I think this is exactly the right moment to raise the issue over looking after our ex players.
It will be 40 years since our best ever team entertained supporters and achieved our highest ever position in the league. I hope the club will recognise this during the season with a suitable celebration.
Let's celebrate their success but also realise that these players were not as fortunate as our more recent players, financially, and give something back to them. Stan is not the only player from that era to have been struck with illness and I hope the club can try to help these players.
I hope the club have someone who can ring up the Bowles family and see how the club can help before it is too late. And let's celebrate Stanley's delightful career - so many iconic photos and goals - the last programme from the season just gone is a case in example - vs Newcastle - I am sure the article/photos of Stanley cheered us all up on the way home - what a shame he does not get a payment for each time he is mentioned - he would be a very rich man (if he stayed away from the bookies!)

From the Offie STAN'S FAMILY THANK QPR FANS FOR ‘OVERWHELMING SUPPORT’PUBLISHED 13:52 22nd June 2015 by @qprfc Stan Bowles' family express gratitude to QPR faithful following news the R’s legend has been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer's ... Stan Bowles' family 'blown away' by support from QPR fans R's legend Bowles has been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer's Club working with Bowles' family to discuss how best to help STAN Bowles' family have expressed their gratitude to the QPR faithful for the ‘overwhelming support’ they’ve received over the last 48 hours. The Bowles family released a statement via Stan’s Facebook page on Saturday, confirming that the R’s legend has been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer's. Bowles, 66, has developed the illness over the last 12 months and is currently in a stable condition at home in Manchester. QPR LEGEND: Stan is one of the club's all-time greats The club, QPR in the Community Trust and Stan’s family are now working together to explore a variety of fundraising options to raise awareness of the illness, as well as providing some financial support to the family to assist with Stan’s daily welfare. Tracy Bowles, Stan’s daughter, told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “The outpouring of love and affection for Stan has blown us all away – it's been incredibly overwhelming. “Stan is doing okay at the moment, he’s in the middle stages of the illness, but we felt we had to let the fans know of his plight, as he can be quite forgetful at times and often needs prompting. “The club and its supporters mean the world to him and we are delighted that we are going to work together to raise awareness of this illness. “On Stan’s behalf, I’d like to personally thank everyone for their support so far.” MUCH LOVED: Stan's family have been overwhelmed by the support they have received from R's fans QPR in the Community Trust CEO, Andy Evans, added: “Myself and Ian Taylor (QPR’s Head of Media & Communications) spoke at length with the family this morning and with their consent, we will now look at our options in terms of how we can support Stan. “The family have made it clear that raising awareness of the illness is key and the club and the Trust will explore different avenues to ensure the family get the support they are after.” The club will confirm details of how you can show your support to Stan in the coming days. Flashback to 2008 (Pre-Fernandes, so it's not "a pop" at current owners
Sunday People/Peter Ward - 28 September 2008 - TIGHT Rs BLASTED
QPR legend Stan Bowles has branded the club's billionaire owners skinflints after being sidelined from his hospitality role. "Billionaires? They're tighter than a coat of paint," said Bowles, 59, once voted Loftus Road's greatest ever player. Rangers are owned by Formula One big wheels Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, and Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. Bowles said: "On the last day of last season Iwas asked on the pitch to draw a raffle. Then I was told there was no budget left to pay me. "This season I was asked to unveil the new mascot, which was a man dressed up as a furry aeroplane - I suspect he was on more money than I was. "I was handed £100 which didn't even cover my train fare" He was due to act as a club ambassador again - but says the club have never got back to him.

A great player I am very sorry to hear of is illness and I hope he keeps as well as can be expected also I have just been told Alan Harris is in a care home its very very sad 2 excellent players to play in the same team with Stan was a bargain when Jim Gregory signed him.
I wish both families well at this difficult time.

With regard to Stans article in 2008 about the club being tight there are only a few clubs that look after there players when they are finished playing 'its a shame'I was very fortunate at QPR the supporters were very good to me but not the club after I left I would have loved to have been invited to a game after I left but I have never been asked I know one London club who actually invite ex players to a game put them in a hotel for the weekend just to show they are appreciated not all ex players would take the offer up but at least the offer would be there.
I have not visited the ground since I left,Directors and CEO at most clubs these days forget that supporters which ever game you attend want to discuss games from the fast and us older players love telling the supporters thats how we were when we played and most older players are the same today.
Best Regards

Thank you Mike.
I loved watching you play for us & I think it was your debut in a one all draw with Leicester. A young Gerry Francis on the right balanced with Mike Ferguson on the left.
Also helps that my father was a Blackburn fan & that you had the odd game for the Rovers!
Prior to his death (many years ago now) I used to share a drink with Roy Stephenson. Was he still at Blackburn when you joined them or had he already left to win the Championship with Ipswich?
I will not repeat his feelings towards a certain England international that used Brylcream in his hair & was possibly the best player to have ever graced Ewood Park!

Marsh was before my time and sadly I always regret not ever seeing him play. But Stan to me holds more of an impact to me than the others, then comes Gerry Francis, Thomas and Les. They were all amazing as were many others. You will still be watching some true QPR legends way longer than us . Dont you go changing teams

From the Offie. Nice one www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/qpr-stan-bowles-day-alzheimers-society-rotherham-united-2573757.aspx?QPR TO WEAR SPECIAL CHARITY SHIRTS ON STAN BOWLES DAYStan Bowles Day PUBLISHED 11:30 27th July 2015 by @qprfc Club to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Society when QPR play host to Rotherham United on Saturday 22nd August … Rangers to wear special shirts for Stan Bowles Day QPR host Rotherham United at Loftus Road on Saturday, 22nd August Shirts will carry the Alzheimer’s Society logo QPR will wear special charity shirts when the R’s play host to Rotherham United at Loftus Road on Saturday 22nd August. Earlier this summer, the club confirmed plans to hold a special matchday dedicated to Stan Bowles, who has recently been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer’s. The date coincides with the 40th anniversary of the day Rangers won 5-1 at reigning Division One champions Derby County – and Stan scored a hat-trick! Amongst other planned activities on ‘Stan Bowles Day’, the R’s home shirts will carry the Alzheimer’s Society logo, kindly and generously donated by our official shirt sponsors, AirAsia. Each match-worn shirt will be signed by the respective player, and auctioned off at the 1975/76 Gala Night Event (more details to follow in due course). Stan’s daughter Tracy told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “This is a fantastic gesture from AirAsia and we are extremely grateful to everyone at the club for facilitating this. “The level of support we’ve received from QPR, the Trust, the Rangers fans and the wider footballing community at large has been mind-blowing, but what’s just as important is that everyone understands the condition and everything associated with it. “As a family, we’re all really looking forward to the day – and Stan is too.” QPR’s Head of Media & Communications, Ian Taylor, added: “AirAsia and Tony Fernandes, in particular, were really supportive of this idea when the media team approached them. “We’ve had great support from them and the Alzheimer’s Society, as well as the FA and Football League, in making this happen and I’m sure the supporters will be keen to get their hands on the shirts when they go to auction later this season.” Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer's Society, said: “It’s fantastic that Queens Park Rangers is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society to help people with dementia live well. By holding a ‘Stan Bowles Day’ and putting the Alzheimer’s Society logo on their players’ shirts, the club will make a big difference for Stan and his family and raise awareness about a condition which affects so many people. “In the UK alone 850,000 people are living with dementia and the money raised will be channelled into vital support services for those with the condition and their carers. “It is only in recent years that people have started to talk about dementia so openly. Football clubs are at the heart of their local community and have an important role to play in creating a dementia-friendly society.” Siegtraund Teh Siew Foong, AirAsia Group Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are delighted to donate our QPR shirt sponsorship to the Alzheimer’s Society for this special Stan Bowles Day. “We were saddened to hear the news about one of QPR’s most iconic players, but hopefully this will make a big difference in raising awareness of the condition and in due course, providing Stan and his family with some funds for his on-going care.” Further details regarding the Stan Bowles Day, as well as fundraising opportunities, will be announced in due course.

Do the jersey's have full hoops or this half hoop crap? Who cares if they play in the away kit that day. As long as we raise enough awareness and money to help with Stan's immediate future that is all anyone should care about.

So pleased to see this happening. This disease has been pushed under the carpet for too long. As a carer -my husband was diagnosed 7 years ago- I know how awful this disease is. And it is quite noticeable how many footballers suffer from it ( although that's another issue!) Proud that it's our club taking the a lead in this - and sending my support to the Bowles family. Anything I can do to help, just shout.

Two Charities via QPR - www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/qpr-stan-bowles-alzheimers-alzheimers-society-2609708.aspx QPR OFFICIAL SITE SHOW STAN BOWLES YOUR SUPPOR PUBLISHED 09:30 20th August 2015 GoFundMe account set up to support legendary R's front-man ahead of #StanBowlesDay ... Club confirms two charities for #StanBowlesDay GoFundMe account set up for Stan's on-going Alzheimer's care Alzheimer's Society page also set-up to raise awareness AS the clock ticks down to #StanBowlesDay on Saturday, a GoFundMe page has been set up by Stan Bowles’ family, in conjunction with QPR, to provide Rangers fans – and the footballing public at large – with the chance to show their support for the legendary former R's star, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Since news broke earlier this summer regarding the 66 year-old’s ill-health, the outpouring of affection and support for the popular maverick – who made 315 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 97 goals between 1972 and 1979 – has been quite overwhelming. The Bowles family are encouraging supporters to split their donation between the GoFundMe account – for Stan’s daily welfare and ongoing care – and the Just Giving Alzheimer’s Society page, supporting the UK's leading dementia support and research charity, to help raise awareness of the condition. Tracy Bowles, Stan’s daughter, told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “Raising awareness of Alzheimer’s is so important to the family. “We’ve seen how it can affect a loved one and we want to raise as much money as possible so everyone is fully aware of the condition and the impact it can have.” She added: “QPR is Stanley’s club and the support we’ve had from everyone connected to Rangers and the Trust has been incredible over the last few days. “There are some basic needs that are essential for Stan and the family in terms of his daily welfare – and working with the trust, we can hopefully improve his quality of day-to-day living and future care. “I can’t thank everyone enough for their support so far – it just goes to show what a wonderful club QPR is.” The GoFundMe account has been set-up with the help of the PFA – as the clock ticks down to Stan Bowles Day on Saturday, when Loftus Road plays host to QPR versus Rotherham United in the Sky Bet Championship. There will be various other opportunities to donate throughout the coming days, including bucket collections; a special tribute programme; and various Superstore offers! PFA Chief Executive, Gordon Taylor OBE, said: “We are very pleased to play our part in supporting Stan. Stan is one of the game’s greatest characters and finest players of his generation. Many thanks in advance to all those who contribute to two such worthy causes.” Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at the Alzheimer's Society, told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “I want to extend our sincerest thanks to Queens Park Rangers Football Club, Stan Bowles and his family for supporting Alzheimer’s Society. In the UK alone, 850,000 people are living with dementia and this figure is set to rise to one million by 2021.The money raised will make a huge difference to many of the lives of people with dementia and their carers.” “It is only in recent years that society has started to talk about dementia openly. There's myth. And then there's reality #STANBOWLESDAY - HALF-TIME ACTIVITY WITH A DIFFERENCE! #STANBOWLESDAY - HALF-TIME ACTIVITY WITH A DIFFERENCE! PUBLISHED 15:00 21st August 2015 by @qprfc Take on our special Stan Bowles Day challenge this Saturday ... Half-time challenge at QPR v Rotherham United R's fans given chance to repeat Stan Bowles FA Cup challenge Saturday's match is Stan Bowles Day to celebrate greatest ever player STAN Bowles famously takes credit for kicking a ball, full bloodedly, at the FA Cup trophy and knocking it flying during a fixture versus Sunderland in May 1973 - and R's will be given the chance to try and repeat that feat on #StanBowlesDay. That's right, three QPR fans will be selected at random at Loftus Road on Saturday for a half-time activity with a difference! Forty two years ago, Rangers and Sunderland met in the old Division Two, only four days after Sunderland had won the FA Cup, and the Mackems decided to parade the trophy around their ground, then Roker Park. After the parade, the trophy was placed on a table at the side of the pitch, before Bowles ... well, let's hear it straight from the horse's mouth: "There were a couple of us who had a bet on who could knock it off the table with the ball first," he recalls. "With the ball at my feet I tear off straight across the park. Everyone on the pitch is just staring at me - and then, bang! The FA Cup goes shooting up in the air. "The whole ground knew that I'd done it on purpose - then the Sunderland fans go ape. I wound up their fans even more by scoring a couple of goals and in the end there was a pitch invasion. At least I got my tenner, and my picture on News at Ten. And all because I was just having a bit of a laugh." If you fancy your chances, stay in your seat at half-time to be in with a chance of following in Stan's footsteps. Souvenir programme published in aid of Stan Bowles and Alzheimer’s SocietyBiggest-ever edition of Bees Review produced for Queens Park Rangers home game. Brentford are to produce their largest-ever matchday programme for the game against Queens Park Rangers on Friday 30 October to raise funds and awareness for Stan Bowles and the Alzheimer’s Society. Perfect bound, the Bees Review souvenir edition will run to 104 pages, making it the biggest programme in the Club’s history. Stan, who played for both clubs in an illustrious football career spanning 17 years, winning five England internationals caps, was diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer’s in the summer. Queens Park Rangers recently held ‘Stan Bowles Day’ in honour of the midfielder, and it’s now Brentford’s turn to show its appreciation to the former footballer held in fond affection by both sets of supporters in West London. A percentage of each copy sold will go towards Stan Bowles’ ongoing care needs and the Alzheimer’s Society. Retailing at £4, one pound will be donated equally between the two causes. This has been made possible by kind co-operation from the Club’s programme partners Regal Sports Press. Granted a testimonial by Brentford in 1987 against Queens Park Rangers, Stan signed for Brentford in 1981, making 96 appearances for the Club before retiring in 1984. Stan and his family will be present on the night as the Club pays tribute to one of football’s greatest entertainers. Special features involving Stan and the two clubs are included in the programme, including many photographs and newspaper reports that have not been seen since their original publication. A special programme cover has been designed especially for the match by artist Paine Proffitt. A GoFundMe account has also been set-up with the help of the PFA in order that Stan receives the correct support after his diagnosis. Stan’s daughter, Tracy, said: “Stan and the family are really looking forward to return to Brentford on 30 October, a place and Club that we all hold dear in our hearts. We have been overwhelmed with the support we have received from Brentford and the wider footballing community since the summer. It is important that awareness of Alzheimer’s is raised in wider society and its condition understood.” Brentford FC Chief Executive, Mark Devlin, said: “It says so much about the immense talent Stan had as a footballer and as one of the game’s real characters, when fans from close rivals both feel such warmth towards a player. We are delighted to be able to support and welcome Stan back to Griffin Park for what I’m sure will be an emotional occasion for both him and his family. Hopefully the evening will raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and provide funds for his ongoing care.” Alzheimer’s Society Chief Executive Jeremy Hughes said: “Stan was an inspirational presence on the field for Brentford and Queens Park Rangers and he clearly remains an inspirational figure off the field as well. “It’s really heartening that fans from his former clubs are rallying behind Stan so enthusiastically and money raised for Alzheimer’s Society will help fund vital community services to support people with dementia, their families and carers. “It is only in recent years that society has started to talk openly about dementia. Football clubs like Brentford and Queens Park Rangers are at the heart of their local community and have an important role to play in creating a dementia friendly society.” Alan Corkhill, Regal Sports Press, said: “We all have memories we treasure. Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease that robs us of them. Please support the Alzheimer’s Society and the vital work it is doing. I am fortunate to remember Stan Bowles who played in a legendary time for British football. We at Regal Sports Press are proud to support efforts to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s. You can donate to Stan’s GoFundMe account: www.gofundme.com/StanBowles or make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society via www.alzheimers.org.ukwww.brentfordfc.co.uk/news/article/stan-bowles-programme-alzheimers-society-19.10.15-2750931.aspxExcellent from Brentford and Mark Devlin.
