Given all the different factors of the supposed pending deals I am not confident that we will get Martin or Sainsbury and definitely think we will not get Hugill. I did hear a rumour that a young CB called Trevor Aldi was going cheap though, and just as good as the better known and expensive Sainsbury guy. We are also on the track of a goal scorer called Ian Lidl I hear.

Queens Park Rangers target Trent Sainsbury has been on their radar for many months, according the Championship club’s director of football Les Ferdinand. UPDATEDUPDATED 14 HOURS AGO The Hoops powerbroker also received a glowing endorsement of Sainsbury from another Australian and R’s fans favourite Massimo Luongo, as the bid to sign the defender either permanently or on loan heats up. Ferdinand and new coach Steve McClaren view the 26-year-old stopper as a critical piece of their defensive jigsaw, and are hoping to have a deal done in time for next week’s opening game of the new season away to Preston North End. And ahead of the August 9 transfer deadline. But with Sainsbury’s Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning playing hardball over the financial terms of his release - and QPR hamstrung by Financial Fair Play issues - the proposed move to London is at a critical point. “We’re certainly very interested and he’s somebody that we like and would suit the way Steve McClaren wants to play,” Ferdinand told The World Game. “He’s still on contract in China of course (Sainsbury has five months left but has been told to train with the reserves). “We are waiting on information on that ... and if a deal is able to be done, we will do it. Socceroos Trent Sainsbury Jiangsu Suning Sainsbury's hopes of European move in doubt “I understand that his agent (Tony Rallis) is working on that (the terms of a contract release) at this moment. We are looking at all the logistics around this. “Trent is somebody we’ve been interested in for a while now and we were able to have a closer look at him during the World Cup. “Our remit is to look at players in the final year of their contracts, and we’ve been concentrating on defenders. “He’s one who was flagged to us ... We did our homework and we feel he’d fit the playing system the manager is putting in place here. “Steve McClaren wants to play out from the back and Trent suits that way of playing.” Ferdinand also sought the counsel of Luongo, who loudly sung Sainsbury’s praises. “I spoke to Mass, who obviously knows him well and he has been pretty impressed with him and gave us a good report there,” added Ferdinand. “We think he’d be a good addition to our squad.” The Hoops have lost experienced defenders Nedum Onuoha, James Perch and Jack Robinson since the end of last season, and with Darnell Furlong also out with a long-term knee injury have so far made just one signing in the current transfer window. Due to their obligations to comply with ongoing FFP edicts they are looking mainly at free transfers, loan signings and bargain acquisitions - and hoping that Sainsbury comes under that umbrella. Whether Jiangsu - who want in excess of $1 million for Sainsbury - are willing to budge will be determined in the coming days. Sainsbury has made 34 league appearances since joining them from PEC Zwolle in 2016, and has had previous loan spells with Inter Milan and Grasshopper of Zurich. theworldgame.sbs.com.au/sainsbury-s-been-a-long-time-target-says-qpr-boss

From fox sports news in Australia. Inching closer?! www.foxsports.com.au/football/path-clear-for-sainsbury-to-join-qpr-after-the-english-club-settled-a-financial-dispute/news-story/80446e0ba295644654993ce8dd6ec257Path clear for Sainsbury to join QPR after the English club settled a financial disputeJuly 28, 2018 12:34pm SOCCEROOS defender Trent Sainsbury is a step closer to joining Queens Park Rangers after the English Championship outfit settled their financial dispute with the English Football League. The Hoops have reached a settlement worth almost $66 million following a four-year legal battle with the English Football League over a breach of spending limits. Under the agreement, manager Steve McClaren will be banned from registering new players in this season’s winter transfer window. This may open the way for QPR to act now for Sainsbury, who has been in talks with the club after the departures of first-choice centre halves Jack Robinson and Nedum Onuoha. The club’s No.5 jersey has been left vacant, giving the biggest hint yet that the arrival of the Socceroo may be imminent. If the deal does go through, Sainsbury will join close mate and fellow Australian Massimo Luongo at the Hoops. Last October, an arbitration panel ruled QPR’s fine of $74 million for overspending during the 2013-14 season that saw them promoted to the Premier League was not disproportionate. The west London club lodged an appeal against the decision and a hearing was scheduled to start earlier this month but, in a joint statement, the parties have announced they have reached an agreement to effectively restructure the fine. QPR will now pay the league $30 million for the Financial Fair Play breach and $5 million for the league’s legal costs, and a payment schedule that the Press Association understands to be 10 years has been agreed. The balance of the original fine, $39 million, will be swallowed by QPR’s owners by converting outstanding loans to the club into shares. Crucially for the club, none of these payments to the EFL will be taken into account when calculating the amounts QPR are allowed to spend on players and wages in the coming seasons.

Is that just an assumption things will move on though ?
Alan Nixon said the fee is a stumbling block at the minute and QPR have gone away so far... Maybe we will go back in a day or two and call their bluff. China playing hardball ?

I assume what is meant by the fee no longer being a stumbling block is that with FFP resolved we can again spend money (obviously within the FFP rules) and that this could mean we may now be willing to pay the Aus $1.5 million asking price (about 850,000 pounds).

I know nothing but fear there could well be some truth in the Freeman story. Some sources reporting that WBA and Middlesborough want him. Sounds like we could be talking up the price to boro with other interest. I really like Freeman, but he was so much more effective in the centre when we were playing 3 at the back. He was the one who lost out when we successfully switched to a back 4 whereby he was often out on the right wing. He was unhappy at Bristol because he was played on the wing. We have a lot of midfielders at the club and the lessons of last week suggest we have to sell on a regular basis now. If we get ÂŁ3m for him that would be 6 times what we paid for him. If Sainsbury is joining then perhaps Luongo is staying for now. We miss Luongo more than we miss Freeman. Just hope that Freeman does not have to be sacrificed for Chris Martin.

If Waghorn is worth 8Million , Freeman’s worth the same.
Or on the principal of us paying 8 Million for Mutch, he is worth 16 .
Cant we tell Boro that Cousins is the better player....

Instead of Freeman, offer them Washington and as a free bonus, they can have Sylla too.

I guess that's what is so frustrating with the market. If you don't need to sell, you can play hard ball with clubs who clearly have money to burn. Meanwhile people know we need to bring in players but cannot do so without flogging off others. Doesn't mean we should be put over a barrel but a Luke Freeman playing for QPR is 'worth' a lot less than a Luke Freeman playing for, say, Derby or Forest - even if he was at the exact same age, form and quality. Mutch is yet another player we can add to the long list of personnel who looked fantastic elsewhere then absolutely nose-dived with us. Such a massive disappointment for what I thought was a really good signing on paper. I'd agree with Ricky that I'd hate Freeman to leave but he's probably the midfielder we can most afford to lose. Not being blasé about his impact, cos he's a fantastic player and I'd be gutted to lose him. But if we're setting up in 4-2-3-1 and Freeman is being shifted out wide, it's harder to accommodate him while keeping Eze in the number 10 position. Would also mean a potentially huge season for Osayi-Samuel. I also keep forgetting that Wheeler is back and fit again, so that's another attacking-midfield option.

It would be disappointing to sell Freeman for £3 million to 'boro or West Brom, but I agree with Bow that he is the most replaceable of last seasons midfield trio. To be in the side this season Freeman has to accept playing wide or removing Scowen or Luongo from their roles. Personally, I can't see Freeman in either role & I will be amazed if Eze was to lose his central position. I see Manning as competition for Luongo & both of those players as the only alternatives to Scowen. However, we have Smyth, Wheeler & Pavel who could play a wide role for us. IF Freeman is to go, hopefully having two clubs interested in him will increase his price. If he is still with us in two weeks time (as I expect) we have proper competition for places in our team.

I think he’s the one that looks forward and sets our tempo ... you say Eze only in 10 role but Freeman there and Eze wide would scare most teams to death !
I probably rate his importance more as when we run out of ideas , he’s the one that makes things happen .

I probably rate his importance more as when we run out of ideas , he’s the one that makes things happen . That's a good point - he has been that spark of inspiration when we've looked a bit lost in games. Fearless in taking players on, for better or worse, and can actually take a set piece which is something we'd previously been lacking. So that would end up being a loss too. Not sure on Eze out wide mind. Think his strengths lie in playing behind the striker and picking passes and running at defenders. If we've got Smith or Sylla up top as the '1', you need width and good delivery and there's probably better than him at that aspect of the game in the squad.

Eze needs to play in the middle, not out wide. He will win lots of free kicks. Not so hard to defend if they are near the side line, even when Smith is on.

From Dave Mac of WLS. Sense www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-qpr-freeman-west-brom-middlesbrough-linkedTransfer gossip: Albion and Boro linked with FreemanBy David McIntyre 29/07/2018 A look at some of the recent transfer speculation involving QPR… West Bromwich Albion want to sign Luke Freeman, according to the Sunday People. The QPR midfielder is among several players West Brom have been linked with since their relegation from the Premier League. Middlesbrough are also said to be interested in Freeman, who has impressed since moving to west London from Bristol City in January 2017. Is there anything in it?So far there has been no sign of any concrete interest in Freeman – or any other Rangers player this summer with the exception of Alex Smithies, who joined Cardiff. Freeman is ambitious and QPR, who are well aware of this, would certainly consider an offer for him if it potentially paved the way for them to reinvest in the squad. Even after the recent sale of goalkeeper Smithies, Rangers remain close to their Financial Fair Play limit and are therefore still looking primarily at loans and free transfers. Another player sale is probably needed in order for that to change. The Sunday People say Freeman is rated at £3m. QPR would hope for higher offers than that and, in the event of an approach being made, intend to point to statistics from last season which compare him favourably with Fulham’s Tom Cairney, who was touted as being worth around £20m prior to recently signing a new contract. Incidentally though, even £3m would represent a substantial profit made on a player signed for £350,000 just 18 months ago. That cheap acquisition was possible because Freeman had just six months remaining on his contract and made it clear he would not sign a new deal, leaving Bristol City facing a choice between accepting a low offer or losing him for nothing at the end of that season. QPR will not want his market value to similarly drop during his time with them. Freeman, 26, is under contract until 2020. Is Hugill heading to Rangers?Leeds United want to sign Jordan Hugill on loan from West Ham but face a battle with QPR, The Sun recently declared. It came after reports the R’s are leading a race for the former Preston man and are favourites to sign him. QPR were interested in Hugill when he was at Preston and believed they were making progress with a bid to sign him for around £1.3m before bids from several other clubs led to his market value massively increasing and he eventually joined West Ham for £9m. They have made enquiries about taking him on loan from the Hammers, as have several other clubs – including Leeds. The loan fee would be a stumbling block for Rangers as it stands. There is a feeling within QPR that West Ham might sell Hugill rather than loan him out, which would definitely put him out of Rangers’ reach. On the flip side, as Hugill has now relocated to the south east, there is a feeling that a loan move to another London club might make sense for all parties. At the moment, though, completing a deal for Derby’s Chris Martin is QPR boss Steve McClaren’s priority in the quest to bring in a striker. Did QPR miss out on Eyoma?Football.London have claimed QPR missed out on the signing of Aaron Eyoma after he joined Derby County from Arsenal. West London Sport revealed in January that the winger, 20, had joined the R’s on trial. Rangers, with several wingers already on their books, decided not to pursue Eyoma. However, he was then among a host of players Get West London subsequently linked with a move to Loftus Road, as were more of the many other trialists Rangers had briefly looked at. Still searching for a new club, Eyoma later impressed during a trial with Derby. With the Rams having now brought him in, Football.London claimed QPR were beaten to his signing by Derby. Is Huntingdon a target? The Sun reported that QPR are set to launch a bid for Preston defender Paul Huntington. McClaren was said to be planning to offer £1m for the 30-year-old centre-back. The Sun reported that Huntington has a year remaining on his contract at Deepdale and declared “McClaren is poised to land him on a cut-price deal.” Huntington, who previously had spells at Newcastle and Leeds, missed just two league games for Preston last season and The Sun reported that McClaren wants him for his experience. Signing an experienced centre-back with leadership qualities is a priority for QPR, particularly because of the departure of Nedum Onuoha, and Huntington is among many players they enquired about prior to signing German defender Toni Leistner. Keen to use the Bosman ruling to their advantage, Rangers have particularly targeted players who have a year or less remaining on their contract and have indicated that they will not sign a new deal – an approach which led to the signings of Josh Scowen, Freeman and now Leistner, for example. Even though the club has been reducing its budget, QPR are still in a position to offer higher wages than some Championship clubs. However, Huntington’s Preston contract includes an option to extend it by a further 12 months, meaning he is effectively under contract for two more years. With that being the case, Preston are seemingly in a position to expect significantly more than £1m for him, so QPR have been looking elsewhere

He did show a lot of discipline yesterday and valiantly remained in his position. He did allow himself one diagonal cross field run behind the Union Berlin defence and was superbly found by (who was it Terry?) which almost resulted in a goal. I'm pretty sure that Chris Martin is injured at the moment, so hopefully any deal for him is currently non-starter.

Wigan Athletic head coach Paul Cook has told Wigan Todaythat both James Perch and Ross Wallace’s trials have ended and they won’t be signing with the club. Both Perch and Wallace were free agents this summer and have been looking to get a contract this summer. Perch, a 32-year-old midfielder who can also play in defence, is familiar to Wigan fans after a two-year stint with the club that started back in 2013. He is free to find a new club after being released by QPR. Wallace, a 33-year-old winger, knows Lancashire well after spells with Preston North End and Burnley. He was released by Sheffield Wednesday this summer. Recently, both Perch and Wallace went on trial with Wigan as they looked to get a contract with the Latics. Not only have they been training with the team but they have also competed in friendly matches against Tranmere Rovers and Chesterfield. They were able to beat Tranmere 2-1 but ended up drawing 1-1 with Chesterfield. Unfortunately, neither Perch or Wallace was able to impress enough to earn a contract and Cook has now confirmed that both have left the club. When asked following Wigan’s 3-0 loss to Rangers, he said: “They’ve left the club, and we wish them well,” “We just keep going…I know where the questions are going here and I’m not going to go there!” Wigan’s 3-0 loss against Rangers marked the final game of their pre-season campaign. They take on Sheffield Wednesday in the first game of the Sky Bet Championship season next week the72.co.uk/111681/wigan-athletic-gives-update-former-newcastle-united-midfielder-ex-sheffield-wednesday-wingers-trials-club/

www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/07/30/report-sheffield-united-make-move-for-queens-park-rangers-luke-f/Report: Sheffield United make move for Queens Park Rangers' Luke Freeman Sheffield United are the latest club linked with the Queens Park Rangers player, after Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion. Sheffield United 'have made a move' for Queens Park Rangers attacking midfielder Luke Freeman, according to the Daily Mirror (July 29, liveblog entry 21:35). The newspaper also credited Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion with interest over the weekend, although United's appears to be more developed. The Blades are looking to strengthen in Freeman's position after selling David Brooks to Bournemouth earlier in the window. And QPR may cash in on the 26-year-old, according to the Daily Mirror - which claimed in a separate report that he is valued at ÂŁ3 million. Given their Brooks' windfall, Sheffield United should have little trouble funding Freeman's transfer, although it is possible that Middlesbrough and West Brom could trump them on wages. SEE ALSO: Report: ÂŁ3m QPR man wanted by West Brom after links to league rivals Middlesbrough may also have a Freeman-shaped vacancy to fill, having seen Jack Harrison and Lewis Baker return to their parent clubs since the end of last season - while they could yet lose Adama Traore to West Brom's local rivals, Wolves, according to reports.

From WLS - Dave Mac
McClaren insists he doesn’t have to sell as West Brom, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United are linked with QPR star
Steve McClaren has insisted he does not need to sell players despite QPR’s Financial Fair Play dispute finally being settled. Rangers, initially ordered to pay a £42m fine, will instead pay £17m after reaching an agreement with the EFL following years of legal wrangling.
The fine plus the conversion of £22m of directors’ loans into equity has led to reports that Rangers must cough up around £40m and speculation that they could be forced to sell players.
Luke Freeman was linked with West Brom and Middlesbrough over the weekend and has since also been linked with Sheffield United.
However, the £17m fine will be paid over a period of 10 years, will not be included as outgoings when calculating QPR’s future FFP limit, and is more than manageable for the club’s Malaysian owners.
Rangers manager McClaren has therefore been told he would not be under any pressure to sell if any of his players attract interest. So far there has not been an approach for any member of his squad.
“Whatever news came out, it doesn’t change the situation we’re in,” McClaren said.
“It doesn’t change our plans in terms of we don’t have to sell players we don’t want to sell. We don’t have to do that.
“The owners are still right behind this football club – right behind taking it forward, despite the hurdles which people have put in front. They want to progress.”
Meanwhile, McClaren has confirmed that QPR defender Grant Hall is set to return to action this week.

The interesting bit hidden away in McClaren's comment is the:
we don’t have to sell players we don’t want to sell.
Implies that there may be some we still want to sell. The fact that he says there have been no approaches for anyone in the squad would therefore mean that we are struggling to move out some - maybe Washington???.
Re the timing of the FFP announcement I would think everyone just wanted to get it over before the start of the season. While some clubs may think we have to sell because of the fine, and will try some cheeky offers, I think McClaren's comments clarify the situation.
I hope and expect that if any club does come in with an offer for any of our better players we will hold out firmly, hopefully not sell, but at least get a good price if we do sell. These days with player and agent power we may not be able to say no to some approaches if the player sees it as a good move and by saying no means we end up with a disgruntled and uncommitted player who then runs down his contract.
We have to accept the fact that we are back to being a "selling" club but that's no reason why we should give players away on the cheap - depending on their remaining length of contract of course.
