So with the season ahead of us, beginning in just over a week, where are peoples thoughts on what the future holds for this club of ours.
I read on social media the excitement for the new season and how the new signings will be the difference between Promotion and Relegation. Am I in a minority as I don't feel that is the case. I can't say I hold out much hope for the season ahead, and believe me I really hope I am wrong. My concerns? Well we have signed a number of players on loan. I understand we don't really have the money for many signings but is it not better to play players who have a vested interest in the clubs well-being and not those that can think "well at least I won't be here next season".
I know the the finances are what they are, but does that really mean we have to sell players like Furlong? Someone I had real hopes of being a set right back this year, or even centre back. Someone with the club in his blood so to speak. And no space in the last friendly squad (vs. Watford) for Luongo? I hear we are trying to offload him, fine I understand that, but whilst he's here is it not better to play him? He's been one of our standouts for the last few seasons. I also read Tony Leistner is on his way as he doesn't fit Warburton's belief of what a defender should be. I'd argue he's been fairly solid and lest we forget a captain!
I fear that we will be playing short passing football out from the back, and frankly we are not good enough to do that. Lest we forget Hall is held together by matchsticks, and I really dislike how many new players we are trying to integrate into a starting eleven.
Don't get me wrong, I don't expect us to be winning the league or even the playoffs, but all I want is a mid-table finish and to be entertained. I (and I fear I may be in the minoirty on this) felt we were making real progress under Holloway and Bircham, and worry that we are always one step forward and two steps back.
Thoughts?

I get you scepticism, with so many disappointing years behind us it's tough to even consider us doing well this season for many reasons including pretty much an entire new team, key players leaving or due to leave, a change in manger, playing style, etc.
Promotion this season? Not a chance, we will need a good few games to find ourselves and I think even with Hughill we are still goal shy. Relegation, I really don't think . We are now an unknown quantity and for the first couple of months teams are going to have to try and work us out. I think we have a team that puts us around lower mid table.
Personally I am a lot more confident about this season than I was a few weeks back. There is a brilliant post on another thread that sums up the closed season so well in terms of achievements of goals FFP, Lowering wages, etc.

I am personally excited by the season ahead (but I am most seasons to be fair)! I like the strategy of the current player purchasing and really like the fact that we didn’t get bullied by Ipswich rather went a got a (better in my opinion) alternative. With some exciting youngsters both promoted from the u23’s and signed as well as for a 1st time for a long term we are selling players for a fee (in most cases gaining a profit) the future seems to be one of optimism for what lays ahead. I hope Chair and Shodipo both get some playing time and make a positive impact.
Here’s to hopefully an exciting enjoyable season ahead - come on you R’s

I'm optimistic we can avoid a relegation battle but the league gets harder each year and you just never know who is going to do well. Always a surprise package and no one would have thought, this time last year, that Norwich and Sheff Utd would go up automatic. History says we are a low end Championship team, and other than the two promotion years under Warnock and Redknapp, we have never looked like play off/promotion contenders in any of the other seasons. However I am hoping for better football, more fight particularly in away games, and the chance for our own youngish players to get another season under their belts. Amos is a class signing, absolute quality to get him if over his bad injury, and I think Chair might well dislodge Eze if given the chanec in the No 10 role, and surprise many. He seems a much more game effective player and more potential but under Warburton perhaps he can find room for both of them to shine. Concerned about the goals so we need our defence to improve from last season, but I expect our midfield to contribute towards more goals than they have done in the past. Would be great to see one of them get into double figures.

I don't have a problem with players coming in on loan - remember Kyle Walker! Yes there have been disappointments with loans but successes as well.

The wonderful thing about the Championship is that, almost every season, no one knows who the promoted teams are going to be at the start of the season.
The season we went up as Champions no one remotely suspected, on the eve of the season starting, that we would walk it. Yet we won it in style and not one expert saw it coming.
As hitman said above, last season no one saw Norwich winning the division. Even their most passionate fans would have been sectioned if they’d gone on the Norwich fans websites and dared to suggest that they’d win the league, or that the Celtic flop they plucked from the ever popular Danish League who’d only scored 7 goals for the hooped men in 26 appearances would turn out to be a 25+ goal a season Championship striker.
I have no idea what’s going to happen in the Championship this season, but I’m willing to bet on one thing. Virtually every experts predictions you’ll read in the next few days and every simulated final league table will end up being completely and utterly wrong.
So, sit back and watch the drama unfold.
I think we’re gonna be ok.

I think we’re gonna be ok. I've l;ooked at every club & honestly can't find any team to win it this season. However, I'm told one of the twenty four will! The only side that I could say will be promoted is Leeds. BUT we all know they explode evry year. So who will come out of the pack? Blackburn? At least we would have a reason for our bad results against them! Who will be the Huddersfield of three years ago? Four young important loanees (two from C******a, one from City & one from Liverpool) & not a proper goalscorer in sight!. They had even sold their (supposedly) best defender that summer. That player has moved on this summer as well! Remind you of any club for this season?

I think we like the Championship and it’s a great league. But hey let’s not kid ourselves , if we got a squad settled in the Premiership for 8-10 Years , like Fulham, Bolton, Stoke , Swansea and others did and are doing, I think we would enjoy it. Remember our team of the 90’s in the Prem , must have loved those years in the top flight surely... they were fantastic years. Biggest problem is we have been put off of the Prem recently due to us getting so much wrong which made us a laughing stock.
I hope one day we might get there again but do things differently, in the meantime I enjoy the Championship.

The reality is that this season is a bigger step into the unknown than I can ever remember. I think that was has been achieved is incredible and full marks to Lee Hoos who has masterminded this now that he is in control. If it is correct that we can afford to bid for McKenna then that is quite astonishing, but it is presumably based on detailed cash forecasting. It is not that hard to calculate given that we have all but completed our business, pretty much know our outgoings and the income is pretty predictable. I have been saying for years, why do football clubs not do basic cash forecasting. Buying a player would be a big statement that we are truly turning the corner....at last. Hate it that we had to lose Furlong, but Kane is pretty similar in style and probably wages - then we bank £1.5m towards buying another asset. So good business, but some of the charm lost. But this rebuild has all been done from a playing perspective that is all about Warburton. Acquiring players that he wanted / knew, to play in a way that he demands. So, if we are adrift at the bottom, then it is imperative that we keep our nerve and support the club, players and most of all keep the manager. Even if we have got it all wrong, changing the manager on anything other than health grounds in the next 12-18 months would destroy all that progress as we would start all over again. So my expectation is 'bumpy' but encouraging. We have cover for all positions, so hopefully players will all get their chance and there will be competition for all places. I am not sure if we have sufficient goals in the squad, but I remain optimistic that we do. So, glass half full for me. Bring it on!
