Peter Taylor becomes Bradford City manager
Posted on: Wed 17 Feb 2010
After intense media speculation, Bradford City Football Club are delighted to officially announce the appointment of Peter Taylor as the 39th manager of the Bantams.
Taylor beat off competition from several other experienced coaches to land the position, which has been vacant since the departure of City legend Stuart McCall nine days ago.
He will take up the first team reins with immediate effect, with his first match as Bantams boss scheduled to take place at Accrington Stanley this Saturday.
The 57 year old will sign a three month contract at Valley Parade this morning, which will tie him to the football club until the end of the season.
This deal can and will be extended should both parties feel happy with proceedings between now and the conclusion of this current campaign.
The board will however, also still exercise the option of holding interviews with other potential applicants during that period should they see fit.
The highly experienced coach certainly has the necessary League 2 knowledge that both joint-chairmen, Julian Rhodes and Mark Lawn were craving when they initially started the search for McCall's successor last week.
Taylor has guided both Wycombe Wanderers (last season) and Hull City (2003/04 season) to promotion out of the league's basement division.
Those two promotions are part of the five in total Taylor currently has on his impressive C.V.
He also elevated Hull City to the Championship during his time at the KC Stadium, as well as helping Brighton and Hove Albion to the old Division Two (League 1) title in 2001/02 and securing Gillingham safe passage through to the Championship via the Play Offs in 1999/2000.
Taylor also has secured vast amounts of top level experience, both nationally and internationally, under his belt during his 23 years in management so far.
He enjoyed two successful spells as England's Under 21's coach and a single match in charge of the England senior team, where of course he famously handed David Beckham the skipper's armband for the first time.
During a spell at Leicester City's Filbert Street, Taylor also managed the Foxes in the Premiership.
Taylor will be formally introduced to the squad this morning before turning to the main task in hand - improving City's poor recent form of only one win from nine matches.
The board and staff of Bradford City would like to take this opportunity to wish Peter every success in his new role at the football club and ask all Bradford supporters to give the new management team their full support.
