Warburton was on The Debate (sky) last night. Gave the usual good account of himself. Strange to invite him on to talk about Prem transfer dealings though. He said that we could have one or two joining today. He was teased for checking his phone during the commercial break.

Apparently we made another bid for MCKENNA yesterday but not sure if it was enough still ? Probably not as he travelled to Europe match. According to WLS the Aberdeen manager is mouthing off about the bad behaviour of Forest QPR and others for trying to buy McKenna. Says they have a big game in the Europa league today (joke!) and it is disrespectful for clubs to be trying to sign his players so close to the window closing. If it"s that big a game he would be better off talking about the game. Well I thought the window was there to put deadlines around when players could transfer - cannot recall seeing anything that deals have to be complete two weeks before the window closes and why did McKenna put in a transfer request?. Anyway lets hope McKenna scores an own goal and gets sent off tonight and wait for what the big mouth will say next.

QPR plot late hijack of Birmingham move for PL striker Sources: Date: 8th August 2019 at 8:40am Written by: Football Insider EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke Queens Park Rangers are aiming to beat Birmingham City to the signing of Burnley striker Nahki Wells on deadline day, Football Insider understands. Burnley have made Wells available for a move before Thursday’s transfer deadline as he is well down the pecking order at Turf Moor. Football Insider revealed earlier that Birmingham are working on a deal to bring the striker to the Midlands and have held talks over a deal. However, a source close to QPR, where Wells spent last season on loan, has told Football Insider that the club has made a late move to hijack that move and bring the Bermuda international back to Loftus Road. The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, where he scored seven goals as he helped them secure Championship survival. QPR are hoping the fact that Wells spent last season on loan at the club will give them the advantage over Birmingham in the race for his signature. Wells signed for Burnley from Huddersfield for a fee close to £5million in the summer of 2017 but he’s only made 10 appearances for them and hasn’t scored a goal. www.footballinsider247.com/sources-qpr-plot-late-hijack-of-birmingham-move-for-pl-striker/

QPR give up on McKenna and eye striker deal, with Wells a possible option
By David McIntyre 08/08/2019
QPR have ended their pursuit of Scott McKenna and are looking to bring in a striker, with Nahki Wells among the possible options.
The R’s have been unable to agree a fee with Aberdeen for centre-back McKenna and are reluctant to spend on another defender during the final stages of the transfer window. They are, however, exploring the possibility of bringing in another forward by the 5pm deadline.
On Thursday morning a number of potential deals were being discussed, including a possible return for Wells from Burnley.
Wells spent last season on loan at QPR and has indicated he would like to return, although several other clubs are interested.
Rangers are among many Championship sides to have spent the summer hoping to land Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah, who is being tipped to join Leeds.
Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are set to complete the signing of Massimo Luongo.

I think we were a better team when you were in the side. I also think it was the right time for you to leave.

Wells as another option up front to compete with or even play with Hugill makes sense to me. If Hugill picks up a bad injury next week we are exposed. Selling Luongo must give us enough cash to do a loan deal for Wells.
McKenna was a waste of our time and I assume we will keep Leistner as cover now. Plus with the young lad from Liverpool on board and some versatile players liker Cameron we have enough cover in defence but are still one short up front imo.
Charlie is on his way out of Southampton - I gave it a brief thought but he really has struggled with injury, is probably out of our price range and the old adage of 'never go back' - Wells on loan for me and that's a good window done.

This story, if you believe it, suggests Mass went for £1m. www.thestar.co.uk/sport/dom-howsons-sheffield-wednesday-column-why-it-was-crucial-the-owls-signed-queens-park-rangers-midfielder-massimo-luongo-489065Dom Howson's Sheffield Wednesday column: Why it was crucial the Owls signed Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo Only time will tell if Wednesday are a team capable of challenging in the upper echelons of the Championship this season. By Dom Howson Wednesday, 07 August, 2019, 12:47 But the Owls showed bags of character, grit and determination to grind out a positive result against Reading on the opening-day. Wednesday dug deep after going down to 10 men at the Madejski Stadium on the opening-day to pick up a morale-boosting three points following a turbulent summer off-the-field. The balance of the side looked good, especially in midfield. Sam Hutchinson, Barry Bannan and Kieran Lee worked well together. Hutchinson celebrated his 30th birthday in style with a goal and an assist, Bannan pulled the strings from deep and Lee pushed forward at every available opportunity to support Steven Fletcher in attack. Owls new boy Massimo Luongo (Photo by Jack Thomas/Getty Images) Owls new boy Massimo Luongo (Photo by Jack Thomas/Getty Images) "It was like the old days," beamed Hutchinson. Given Wednesday under caretaker manager Lee Bullen's guidance are playing three in midfield, it was pivotal the Owls brought a new face in that department before Thursday's deadline. Both Hutchinson and Lee are proven performers at this level and bring plenty of energy and dynamism to the side but the pair are in their 30s and have had their injury problems in recent years. It is unrealistic to think both Hutchinson and Lee will play every week. So bringing in Massimo Luongo from Queens Park Rangers looks a sensible piece of business for a number of reasons. His arrival increases competition for places and will keep the likes of Hutchinson and Lee on their toes. Yes, Luongo initially may have to bide his time and wait for a chance to shine but the Australian international’s combative style of play should suit Wednesday. "I believe he’s a lot more effective in a deeper role," said Phil Spencer, sometime QPR writer for football.london. "His physical strength and ability to compete and break out of midfield is what makes him stand out, and while he can do a job going into the final third I don’t think he’s technically good enough to be a constant threat in an advanced role." Another great thing about Luongo is that he rarely gets injured. He made almost 150 appearances in his four-year stint at Loftus Road. The deal for Luongo is very good too from a financial perspective. I understand the Owls have paid around £1m to bring Luongo to Hillsborough. Luongo's contract was due to run out at QPR next summer so Wednesday have signed him for a cut-price fee. Now the Owls will be hoping that Luongo boosts their top-six aspirations.

Welcome back Nahki, I hope all goes well.
Apart from the signing of Barnes, this is the only incoming that I query as we have three strikers on loan with a good chance that only one will start a game.
I accept that this relegates Oteh to a more realistic fourth in line to play, but it undermines the loan signing of The Man from Brighton. Yes, I know it's bad, but his name escapes me at present!
Of course, there is still a chance that Oteh will go on loan to a Divsion one or two club.

At times last season Smith , Wells and Hemed all played at some point though Terry so I don’t see it as a bad thing. Specially if we had one that was out long term. Sure all three have a part to play, competition for places is good.
