becoming a top club. QPR lost Dean Parrett to Tottenham in similar circumstances a couple of years ago and a youngster's attention is easily grabbed. But Sterling is said to be very level-headed, a result of losing his dad before he was 10. He has been at QPR for five years and has said he would only ever leave for his beloved Chelsea. It is the club's job to convince him he will have a brighter future if he stays with them…and a one-off appearance in the record books just isn't good enough. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1226846/LEOS-LONDON-Forget-breaking-records-QPR-convince-teenage-sensation-Raheem-Sterling-snub-Chelsea-Co.html#ixzz0gqEmTzjy

News of The World
Rangers kid Raheem Sterling signs for the Reds
By Aidan Magee, 27/02/2010
LIVERPOOL have completed the £500,000 signing of QPR teenager Raheem Sterling.
The Reds beat off competition from Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Fulham to sign the striker, who only turned 15 in December.
Liverpool confirmed last night that they have made an initial down payment. The fee will rise, depending on appearances, to a figure believed to be £2million.
Sterling will join up with Liverpool's academy players this week. He has not played a first-team game for Rangers.
The England Under-16 international was a VIP guest at Anfield for Liverpool's win over Manchester United earlier this season. But he was also spoken to by Arsenal's academy director Liam Brady and watched by United's Brian McClair.
City were prepared to offer £1m plus two players to capture Sterling, who has been compared to Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott at that age.
Fulham thought they had struck a £1.5m deal with QPR which would have spared Sterling the trouble of moving home. But Rangers were not keen to sell to their west London neighbours.
Former Rangers boss Jim Magilton was on the verge of giving Sterling his first team debut in December before he was sacked.

Liverpool have dramatically won the race for QPR's young England starlet Raheem Sterling - beating Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham to get him.
The 15-year-old has agreed to join the Kop in a major coup and was finalising the deal yesterday despite rival offers from some of the biggest names in English football.
And it took a personal call from Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish - currently academy director and club ambassador at Anfield - to finally convince Sterling into signing.
Sterling shot to fame after Rangers put him on standby to make his debut - as People Sport first revealed - and the attacking midfielder has thrilled the talent spotters.
Arsenal, Fulham and City all made offers for him and United youth chief Brian McClair was at the last two Rangers youth team games.
But Liverpool, who were always the player's first choice, finally agreed to come up with a deal for him and will pay Rangers around £750,000 up front, rising to more than double if he makes the grade.
United pulled out at the death and insiders in the deal said: "It has all been a bit messy, with various agents trying to get involved. But in the end the kid is going where he wants - and QPR have got a good price."
