Actually it was before that. toward the end of the war my Dad would close the Barber shop and we would go and see football games for the reserves in the old Football Combination.
A lot of other players like Ted Reay and players on leave from army would play. Thrilling for this young lad at that time. In those war ridden days, the ref would have to man the anti aircraft gun
if an air raid. Also would hold Alf Ridyards teeth in his pocket til after match.

Well Done London Ranger! Certainly beats me. Mine was Sept 1957 Loftus Rd v Brighton Div.3 South lost 1-0 Springett(R) Ingham Woods Angell Rutter Petchey. Finney Longbottom Smith Andrews(A) Kerrins. No chance of my Father taking me to the game He was a solid Fulham supporter. I went with one of my school friends and his Dad. Pat Kerrins with the Teddy Boy Haircut made an impression ....and as Prime minister Harold Macmillan said to me at the time...You've never had it so Good!
