QPR: Lumley, Furlong, Hall, Lynch, Bidwell, Osayi-Samuel, Luongo, Scowen, Freeman, Wells, Smith. Subs: Ingram, Leistner, Wszolek, Manning, Cousins, Eze, Hemed. This is disgraceful stuff just like WBA , four straight defeats and could well be 5,6,7 in a couple weeks ... Defence needs Rangel, never been same since he got injured.

Nahki Wells misses a penalty at 90 and 3 mins over. Game will soon be over, if it isn't already.

This was a bonkers game.
The first half whilst we weren't that good we weren't that bad. We had as many chances as Brum......they took them we didn't. Did I feel it 'atrocious'.....no. A bit sad but one of those halves.
Leitner made a huge difference at half time and the goals either side of the half made for one of the most exciting second halves at LR for a while.
Not only could it have been 4-4 had we not missed the penalty, we should and could have won it in the second half. Had it been 6-4 to Rangers whilst it sounds bonkers it was probably about the right score.

As I said earlier, Leistner should have played the whole match. McLaren is a bit soft.

Don’t think we have played Smith enough this season.

Don’t think we have played Smith enough this season. Unfortunately Smith is part of the problem. He is not mobile enough to play up top on his own and so needs a second forward to work alongside him. To facilitate that we played a 4-4-2 in the first half which rarely serves us well. That formation does not offer sufficient protection for our centre-backs and Lynch, in particular, was exposed today. He is great in the air and will head away crosses all day long, but attack him on the ground and his fallibility is cruelly revealed. Lynch was turned far too easily for their first goal (although Lumley has to share the blame) and their second goal came straight through the middle of the pitch. The half time substitutions changed the formation to 3-5-2 and we were much stronger as a result and started to dominate the midfield and control the match. To incorporate Wszolek's introduction for Lynch, Furlong assumed a role in the back three and Pawel played as right wing back. These were all good substitutions and should have paid off but we missed a few solid chances and took a poor penalty. Having seen pictures of the Birmingham player's ridiculous encroachment for our penalty it clearly should have been re-taken but that would have taken our focus away from how poor we were in the first half and why we should never, never play 4-4-2 with our current squad.

Great assessment Roller, once the euphoria has died down, relegation dogfights are still possible if we don't start winning soon. The first half performance was every bit as bad as the West Brom one and Shipping 8 goals in two league home games is really cause for concern.

Spot On Roller. Smith played well yesterday, but for him to play well we seem to need a 4-4-2 set-up and we sacrifice the defensive cover position. Yesterday was crazy, but thrilling. Brum had 5 first half shots on target and scored 4. Che Adams has developed into one of the best strikers in the division and our set up gave him plenty of scope to exploit Lynch's key vulnerability. Lynch obliged with the sort of game that can easily happen without cover. I think that Hall and BFG is a better combination. But I thought that the ref was awful yesterday - including the penalty whereby Birmingham players were almost ahead of the ball when it was kicked. But he also ignored other penalty shouts that looked pretty clear cut. I had to get away sharp after the game so watched injury time on the TV downstairs - so I had the benefit of several replays for the foul and the penalty. Poor penalty but should have been retaken, but how often does that ever happen now? Seems like time wasting, it is another rule that can be exploited at will.
