Jim Fleming scored all five goals for Rangers as they beat Dundee in the Scottish League. He was their centre-forward between September 1925 and September 1934 and scored 177 goals in 225 matches. His only Scotland cap was against England in 1930.

Stan Anderson signed professional forms with Sunderland. A fine attacking wing-half he remained at Roker Park for 12 years and played in 402 League matches scoring 31 goals. Moved to Newcastle United in November 1963. Anderson gained Under-23 and "B" honours for England but was sent off against Bulgaria and, although considered a harsh decision at the time, this seemed to hinder his consideration for full honours. However he was eventually capped against Austria and Scotland in 1962. After two years with Newcastle he joined Middlesbrough as player-coach.
27 February 1959
Death of Bob McRoberts who was the first professional to be signed by Chelsea. A centre-forward he was transferred from Small Heath (now Birmingham City) for a fee of £100 subject to Chelsea being elected to the Football League. Later converted to centre-half and spent three years at Stamford Bridge appearing 104 times in the League.

Alf Ramsey picked his first England side but it was soundly beaten 5-2 by France in Paris in the European Nations Cup First Round Second Leg. The First Leg had been drawn 1-1 in Sheffield the previous December. Ramsey's team was Springett (Sheffield Wednesday), Armfield (Blackpool), Henry (Tottenham Hotspur), Mooore (West Ham United), Labone (Everton), Flowers (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Connelly (Burnley), Tambling (Chelsea), Smith (Tottenham Hotspur), Greaves (Tottenham Hotspur) and Charlton (Manchester United). Smith and Tambling scored for England while Wisnieski(2), Cossau(2) and Douis scored for France. In fairness few, if any, of the England players were match-fit due to the Arctic conditions which had been prevalent in Britain for two months.
27 February 1967
Death of St Johnstone's young centre-forward John Kilgannon in a car crash. He had made his League debut during the 1965-66 season and had scored 3 goals in 7 First Division matches that season. He played his last game two days earlier against Falkirk and that was his 23rd of a campaign which had seen him score a further seven times.
27 February 1974
Wilf McGuinness who had been appointed as sucessor to Sir Matt Busby at Manchester United resigns from his position at the club. After a poor run of results he had been demoted from manager to second team coach at Christmas.
