The downside of good loan signings and a good squad - Just thinking ahead but if for example Amos and Smith turn on the style, Hugill keeps scoring, our chances of retaining or buying them lessen as time goes by and other clubs come sniffing with better offers. Then we have the likes of Eze and Chair already rumoured to be on PL club radars . Putting the squad together will rate as being easy when compared to keeping the squad tother come January or the summer. That's why it was so Important to have cover for all positions in case we lose one or two - hopefully for big profits if our young players go

He's going to be a real handful for defences at this level and he is going to get service in this team. At this stage he is a West Ham player, but I can't see him breaking into their first team anytime soon. He was bought by Moyes and so isn't likely to be in Pellegrini's long term plans. I don't expect PL clubs to come for our kids in January although we may have to deal with interest for Eze next summer. It's a bridge we'll have to cross when and if we get to it.

OTEH has gone out on loan to Bradford Good move for all concerned - he was way down teh pecking order with us so if he can have a good season of regular football he may come back as someone who can fit in if Hugill Wells Mklar Eze or others leave. On teh other hand if he cannot cut it at Bradford we know he should not be in our plans and he can move on or stay with Bradford.

Not a position that really needs strengthening but I’m of the thought ,that if the right players become available like this guy on a free then go for it . I am with you on that. More competition for places should lead to better players which leads to better performances, which leads to higher player values, which leads to a more sustainable club. Cant hurt looking

I suspect that this is our weakest postion!
However, to sign another goalkeeper in January would indicate to me that the club feel we could be promoted this season, which is something I share!
If that is the case, it would make it doubtful that we would sell Eze, Chair etc in the January window.

If he’s a free agent we wouldn’t have to wait until January we can sign him any time.
22 caps at international level is a decent pedigree but if he’s any good why is he still without a club at the end of September?

Dave Mac says Warburton isn’t interested in signing him.

Honestly, some people need to get off Lumley's back. He's being asked to play in a role that is far riskier than historically in terms of distribution & he's doing ok. I think his distribution is improving, he's vocal & his size is underestimated as an asset at corners/freekicks.

Funny yesterday I thought both goals were poor but then I watched Lloris/Pickford on MOTD day and I calmed down

I don’t blame Lumley for the second goal but the first one was weak. Although why the defence stood off for so long beats me and the wall splitting, jumping very poor.

Lumley made some good saves. The first goal I blame on nobody closing down Ferguson who was in my opinion their best player by a mile. Also I was happy with Lumley reverting to Plan B when the passing to one of our defenders Plan A wasn't working because of their pressure game and kicked long which was IMO a better plan.

Wells ‘wouldn’t hesitate one bit’ to make permanent QPR move By Julian Taylor 06/10/2019
Nahki Wells says he “wouldn’t hesitate” if given the chance to join QPR on a permanent basis.
Wells has scored seven goals since returning to Rangers on another season-long from Burnley, where his contract expires next summer. And he told West London Sport he would be open to a move if the two clubs could come to an agreement during the January transfer window.
“That’s all stuff that’s beyond any of my decision-making of course,” he said.
“But I think the club, the fans, the board – everyone knows what my decision would be. I love it here, it feels like home to me.
“Of course football is a business and there’s a lot more that goes into it than just me saying I’d like to stay here. But if it was possible I wouldn’t hesitate one bit.”

NOT QPR, although at one stage I thought we were after him. Gary Hooper has signed a 1 year deal with the Wellington Phoenix. A recent move to Iran fell through at the last minute. He will be wearing the number 88 Jersey.

QPR are weighing up a £1.5million bid for Hearts kid Aaron Hickey in January. The English Championship side are the latest club to register an interest in the Jambos’ 17-year-old full-back. Loftus Road scouts will be at Tynecastle today to see Hickey in action for Hearts against Rangers. It will be the fourth time they have been ordered north by former Rangers boss Mark Warburton , who is now in charge of the London club. Hickey has hugely impressed the scouts and, given the teenager’s huge potential, Warburton sees the move as a sound investment. The defender burst on to the scene when he became the youngest player ever to start a Scottish Cup Final, against Celtic at Hampden last season. And he became a hero with Gorgie fans when he scored a dramatic late winner against Hibs at Easter Road last month. But Hickey is out of contract in summer 2021 and has yet to sign a new long-term deal. Tynecastle manager Craig Levein remains confident of striking an agreement with Hickey’s father – who also acts as his agent – as he looks to protect his main asset. Levein has been quoted as saying he is taking the latest Hickey transfer speculation with “a lump of salt”. But if the player hasn’t committed to the club by January, QPR will make their move – hoping that a £1.5m offer will tempt Hearts to cut their losses and sell up. Hickey is attracting interest from across the UK and has been linked with both Manchester City and Rangers. City already have ties with the capital club, having loaned Ryotaro Meshino to Hearts. Meanwhile, Rangers’ new sporting director Ross Wilson had taken an interest in the kid while at Southampton. But on Friday Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard distanced himself from any potential move. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aaron-hickey-qpr-transfer-target-20656749

Lots of reports linking Wells with a £6m move to Birmingham in January. However, all the reports flow from the origin report in The Sun. Seems strange on the face of it because Burnley do not have a January recall clause and previous reports have stated that Wells is out of contract next Summer. I can understand Burnley wanting to sell Wells in January in order to save their contribution to his wages and to extract a fee, but for any Championship club to pay £6m for a player they can sign for free in June seems crazy (FFP). But of course, Birmingham have a history of crazy - especially with the curse of 'Arry. Slightly, more worrying is that reports now say that Burnley have an option to extend his contract for another year. But again, why would Burnley want to continue paying his expensive salary for another year just to extract a fee / loan. So, this is probably Burnley trying to stimulate a market value for a player who is currently scoring goals. We may be pressurized into making a bid for Wells, but I would hope it is a modest one and that wages can be negotiated. There has to be a risk that we could lose Wells though.

Various papers reporting on Eze going, most talking about his potential move to Spurs being called off because of the sacking of Poch:
Apparently Leicester, West Ham and Chelsea also looking at him.

20 million rated but who would pay that now - maybe half now and half in add ons. But if someone gave us 20 million upfront I would say take it - you can do a bit with 20 million to strengthen the team despite the loss of Eze. As for Eze would he play in the PL or be a bench warmer for a season or 2 - interesting decision for him and the club, if its not all click bait. What we can do without is clickbait unsettling Eze.

If it’s £20 million plus a sell on clause we would have to accept it.

If it’s £20 million plus a sell on clause we would have to accept it. Definitely. I'd imagine that if a bigger club did come in and they weren't sure he was quite there yet, wouldnt be surprised if we was then loaned back to us to continue his development.

If it’s £20 million plus a sell on clause we would have to accept it. Accept it? More like snatch their hand off........to the elbow! But that's the problem with articles like these, they raise expectations. If he goes for say £6m (which is more realistic), fans will start having a go at the club for selling him off too cheap!

At least he has an England U21 cap now, got to add a premium. And there's no denying he has a HUGE amount of talent. Mind you, he may want to stay - look at what's happened to Luke Freeman. Only 2 starts for Sheffield United (and around 5 substitute appearances) - he's got to be disappointed with that... Would be great to keep him for another year and then sell him for £30m...

All this talk of Luke Wolfenden of Ipswich, why the hell would he want to come to us? Unless he is stark raving mad.
