Remembering this signing... On this day, thirty-six years ago: October 19, 1972: QPR signed the Great Dave Thomas... for a QPR and Division Two Record transfer fee of 165,000 - at the time when the English transfer fee was 200,000 pounds what we got for Marsh (or 225,000 pounds about that... The deal came just a day or two after Martyn Busby had broken -had broken! - his leg at Fulham (I think it was Paul Want) Thomas had been called the best young player in Europe; Don Revie's Leeds had been linked to him. It was a massive, massive signing (far bigger than the Bowles) - and comparatively I'd say perhaps the most ambitious signing we ever made. I vividly remember the big headline on the Evening Standard "Billboard" : London Club in 165,000 pound transfer deal. Gordon Jago and Jim Gregory showed great, great bravery to make this signing - Anyone think of a more ambitious signing?

I was at the Fulham game when Buzzer broke his leg. I think it was an evening game and it was ex Orient Paul Went a big lump of a centre half that did him. It was a terrible injury to a guy who was becoming an outstanding player. He was not the same player when he returned to the game some year and half later.

Dave Thomas has always been my all time number 1. As a kid I think I spent more time being him than he did.

because dave was an orthordox winger people forget he also could score goals and in the great runners up season he scored twelve goals which was a terrific effort

Jumpers for goalposts eh! We all used to run around the pitch with our socks rolled down pretending to be Thomas or Bowles as well. Doing our own commentary when we got the ball!
