I've just posted my comment about this on the transfer thread.
Could he face his old club next Saturday?

Seems an odd one. Shodipo is expected to go out on loan but then he hasn't been needed because injured for most of season although on the bench lately so a place available in the match day squad. Could we be covering ourselves in case a late bid comes in for Eze that we cannot turn down??? Or could be aiming for loaning Clarke for whole of next season and using the rest of the season to sell this to him, as no doubt he will go on loan next season to the Championhip. Can't see him getting in Spurs squad next year, he barely plays for Leeds, so jury out as not seen enough of him. However Spurs paid a decent fee for him so must be some talent in there. We do lack genuine pace in attack other than BOS so this gives us another option either at the start or off the bench.

My daughter is taught maths by his brother and apparently we enquired after him last week.

Agreed, we're going to have to get used to being a selling club... Oh, and welcome back 75

But do we really want a loan signing to block our own young players coming through?
I am thinking of the young player who came on at the end of the Cup Game v Swansea - Dalling. He only played for a few minutes but looked like he had some skill.
Maybe we are about to sell - Eze or perhaps BOS?
I don’t know much about Clarke but he only played 22 games for Leeds before he was sold for £10 million? What price does that make Eze?

I think Eze is being lined up to go to the Prem, probably Spurs for 10-20 Million Was talk we get two Spurs players in the deal, probably Amos and another. Clarke is rated very very highly at Spurs ,astonished if they ever sold him.

Dalling is probably nowhere near a regular first team place yet.

Stupid signing, we do not need him. I really cannot work toastman out. Sign them young on loan , if they prove to be any good get them on a cheap transfer, develop them and sell at a profit. That's the the name of the game for us now as it was for many years in the past. Not sure why it's so difficult to understand. It will happen with Eze , probably Chair and a few others maybe in this window. The choice is sell to survive or go out of business - plus the likes of Pugh are not getting younger, BOS has not signed an extension yet. Worthwhile low cost gamble on someone who will not be breaking into Spuds team in the near future. Agree with the general logic - buying cheap, developing and selling for profit is 100% where we are - but don't think that exactly matches the Clarke scenario here. Or at least, not quite as clearly. Spurs spent around 10 million quid on Clarke and he is contracted until 2023. A potential make weight in a future deal? Maybe. But can't see him coming cheap to us or anyone else if he does well here, unless it is some kind of part exchange (something Amos figures into, too). Take an Eze deal out of the equation and this is us looking after a Spurs asset. A good one, one who may do well for us, but this isn't a trial to a cheap signing scenario on its own. It could be as bloody minded as Jack Clarke being a highly rated player, we have a chance to have him, so we think...why not? As many managers have said in the past, if you get the chance of adding an affordable and high quality player to your squad, you do it - shifting bodies about you figure out later. Not saying I agree, I just see the argument. As Harr implies, if it's buttering us up for a move on Eze, perhaps Spurs are happy to risk him playing less if it solidifies the ongoing good trading relationship between us? Who knows. Do agree with others that a winger (who can also play up top, to be fair) wouldn't be on my temporary shopping list. I don't think it is as mad as social media is making out, just because 1) We dunno who may go before the end of the window and 2) Smith goes back, Shodipo is fresh back from injury, and Pugh was never intended as an investment, so Clarke may not be quite as surplus as we think. Lil thing on BOS - he hasn't yet signed an extension but we do have an option to extend him for another year, so that isn't as big a deal as it looks. The important thing, other than the overall financial logic that we're supposed to be following (and I presume we are), is that the window is still open. For all we know, this might be a loan signing that will make more sense if there are more comings or goings in the next week or so. A loaned winger doesn't mean we aren't pursuing other things. We know MW is desperate for a centre half cos we tried to bid £3m for one not long ago. We ain't as leaky as we used to be, that's for sure, so it is isnt easy to know until it happens.

Agree with the comments above, on the face of it it is an odd signing and not the obvious priority. Another way of looking at it though is that apart from BOS, our back up wingers all need game time and we cannot afford for that to be in the first team. Shadipo has had a lot of injuries and needs a loan and regular football. Smyth has not been playing regularly for Wycombe due to injury. Hopefully both can compete next season. But our better performances have been when we have played with pace and that usually means BOS. If he were to get injured, we would lose a key attribute, so perhaps it is an astute move to ensure options. Agree also that w do not know what else is really going on. But tightening our relationship with Spurs and their new manager seems to make sense. If 2 loans go back - I expect another loan to follow.

Pleased Warburton's got someone he wants, but really not sure this position was a necessity.
I suspect it's part of a bigger plan regarding Eze and his possible move to Spurs, if not in January, then in the summer.

This may not have been our most highly-prioritised signing but you can't always get the signing you want when want. MW has explained why he'll be a useful addition and it makes sense to me. January is harder to get the signings you want so we may not be able to get anyone else in, but this certainly is far from a senseless signing. Particularly if Chair, BOS or Eze get injured in Feb or March, and Shodipo goes out on loan to get more game time elsewhere.

Dalling is probably nowhere near a regular first team place yet. I agree but it would have been nice to have seen him on the bench - I don’t see where Clarke fits in unless one of our players is about to leave - if no player leaves he could be blocking game time for Chair or BOS.

As MW says it’s all about having a bit of cover and this lad has goals all about his game. In some areas we are quite frail, we get an injury and are very exposed in this League, it gives us better options. I’m fine with it for 5 months, makes sense, good to have competition.
