There is of course a lot of ‘magic’ associated with the number 10 shirt at QPR. I grew up with the Rodney and Stanley pure gold times.
Marsh, Bowles, Wegerle and more recently Taarabt have graced the shirt. Now we have Eze who is already worthy of the number 10 IMHO and I hope he stays so that we can enjoy even more.
But QPR has not always maintained the standard. We have had 8 recipients of said Number Ten since 2000: Carl Connolly, Gallen, Buzsaky, Bothroyde, Taarabt, Fer, Goss & Eze. Four from the eight were worthy in my book. I guess Goss was the low point!
But what about the other shirt numbers?
Well number 7 has not been great in the period (since 2000): Murray, Wardley, Rose, Bolder, Routledge, Bent, Taarabt, Ji Sung Park, Phillips, Borysiuk, Freeman and now Pugh. Two from 12 stand out for me.
The number 8 shirt usually means trouble or injury for QPR. Since 2000:
Peacock, Bircham, Vine, Dyer, Johnson, Barton, Chery, Cousins & Amos.
We have had nine number one keepers in the period (although not necessarily first choice!)
To relive the boredom of the International break, you are welcome to try and name them!

These come to mind... Chris Day, Radek Cerny (was he number 1?), Lee Camp, Paddy Kenny, Rob Green, Alex Smithies and Joe Lumley...

I will chuck in Simon Royce & the 'keeper when we were relegated to the third tier. I think we signed him from West Ham, but his name escapes me!
Another one is a 'keeper we signed from manure, but again, his name escapes me & he was often injured.

I (mis)remembered Derren Brown predicting penalty kick placements with Chris Day - it was in fact with Marc Bircham. Great (spooky) video here:

Yep, you are almost there. Simon Royce correct and Ludo Miklosko from West Ham. The one you missed was...........Matt Ingram! But much, much harder is to name the 12 players to be allocated the number 9 shirt since 2000. Try that one! How long until our football returns?

Before this season we've only had two since 2000, but I'm willing to accept Hugill as out third number nine! Just Furlong & Helguson otherwise & it would appear that nine others have masqueraded in that shirt!

Don't disagree with that sentiment looking down the list! Furlong was number 29 - So 2 only! But how could you leave out Charlie Austin?

Conor Washington Which club is he playing for now? Yep, that takes us to 4. 8 to go. Conor signed for Hearts but has been out injured for the bulk of the time with hamstring injuries. Sad really, because if he loses his pace through injury, he does not have much else in the locker.

Obviously I didn't mean to include him in those I "questioned"! I was also being unfair to Thompson, Blackstock & Polter if they wore the number nine.

Polter was 17 and 33 - never got the 9 shirt even though he fitted the bill better than several others. Thompson not in the period. So we have: 1) Hugill 2) Washington 3) 4) 5) Helgusson 6) Blackstock 7) 8) Thorpe 9) 10) 11) 12) Number 12 is too tough though - Mikel Ngonge - I cannot even remember him playing for us!

I'm sure that Andy Thompson came on as a sub at Cardiff in the play off final & hit the post. He had started in the match against Oldham. EDIT I've cheated by checking this & Thompson had a numberr in the twenties. I was surprised who wore the number nine shirt, but he can be added to those I was unfair to in disparaging them!

For the rcord..... Mikel Ngonge was purchased from Watford for £50k. He played 15 times for QPR scoring 3 goals. He left us for the mighty Kilmarnock and retired a year later. He is now 52 years old. Still can't remember him!

I know two of the missing names, but i can't mention them as my knowledge is due to Wikepedia!
To help Ashdown though, 10 or 11 came through our youth ranks & was a good player. 8 was a midfield player who didn't stay for too long, but was a full international who we signed as a possible world superstar. His game went down under with us!
Back to guesses. Would Andy Johnson have worn 9? Other possibilities are Cisse & Remy.
I'm really struggling with the other one fron the early 2,ooo's!

He was doing well until he picked up a long term injury - befitting the number 8. Number 10 did indeed come through our ranks - I met him a couple of times. Another good player who was crocked by injury. Think he left us for Luton. Number 11 was a Swedish International who played for QPR in 2000. We acquired him from Bradford City.

So the other 3: 4) 2012 Mark Hughes Purchase - a complete nutcase! 5) 2011 Purchased from Blackpool - signed for QPR the team he had always supported since a boy 8) 2005 - Purchased from Wolves - made only 11 appearances due to injury - left us for Kidderminster plus 10) did indeed come through our ranks - I met him a couple of times. Another good player who was crocked by injury. Think he left us for Luton. 11) was a Swedish International who played for QPR in 2000. We acquired him from Bradford City. I also left one off the list. We also gave the number 9 shirt to the mighty Australian Nick Ward who played 20 times for us. So there were 13 number 9s this century.

Ricky, according to Wiki we had an Australian wear the number nine shirt in season 2006/07. He left us to play for Perth Glory.

Complete list of our number nine shirts this century. 13 in 20 years. I think Austin was the best by some way. But generally, quite a poor list. Hugill Washington Austin Cisse DJ Campbell Helgusson Blackstock Ward Sturridge Thorpe Langley Steiner Ngonge

Blimey, Nick Ward... what great (and wholly unjustified/unfulfilled) expectations we all had of him when he arrived!
I think his main concern was not ruffling his golden flowing locks too badly during a match...
