The 24-year-old, who joined QPR’s EDS ranks in 2016 following a successful trial period, enjoyed a 16-game spell at League Two Stevenage during the first half of the 2018/19 campaign. Dieng headed north of the border this morning (Thursday) to undergo a medical and complete the temporary switch – and will now be hoping to help haul Dundee off the bottom of the league table. Good luck, Seny!

From WLS www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-qpr-fc-crystal-palace-eze-facts-080119Transfer gossip: Palace linked with EzeBy West London Sport 08/01/2019 It’s claimed that Crystal Palace are lining up a move for QPR forward Ebere Eze. HITC is among a number of websites to have picked up on the Daily Star suggesting that Palace could target a deal for Eze during this month’s transfer window. Eze, it is claimed, is being chased by Palace after the collapse of their proposed loan signing of former striker Chelsea Dominic Solanke, who was subsequently bought from Liverpool by Bournemouth. Eze, who signed a three-year contract at Loftus Road in August, has caught the eye for Rangers in the Championship this season, increasing speculation that he could be snapped up by another club. Is there anything in it?West London Sport revealed last season that Palace and Brighton were monitoring Eze, who had impressed while on loan at Wycombe before also doing well when given a chance in the QPR side. Eagles sporting director Dougie Freedman and Brighton scout Ian Pearce were at Loftus Road to see Rangers beat Norwich 4-1 last April. They were there primarily to watch James Maddison, who later left Norwich for Leicester, but were also keen to take a look at Eze, having heard good things about QPR’s young forward. Based on that West London Sport story, Eze has subsequently been linked with Palace on several occasions. However, while he is among a host of players Palace have continued to monitor, there has no far been no indication at all that they are looking to sign him.

I believe this fella is a right back, we don't need a right back. Looking ahead, perhaps Lynch will not be re-signed in the summer, Furlong moved in to the centre, Rangel let go and then, and only then, this would make some sort of sense as long as long as his wages are sensible.

From WLS www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-matt-smith-millwall-210119Millwall interested in QPR striker SmithBy David McIntyre 22/01/2019 Millwall are interested in taking Matt Smith on loan from QPR. The target man, signed from Fulham two years ago, had a key role under former manager Ian Holloway and scored 11 goals for the R’s last season. But he has been a bit part player since Holloway was replaced by Steve McClaren, who has tended to use Smith as a substitute. Millwall could potentially offer him first-team football but his wages might well prove to be a stumbling block to a deal. The Lions made an enquiry about Smith after striker Tom Elliott was ruled out for around six weeks with a shoulder injury. Smith recently admitted being frustrated at his lack of game time. “It’s been a very frustrating spell personally. I try just to give my all to the side when I get given the opportunity,” said Smith, whose QPR contract runs until 2020. “I’ve had to be selfless. It’s maybe not going the way I’d like personally, but no-one’s bigger than the team. “I’ll give my all whatever role the manager gives me, whether that’s coming on for 10 minutes at centre-half to shore up a 1-0 or chasing a lead or coming on in stoppage time – which I’ve done quite a few times. “It’s different, and largely frustrating, but at the end of the day I’ll do my all for the lads. “I’m here to start games and try to contribute. It’s been frustrating because I’m used to contributing. “Last season I felt I contributed quite a lot whereas this season it’s been frustrating from that angle. “You want to be turning in performances that are ultimately going to help the team.” Smith, 29, dropped down the pecking order after the loan signings of Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed in August. He scored in the 4-1 defeat at home to Preston on Saturday after coming on to play alongside Wells up front. It is a combination Smith believes has potential, but he accepts the team’s largely encouraging campaign under McClaren has made it difficult for him to get a look in. “That’s a partnership that, on paper, should work well but hasn’t maybe been given enough time to blossom because the forwards have been doing very well,” he said. “Credit to the lads, particularly the forward lads, they’ve been in good form for the majority of the season so it’s been difficult to break in.” And Smith is well aware the main reason he has not been a first-choice player under McClaren is the manager’s preferred style of play – a passing game that Smith is simply not suited to. Smith acknowledged: “Certainly the type of player that I am is conducive to ways of playing and largely the team has been quite a counter-attacking team which maybe isn’t suited to my strengths. “I don’t need anybody to tell me what my strengths and weaknesses are. I’m well aware of what they are. “So it’s maybe not been set up for me to excel. But at the same time I am where I am and I want to help the team as much as I can.

Several loan deals seem imminent according to West London Sport. I can't see both Smith and Oteh going out on loan as that would leave us very exposed up front. www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-paul-smyth-charlton-loan-230119Charlton are hoping to complete a deal to sign Paul Smyth on loan from QPR. Smyth, 21, was poised to join the Addicks last Thursday evening but Rangers stalled amid interest from a string of other clubs. The Northern Ireland forward has been overlooked by boss Steve McClaren this season. Prior to his appearance as a substitute during Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Preston, Smyth had not featured in the league since McClaren took him off at half-time against Sheffield United in August. But the Rangers hierarchy regard him as an important long-term investment – and choosing the right loan move for him to be vital for his development. With so many clubs keen to take the player on loan, the club have therefore taken time to consider the options and will hold talks with his agent before a final decision is made. That decision is likely to come before the weekend, meaning Smyth would not play in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Portsmouth – a match he might otherwise have been expected to feature in. Smyth recently signed a new one-year deal at Loftus Road, where he is now under contract until 2021. He has long been lined up for a loan move during this month’s transfer window, as has Sean Goss and youngsters such as Ilias Chair, Osman Kakay, Niko Hamalainen and Giles Phillips. Rangers would also consider a loan deal for young forward Aramide Oteh if a useful move for him presents itself. Meanwhile, Millwall are interested in signing Matt Smith on loan from QPR but the striker’s wages could be a stumbling block. Smith has admitted being frustrated by his lack of game time under McClaren.

If Hemed's injury problem is fixed and he is close to a return letting Smith go is an obvious - although reports say his wages may be a problem for someone like Millwall. Even without Hemed I would argue it would be best for player and the club(financially) if Smith went out on loan as he clearly does not fit into our current preferred style of play.
Oteh is a difficult one. With Hemed fit he will be no 3 in the pecking order at best, so may benefit more with some good game time out on loan rather than bit parts as a sub. On the other hand I would have liked to think that if we get another 3 or 4 wins under our belt quickly we would see the likes of Oteh getting a run in the team looking ahead to next season. If we let him go on loan as well as Smith and Smyth we would be taking a risk so I would hope we would have an instant recall option on at least Oteh.
Biggest worry is that the recent release of younger players and these potential loans may indicate that we are up against FFP more than thought. A good money spinning cup run could help but I'm not hoping until I see what team we put out at Pompey.

A good money spinning cup run could help but I'm not hoping until I see what team we put out at Pompey. I suspect that we are constantly as close to the FFP limit as we can be which would mean that next season not only do need to reduce expenditure by £16.6 million due to losing our parachute payments, but a further £5 million due to the rolling nature of FFP. The likes of Smyth and Oteh getting matches under their belt is vital as we are going to need them one way or another next season.

It is interesting to read that Matt Smith's wages could be a problem for a Millwall loan. You would not think that he is one of our highest earners but presumably we would accept an offer for him in this or the next window. We have 8 senior players approaching the end of their contracts (June) - Bidwell, Hall, Lynch, Baptiste, Cameron, Hamed, Wells & Cousins. I doubt we can afford to keep any of them on their current wages. We also have Wszolek with a one year option that we have not exercised as yet. Wszolek has said that he hopes that a new contract can be concluded. They are all free to discuss terms with other clubs now. But again it is all about timing. While the window remains open, presumably., we remain hopeful that some bids could come in for some of the above - especially if we cannot afford to keep them all next year. But at what point do we show our hand and show just what we are prepared to pay them going forward. As long as they remain hopeful of a decent renewal then they remain motivated. I guess the youngsters signing contract extensions have been sold the message that next season they are going to be needed - and they probably will. A concern has to be the striker situation. If we cannot keep Wells and Hamed, Sylla and Washington already departed and Smith being offered out on loan, the cupboard is looking pretty empty for next season. Oteh is promising but unproven. Meanwhile, Charlie Austin has been told he can leave Southampton this window. Not the player he was, but still out of our league now. Just one other thought.........I hope that Eze's unspecified injury yesterday was nothing to do with Thursday's closing window.

The Poland international’s current deal is due to expire this summer, meaning he is now free to hold talks with other clubs. But Wszolek said he has no plans to do so – and suggested he is happy at Loftus Road having regained his place under Rangers boss Steve McClaren. In the interview, Wszolek described McClaren as the best manager he has played under and admitted he was frustrated under former boss Ian Holloway. And he said: “If I continue to play well, the club will definitely offer me a new contract. I am not afraid of what will happen to me. “I have something to gain here. I feel stable and this is the most important thing. “Any talks about the contract will probably start in February or at the beginning of March.”

The Bristol City Away Game has been moved to Tuesday 12th February (was the following day). That is because the Watford Cup Match will be televised by BT Sport and that will be on Friday 15th February - of course first we have to beat Portsmouth next Tuesday. I hate Friday games though. On the loan market, we have put 8 out on loan: Wheeler to MK Dons Smyth to Accrington Dieng to Dundee Alph to Atletia Baleares Oteh to Walsall Owens to Wycombe Chair to Stevenage Goss to St.Johnstone Good experience for them, just hope that we do not need them. Seems Kakay may also be going to Port Vale or Newport and Baptiste to Luton. Still over 4 hours of the window to go, so could be even more.

So we sent out a whole team on loan - 11 in total. Would have been 12 if the Kakay deal had not collapsed. First time we have ever done anything on this scale. Does that mean that our youngsters (excluding Baptiste) are more attractive to other clubs now, or are we in trouble with FFP? I think it is a positive step though. Hope they get plenty of game time. Well done to Sir Les for getting all that organised. We may have some tricky selection issues if we have a run of injuries though. But Shteve is hardly the squad rotator that 'Ollie was.... From the Offie. McClaren explains why so many loans www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/mcclaren-wants-his-loan-rangers-to-develop/McClaren wants his Loan Rangers to developDavid Scriven @dmscriven STEVE McClaren is looking forward to seeing his ‘Loan Rangers’ develop during the second half of the season. QPR boss McClaren allowed seven players under the age of 23 to make loan moves during the January transfer window. Ody Alfa, Ilias Chair, Seny Dieng, Sean Goss, Aramide Oteh, Charlie Owens and Paul Smyth all made moves to Football League or Scottish Premier sides over the past month. The loans get them to experience to come back better and stronger.STEVE MCCLARENAnd the R’s chief will be keeping an eye on their development ahead of next season. “One of the remits, when we came through the door, was to develop the younger players,” McClaren told www.qpr.co.uk. “At a certain stage after development on the training field they need to play games and with the team quite settled they weren’t getting chances. “So I’m delighted with the work behind the scenes that Les (Ferdinand) has been doing in terms of getting the young players moves. “We felt that the development from the first half of the season was good, working with us, training with us and working with senior players. “It’s been good for me to get a good look at them and also in install what we want and expect from them, not just on game day but in training Monday to Friday. I think we’ve done that and now is a good time to give these young players experience in the Football League for the next four or five months.” With clubs like Wycombe Wanderers, Walsall, Accrington Stanley and Stevenage among some of the sides the Hoops youngsters will be turning out for, McClaren is hopeful QPR can reap the benefits of that next season. “Under-23 football can only take you a certain way but then you have to play in a men's league,” he said.
“They are going to get an opportunity to do that now which is part of their development. Very rarely do players go straight from the training ground into a first team unless they are a huge talent. The loans get them to experience to come back better and stronger.
“Then the recruitment in the summer becomes important to build a team around the young players that have hopefully been doing well.”

WLS's Dave Mac's take on our January transfer window action/lack of action. www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-qpr-transfers-summer-010219Quiet January but another QPR transfer frenzy is approachingBy David McIntyre 01/02/2019 It was a definite case of the calm before the storm. QPR’s quiet January – quiet mostly because of the transfer embargo imposed as part of the club’s Financial Fair Play settlement – was in stark contrast to the pandemonium of previous windows. But it was not necessarily a sign of things to come. With the contracts of several players due to expire, and with this season’s relative success having been built largely on loan signings, normal service is likely to be resumed this summer. There will be yet another overhaul of the squad – another transfer window even more vital than the previous absolutely vital ones. Still gripped by the stone-cold realities of FFP restrictions, Rangers will nevertheless be busy again. In the meantime, the January window can be seen as a success. Job doneAs early as November, QPR earmarked a number of players for loan moves. They were: Paul Smyth, Sean Goss, Ilias Chair, Osman Kakay, Niko Hamalainen, Charlie Owens and Giles Phillips. It was later decided that Aramide Oteh would leave on loan too. The striker subsequently joined Walsall. Some fans on social media have expressed misgivings about the number of players leaving, fearing Rangers could be left short. The reason QPR were so keen to get them out on loan is simple: they might be needed next season. With the likes of Tomer Hemed, Geoff Cameron and Angel Rangel on the way back, the threat of an unlikely injury crisis was less of a consideration than the ramifications of throwing youngsters into the side next season without a run of games under their belts. That really could prove disastrous. Plus, if those young players perform well on loan – as Ebere Eze did at Wycombe – it would provide food for thought for manager Steve McClaren and perhaps enable Rangers, hampered at all times by FFP, to bring in one less player this summer. On that basis, QPR can feel pleased. There will be disappointment a loan move could not be arranged for Kakay – last-minute efforts to agree a deal with either Port Vale or Newport County were in vain. His options are now being assessed, while Hamalainen and Phillips are set for loan moves back to their native United States, where the transfer window opens later this month. Perhaps Kakay might even join them. Risky moveOf all the outgoing loans, Alex Baptiste’s looks the riskiest. Not among the fringe players lined up for a departure, Baptiste was allowed to move to Luton after the League One club made an approach. The experienced and versatile defender appears to have played his last game for Rangers, where his contract expires this summer. The decision to let him go hinged on optimism over the fitness of Grant Hall. Darnell Furlong has also shown he can operate well as a back-up central defender. Baptiste would have been a proven and steady option in the event of injuries to other players, though. Eze does itIn a transfer window all about QPR moving fringe players out on loan, as well finally offloading Idrissa Sylla, there was virtually no interest in any of the first-team squad. Despite claims that top clubs could target Eze and speculation that Middlesbrough could go back in for Luke Freeman, having had offers for him rejected in the summer, there was never a realistic chance of either happening. Freeman recently signed a new contract and, despite the buzz surrounding Eze, Crystal Palace and Brighton keeping a vague eye on him is as strong as the Premier League interest has been. In any case, clubs were aware that Rangers were under a transfer embargo and unlikely to be interested in selling while being unable to buy – despite the theoretical possibility that they could do so under the terms of the embargo were a player to leave. In reality, the financial restrictions, including not being permitted to pay agents’ fees, meant a signing would have been almost unthinkable even in the event of a player sale. The only morsel of interest was in Matt Smith. Millwall made an approach for the striker, but his wages meant a move was a non-starter
