Not too bad, don't like the bloke but he's a good option at LB for this level

Lets us get Yun & Robinson fit without a long term commitment to another left back

I'd argue that staying a year at QPR is pretty much a "long term commitment!"

A 34-year-old loanee? Seems antithetical to the transfer philosophy Ramsey/Ferdinand/Fernandes were publicly pushing. A Redknapp-esque addition really

With same basic reasoning, I probably would have kept Dunne for another year as well

Hasn't Dunne retired from football?

It was in an Irish paper that Dunne had retired but I think then IJT came out and said he had spoken to Richard and it wasn't true

The former Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa defender was among six players shown the door by the Hoops earlier this week following their relegation from the Premier League. Dunne's former team-mate Rio Ferdinand announced his retirement on Saturday and the ex-Everton centre-back was reportedly set to bring the curtain down on his 18-year career to spend more time with his family. However, the former Republic of Ireland international, 35, plans to continue playing on for at least another season. Dunne has been linked with a move to India, USA and a return to Ireland. The Dubliner has made more than 600 club appearances after making his debut for the Toffees back in 1997.

A 34-year-old loanee? Seems antithetical to the transfer philosophy Ramsey/Ferdinand/Fernandes were publicly pushing. A Redknapp-esque addition really I can see how you come to that view but have to disagree on 2 grounds. 1. We have 3 youngish left backs (if we can count Traore) and none are fit - all with knee injuries that could take months to clear up. Buying another player to fill the gap would not make sense while taking a loanee covers the injury situation without long term commitment or transfer fees and does not block the longer term development of the younger players when they get fit. 2. He is very fit and very experienced at Premier and Championship level - his age does not mean anything for a one year loan but his experience does. We cannot throw a whole team of young inexperienced players in at the deep end in the Championship - they would get murdered.
This is a solid and sensible deal in my opinion.
If the defence on Saturday lines up as Green Perch Onouha Hill Konchesky we will be in a lot better state defensively than I expected about 10 days ago. If we could add Ream from Bolton instead of Hill I think we would have one of the better defences in the league which again is something I would not have dreamt of saying a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah agree with the bulk of that. If it was a Redknapp-esque signing, he'd have been on a three deal with no release clause. Proven at this level, only a year commitment and adds a bit of low-risk experience into the mix of what is a relatively young defence.

Now shopping in the bargain basement , might do ok , would've liked to have seen us get Connolly back as central defender whoever he plays or doesn't play for !

I am not really sure why people don't like this move, especially with Yun and Robinson injured. He is a very good player at this level and was a very important part of getting Leicester promoted. Also, as you said, you can't go all out youth even in the Championship. League One, sure, but unless we want our team to play in League One, we need some experience. As far as people saying this is a Redknapp move, maybe, but most of the moves this off-season have not been even close.

Might be seen that it dents the confidence in the dressing room having a player coming in out of the blue and going straight into the side without training.

Might be seen that it dents the confidence in the dressing room having a player coming in out of the blue and going straight into the side without training. Well that gave me a laugh. According to that theory we should have stop bringing in new players 2 weeks ago and not sign anyone again until after the season ends.
On the contrary I think the players will gain confidence knowing they have a new team member to fill a position in the defence where our 3 recognised players are all injured. If any player sees it as anything else I would say they are unprofessional and definitely not a "team player". The only one that may be disappointed is the young guy that has played a couple of friendlies at left back if he had hoped to fill the gap.
I hear ya Bud, it would have an effect if he went straight into the side as nearly all the other players over the summer have been training to start. Left back - Traore (basketcase) is most likely one of the fastest players at the club but needs confidence just wish he could get it right and make the position his but I'm sure koncheskos addition would affect his confidence! Then recent reports doesn't help the confidence of young Furlong when Diakite publicly staking his claim his right back. I'm all a competitive team spirit but suppose 6-8 games will show how well Ramsey has a handle of the player / teams overall confidence levels.

Don't know what all the fuss is about. We need depth in the squad which Konchesky brings. He is not over the hill just yet, whenever i have seen him play he always gives it his all. And he is not going to be facing premier league wingers, so think he will be a good addition.
And Cant also see Furlong getting the hump about Diakite saying he can play right back if needed. If Hill said he will play in goal then I could see Green getting the hump about that, but not Furlong.

Sadly FloridaR , been saying it for weeks, leaving this defence in the state it was very poor. We needed defenders in early, a clown could tell you that. Getting defenders in a panic, a week before the season started after our defence last year was shambolic and the couldnt even be played in friendlies . Very poor from the Club and Les. Defenders need time to play as a unit. I see use leaking goals on a regular basis for weeks to come.

Poor planning and a coaching oversight assuming a players experience would cover for lack of practice, same can be said for Perch's introduction.

New players arrive at clubs and go straight into the starting line up all the time. A natural left back st7arting when the other left backs are injured is hardly unusual.

The way I see it is Les and the staff probably expected Austin to be gone by the start of July, so they looked at getting the attacking players first.
They like the rest of us, probably expected then to see Fer,Phillips and Caulker, off the wage bill as well, But with only Caulker gone they are now hindered by a large wage bill, with not much room for defenders, Hence Loan signing of Konchesky.
Don't see it as a lack of planning, more that there is not anyone buying our big earners. No buyers, no buying. Hardly blame them for that, I have read and heard Ramsey saying defence is the priority, But with no cash its a bit hard to buy players.
Unless we go back to the freestyle spending that got us in this mess in the first place.
